woo hoo!

picked it up from Chan on Friday and drove it quite a bit this weekend. engine is strong, and torque is nice to have for once. the broken gauge cluster is a bit annoying, but I'll get to that eventually. Its really in good shape, no rust, lots of new parts.

I found out what RWD is (lol) with a bit of tank slapping doing a U-turn!

I didn't get to do much work to it since I helped my parents move all weekend, but I've got it in their barn on the new property and ripped out all the trunk sound deadening crap for fun yesterday. I'll get some pics up soon since I got a digital camera and joined the technology age.

well I picked up another busted pile on Saturday. I found an 88 325i convertible that was about 20 mins from my parents house and had been in a minor front end wreck a year ago. It sat for this past year with the top leaking away and filling the interior with water and mildew

My friend Eric and I split the $300 price and it actually started after he charged the battery! The same problem as eric's car kept it from idiling- slit in the intake hose, but I just kept it revved and drove it quickly home and hid it in my parents horse stall.

Sorry I can't get pics up... not on my own computer, but I'll try soon.

The good:

-convertible parts are harder to come by so we can sell a lot of them
-engine is strong and seemed fine when I drove it- we'll keep it for a spare engine!
-had a sony cd player we can sell
-16" aftermarket wheels with kumos- another item to sell
-auto tranny we can sell
-dash is in great shape
-most of the gauges work (except the tach)
-I'm already finding tons of parts I need and they are only a few feet away from my 89!

The bad:

-minor front end damage, apparently the frame was bent so it was considered totaled
- crazy water in the car... smelled like somehting died but we ripped out the entire interior so its gone now
-one front headlight and the bumper are destroyed, but thats about it

guess thats about it... anybody need some parts??

haha I wish I could get pics up to show you this setup I have. One car in the stall, one in the barn, and the whole tack room full of car shit and parts I've ripped out!

- Beej - 01-03-2006

Man, two good friends of mine are into e30's. One has three e30's and two 2002's. The other has three e30's.

Good luck, buddy.

update:

spent almost this entire past weekend under the BMW's. My 89 (we refer to them by model years now- 89, 88, 84) had stripped threads in the oil pan drain hole so I tried putting in an oversize drain bolt. That only cracked the damn pan, ruining the whole thing. Luckily we just bought the parts car so I had a pan sitting near by. What sucked was I had to drop almost the entire front suspension on both cars to get them out and then back in. Took me 11 hrs on Saturday and 7 on Sunday! Good news is it started right up and only costed me the price of a new oil pan gasket and oil.

Next up is the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, AC removal, probably remove the power steering (its leaking) and replacing all the other belts. Then I'll be able to drive it hard and see what else breaks
