Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 09-10-2013 ^wow. Anyway, Toni is still firmly on the bandwagon, trying to convince her that the 5C is probably worth it for her when upgrading from the 4. Get the more memory for the $200. She's no power user so I can't see her benefitting from the "twice as fast"ness and if the camera is the same as the 5 than it's good enough. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Jake - 09-10-2013 Ken Wrote:^wow. Yeah, I mean... I really liked my 4. Great design, the specs were stout from day one and have remained good enough for most people. I upgraded to the 5 because my contract was up, I wanted the bigger screen/faster processor/non-scratched-to-hell camera lens. But I don't see the 5S being a worthy upgrade for me. Who knows what the "iPhone 6" will bring in a year, but Android has some really cool abilities and the UX is starting to get more refined/consistent. Granted, I will only go Android if I can get it sans-manufacturer skin on top. For Toni, a 5c would be a fantastic, relatively cheap upgrade from her 4. Do it. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 09-10-2013 I'm torn on this too. I really like the HTC One, the hardware is really impressive. I think it'll be good *right now* but I think the jPhone is just the better thing over the long term (2+ years). There wont be any unsupported OS, hardware problems, etc. And I hate to say it, but as soon as my girlfriend gets rid of her 5 year old Samsung phone and gets an iPhone, I can ditch my text plan and save $20/month. I'm pretty much set on getting the iPhone 5S, in gold of course. I've had iPhones for a long time now, and for all of Apple's faults the shit just works, and keeps working. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Mike - 09-10-2013 Jake Wrote:Well, my mom will just love a pink iPhone 5c when her iPhone 4 is due for upgrade. have they ever really innovated since the initial iteration? i'd argue not. there's only so much tech out there and that you can cram into such a small form-factor and only in a year. people want more, more, more, but it isn't really there. the only item i can really say is lacking is a badass camera like the lumia. other than that, what is there that they don't have? gimmick features like flicking pictures to people in the room? or not actually having to touch my touchscreen? or a 12" screen? do not want. apple's innovation is in the new product, not the iterative product. i can't think of any examples where that doesn't hold true. I've only seen like 1-2 things on an Android phone that I wish I could have, and it ain't worth carrying a charger around for. I can still go away for a weekend with my 4 and not have to charge the thing - impressive for being 3+ years old. Plus, I'm far too deep into the Apple ecosystem to get out now. Unless iOS 7 is truly awful, I'll be getting a 5S. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - CaptainHenreh - 09-11-2013 .RJ Wrote:I can ditch my text plan and save $20/month. Text plan? What the fuck? What is this, 2005? Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 09-11-2013 $20/mo for texts with AT&T.... iMessage is free Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - CaptainHenreh - 09-11-2013 .RJ Wrote:$20/mo for texts with AT&T.... iMessage is free That's fuckin' stupid. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 09-11-2013 .RJ Wrote:$20/mo for texts with AT&T.... iMessage is free Uhh texting on m droid has been bundled in for years making it essentially no more money for unlimited texting. Doesn't imessage use data/WiFi? Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2 Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 09-11-2013 I didnt know it was specific to the device.... weird. I didnt know i've been getting fucked on this for 5 years. And iMessage goes through data/wifi, otherwise its $.20/text, without the plan. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - G.Irish - 09-11-2013 Sully Wrote:Who is your carrier? Each carrier has a different texting plan..RJ Wrote:$20/mo for texts with AT&T.... iMessage is free TMo is unlimited but with AT&T I had to do the $20 for texting plan too for all of the people not on iMessage. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 09-11-2013 I'm on ATT and have not paid for texting in years... Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - G.Irish - 09-11-2013 After switching to a S4 from the iPhone the only thing I can say I miss is the games and Tweetbot. Just about everything else is as good or better and I never have to deal with iTunes again. Google Now is better on the S4 and the integration with Google Services works very well. For those considering switching, I would wait for the Nexus 5 to drop though. I like the unskinned Android experience my wifey gets on the Nexus 4 better than Touchwiz. Not that it's bad per se, but it's just not as elegant and really isn't needed. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Sully - 09-11-2013 I have Verizon. My data plan came with unlimited texting. That was when I had unlimited data. No I'm capped at two gigs but nothing on my text plan has changed and vzw to vzw texts have been free for over 5 years now. I'm sure other carriers are the same. I can find anything like this on their wireless plans. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 09-11-2013 What kind of plan are you on? All of the mobileshare plans include unlimited texting & talk. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 09-11-2013 Individual plan. Looking at the mobile share deal, 2GB + $45 per phone lands me exactly where I am now, if not more, per month. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 09-11-2013 Looks like I'd be saving a little bit of $$ with Verizon, but I think its a non-starter for me. When my ex finally joined the civilized world and got a smart phone, she first went with a Verizon iPhone - the service was terrible in every way. Reception, dropped calls, data speed, couldnt use voice + data at the same time (less of an issue for me now since I dont work from home full time any longer), and customer service. Things could have certainly changed in the past 2 years but I'm not going to trade hassle for $15-20/month. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 09-11-2013 if you're past your contract and no need for a new phone, prepaid is the way to go. same service, much cheaper. all the carriers now have "bring your own phone" prepaid as well as auto-billing so nothing changes, your bill is just smaller. and I dont know HOW you iUsers can type on that tiny skinny screen keyboard. even the iphone 5 is the same width screen as the original 3.5" screen Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - G.Irish - 09-11-2013 Evan Wrote:if you're past your contract and no need for a new phone, prepaid is the way to go. same service, much cheaper. Not only that, but Swype is way faster. |
