Quality of steel determines how sharp an edge a knife can hold. Crappy knives not only dull uberfast, their edges can't even be sharpened to something worthwhile because they chip/crack at a microscopic level.

and they are typically much better balanced.

btw, if anyone is interested I ordered 2 sets of my Shuns and intended to give the other set as a gift, but decided not to. I got a silly deal on them and if you're interested Ill sell them to you for my cost, otherwise they get put up on ebay for a tidy profit.

That...is..................want.

Far less disgusting (and 98% fat free) are the Gourmet Dining stir-fry meals, Chicken and Shrimp. I got turned on to these not long ago and they are amazing. About 4 bucks at Wal Mart, 8 minutes to prepare makes really, really good food for the effort/money.

You can make that stuff yourself without that much more effort or $$, FWIW.

...and probably a lot better tasting and better for you... although I understand that's probably gourmet when ramen qualifies as a meal.

when you are eating by yourself, the pouch skillet meals are definately not more expensive than doing it yourself, given the amount of ingredients involved.
they are quick, tasty, and reasonably healthy. probably about the best you can do from the freezer isle.

Yeah, 70% of your sodium for the day is pretty healthy.

Buy some frozen veg, a pound of pasta and with some spices on hand you can do much better for the same or cheaper.

not all of us are overweight with high blood pressure Wink

sounds like we need to have a cook-off. Time vs. Price vs. Taste

Keep eating that shit and you will be. I don't have high blood pressure anymore, thank you very much. Amazing what losing 3 pants sizes will do. Tongue

Bring it on the cook-off. I can make something better for you, much better tasting at the same price point in 20 minutes (time to boil water and cook the pasta).

Its a bit more expensive to DIY (I never said it was cheaper) but its going to be healthier, and you can easily cook enough for leftovers for a few days.

Just to note, on the pasta thing..I have been making my own sauces lately...it's turned out pretty fantastic. One can of diced tomatos, one can of tomato sauce, 1 clove of thinly sliced garlic (which is a pain in the ass to do, so sometimes i use garlic powder), one shalot chopped up, oregano, pepper, etc to taste. Caramelize the onions/garlic in a little bit of EVOO, add in tomatos/sauce/other stuff and let it simmer while you make the rest of the pasta..easy, cheap, and better than canned stuff

chris just turned me on to making my own sauce as well. i love the idea, but i still haven't done it yet Tongue i never have the ingredients/never go to the store.

this is big for me - i love cooking DIY in huge batches...its cheaper in bulk and then i can either freeze (love to bust out some frozen chili i made in december) or just eat off it for a couple days. waking up late and not packing a lunch and just grabbing a tupperware full of leftover baked ziti/steamed veggies/pork chop etc is money.

also one my favorite office snacks is a can of kroger natural almonds. they're cheap, stay fresh, have no additives and keep me full-ish in the morning and after the daily food coma (3-4pm)

Mike Wrote:i never have the ingredients/never go to the store.

We only go to the store every 4-6 weeks. Just buy like 8 cans of tomatoes and 8 pounds of pasta and you've got enough for a month at two days a week. You can throw in whatever protein you have in the freezer and/or olives, clams, etc from the pantry to mix and match. Even if you don't have anything else, you have a basic tomato sauce for weeks on end.

My pantry feels bare if I don't have 10 pounds of pasta, 10 cans of tomatoes, 8 cans of olives and 4 cans of clams in there. Big Grin
