I still love mine, we used it to pull a small trailer full of stuff for our yard sale and to move in and out of our crawl space. We put some of the nubby tires on it and have been much happier with the traction. My wife may or may not have scolded me for riding it down the road and back after a few cold brews, just cause I like riding it. Changed the oil at 8 hours which is a super pain in the ass to drain unless you remove the deck. Otherwise, love it. Really looking forward to pushing some snow with it this winter.

Can someone give me the easy button lawn care product I can lay down at this time of year to control weeds/crab grass and beef up the lawn for next season?

RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Ryan T - 10-02-2018

Scotts Winter Weed and Feed. Or, you could lay down regular Scotts fertilizer and overseed new grass seed.

Need to buy new fridge and washer dryer. Thinking French door fridge would be more convenient for us with cooking and stuff. The rest of the appliances in the kitchen are ge so was thinking of getting get so handles match but looking at Samsungs a little too. I know display models are pretty beat up but just seems like the drawers slide much smoother. I actually pulled the ge drawer out and it got stuck out and I pulled it out and couldn't even get it back in. Plus the ice maker in the door of the ge makes it so the door has to be completely open to open the drawers.

Just seems like everything is smoother and more thought out in the Samsung but Samsung gets really bad reviews if something is wrong with the unit between crappy customer service and their non-existent local service Network.

Washer and dryer... Was looking at the Samsung 5.0 cu ft flex door or whatever front load. The one with the little hatch. For the main reason that it's 5.0 cu ft and figure I could maybe leave the hatch open but big door closed to keep it aired out so it dries between uses. Wife wants he top load though but I'm leaning towards front load. Not necessarily sold on samsung though for reasons above and although it has lots of settings, it didn't score at the top of any tests.

So I know that was long but those are my thoughts. Any experience with these brands or others you swear by. I know we just had this discussion but it seems like all manufacturers are prone to quality control issues on the new stuff and want to limit headaches as much as possible.

With a small yard, I'd spray it with one of those hose bottles. We used a green bottle with a orange top (can't remember brand) that was for crab crass and nut sedge and a ton of other crap. When applied correctly, it seems to work pretty well. (when put into a backpack sprayer from the hose so diluted and lightly misted over the yard cause my boss is cheap af, it was much less effective)

I have a set of Samsung appliances, bought them last year from Costco as part of a kitchen remodel.  So far no complaints - I like them, they do what they're supposed to and worlds better than the 10 year old budget shit that I had before.

Washer and dryer are LG - they're ok but the washer drain pump has gone tits up twice now.  Its a $25 part and they're easy enough to work on, but I dont know if I would buy them again.

The fridge has a french door top/bottom freezer and its the best configuration, IMO.   I'm moving soon and remodeling the kitchen as soon as we move in on the new place - plan to use the same or similar appliances.

RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - ScottyB - 10-17-2018

further update on our LG appliance experience as a data point....

so our dishwasher was taken care of about 3 months out of warranty on LG's dime via a good faith control board replacement earlier this year. so far so good.

based on that customer service we bought an LG washer/dryer combo, and the dryer's control board was acting flaky as well as the drum making some noise due to a seam on the insulation that runs on the edges. they sent a corporate technician out to us within a week and its been fixed after about 3 total weeks of working out a schedule to get the guy back to finish it all up. good guy, polite, fast, and actually on time.

can't say i love how our LG stuff has had control panel woes, but they've taken care of everything with a pretty solid support response.

After renovating our last house, I 100% buy from Costco now for appliances.

Issue with washer/dryer through Costco - call Costco, nice lady, sets up everything, I dont even talk with the manufacturer. I never see a bill.

Issue with Refrigerator through HD - "Call the manufacturer, we don't do anything".  Call manufacturer, long wait time, 1st person was clueless, 2nd person had some clue.  Wanted $175/hr to figure it out + parts and couldn't tell me anything if it might be under warranty etc.  I ended up ordering parts and fixing it for myself for $48.

The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Sully - 10-17-2018

Was considering Costco as well. The fridge I have my eye on is more there by a pretty good margin over hd but I'd like to use my Costco Visa and double the warranty to 4 years which I guess works anywhere but would only be two years at HD since Costco already doubles time warranty. Hopefully it goes on sale at Costco soon.

I've heard several people say Samsung appliances suck. The house we bought has a Samsung french door fridge, with a lower fridge drawer and bottom freezer. It's pretty nice, but if we don't empty the ice maker every week it freezes up and you have to dethaw the maker. Not a super big deal, but it'd be a pain if I bought the fridge new.

Washer and dryer are both Maytag. No complaints.

RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - .RJ - 10-17-2018

you will find enough people to say that any brand appliance sucks. they are simple devices with pretty faces.

This. Plus it depends on install. People have complained about fridges not working properly only to find out they've crammed it in a space without proper spacing for ventilation or that they bought improper fittings/filters/etc.

We have Samsung Fridge, dishwasher, and range. Whirlpool microwave. All of them have been great so far (about a year now).

How about recalls for catching fire?

In news of not fitting, I foresee an argument with our builder coming up. The standard 36" fridge opening we were told we were getting measures 35.75 (which most 36" fridges seem to come in around 35.8 ) before the counters are on and that's with pulling the baseboard trim. It's a wall that I've already complained about being extremely bowed. I have a feeling they're not going to fix it and we'll be stuck with 33" fridge options

RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - .RJ - 10-17-2018

Make them fix it. Getting any non-standard appliance down the road is a pain in the ass. The previous owners of my house had the same problem - baseboard and countertop in the way and they sent it and shoved that motherfucker in anyways, when it came out it was twisted in every direction and dented AF. Fortunately you couldnt see it with it in place. With my kitchen remodel we didnt put baseboard or trim on the wall and I cut the countertop 1/4" shorter on the other side, and it juuuuust barely squeeked in place without damaging anything.

Also relevant is adventures in home selling - my house is on the market and earlier today this eastern euro couple in their 50’s just came to the house asking if they could come in and see it, I have no idea where they came from - didnt see a car pull up. i told them to come back with their agent, i didnt want them in the house... i didnt know if they were real buyers or con artists/thieves. fucking bizarre. It was about 3pm so I have no idea how they would have known anyone was home.

The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Sijray21 - 10-17-2018

Probably casing the joint. My in-laws have gotten a few non-agent 'buyers' and they all seemed surprised to see them home. Plus who knows about the squatting laws and what crazy people are pulling...

RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - ScottyB - 10-17-2018

eastern european....did they bring das tickler?

but yeah that's...an uncomfortable surprise. good call on telling them to piss off and bring their agent. i've never heard of someone rolling up like that and just asking to be let in.

Yeah our agent has been staying on top of them and dealing with most of that for us. Went by tonight and measured with counter tops on. Front edge of counter is just over 35.75. Back edge is 36". To wall. So the baseboard would still have to come off.

In other news, this was a spec house but because they wanted to get it off their books before end of the year, they allowed us to make a few changes to lower the price even more. One of the things was we selected a lower tier granite to save a pretty good chunk of change. Went over today and they had installed the original high tier granite. I thought it looked really cool and interesting over the one we picked (only had like 3 choices and this was what we settled on, not loved). So I was like score but told wife and she was unsure. We drive out and look in person. She absolutely hates it...so looks like they'll be ripping out all these counters and putting in what we ordered. From what my agent understands, the last section reserved for this style of house may be getting changed so there may be no more of our model built. So even if they could get the counter off unbroken, they'll have no use for it anymore. So I'm sure they'll be super thrilled with is going forward.
