Just paid my 6 month premium. 715.50$ Sad

But an online driving education course can drop that by 60$, so I am going to do that soon.

- WRXtranceformed - 02-07-2009

Mine is about to jump to almost $1300 / 6 months. No sympathy here my friend.

Who are you with? You're getting a hell of a deal, especially with that ticket.

Allstate. $500 deductible.

...and how much is the course?

i've definitely determined that location is a HUGE factor in insurance rates. i remember when i was insured in h-burg and it was about 1/2 of what i would've paid in northern VA.

accord = $450/yr Wink

- Mike - 02-08-2009

civic = 360/yr. Smile

- WRXtranceformed - 02-08-2009

Hah I had progressive when I had my STi, the IS and my Tundra.... I think I was paying $3600 / year. Or maybe that was when it was the WRX, STi and Tundra I can't remember. I'm glad I got all of that out of my system when I was younger before I got all responsible (sort of)

Liability only I assume? That is a lot if you guys are riding pedal bikes all the time anyways.

Not sure if you said this already in this thread, but did yours go up going from Nova to Charlotte?

full coverage. despite riding a pedal bike everywhere, it is still useful to have a car some times. is 360/yr really a lot to own a car?

It went down initially, but NC just raised their rates across the board for car insurance.

Rex and I pay ~$650 every 6 months for the focus, and the Speed 3. The bike is 80 bucks a year to insure. I can't imagine paying much more than that. Oh and we do have full coverage on both as we are still making payments. Actually last year, the focus cost more to insure than the Speed 3 because of all the extra safety features the Speed 3 has.

i consider that chump change for full coverage for any vehicle

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 03-16-2010

Did my annual car insurance shopping. Cheapest for me right now (went through a number of brokers and captured agents) was Nationwide believe it or not. My Allstate renewal was set to renew at like $1069 / 6 months, Nationwide was able to get to $659.75 / 6 months with the same coverage and a lower deductible. Unfortunately I have this damn accident on my record that was registered as my fault even though it wasn't (long story, still very frustrating if you ask me about it) so that's keeping my rates higher than they should be....but they're finally becoming more reasonable.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Sijray21 - 03-16-2010

that's a lot, but that is a pretty big drop. that sucks about the accident on your record though Sad

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - ViPER1313 - 03-16-2010

What sort of coverage limits do you guys opt for?

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - JohnC - 03-16-2010

We're currently at $580 / 6 months for the WRX and the 330i. Apparently, that's going to drop to $522 / 6 months for our next term, which begins next week. And once I sell the 330i, it'll be $300 / 6 months for just the WRX.

$500 deductible.

USAA, all the way.

ViPER1313 Wrote:What sort of coverage limits do you guys opt for?
$100k/$300k BI, $50k Prop damage
Towing & Labor - $50 per
Rental car - $30/day max $900
UM/UIM - $100k / $300k
$500 deductible now with Nationwide

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 03-26-2010

Sweet, so I got my Nationwide car insurance information. Supposedly as part of their policy is an included "Roadside Assist" a lot like what you get with AAA. This is what you get:

Towing services up to $100 (part of most insurance coverages anyway)
Ditch extraction
Emergency fuel delivery if you run out
Battery service (free jump starts if you're out in bumfuck like I occasionally am)
Lockout service up to $100 if I lock myself out of the car
Free flat tire changes...I'm ok with changing my own tire though hah
And discounts at restaurants, stores and attractions? I don't know what that's about.

Nice little bonus! And I saved over $800 per year by taking up about 3 or 4 hours of my time researching new companies. A good investment imo.

Re: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - D_Eclipse9916 - 03-27-2010

Gieco offers actually a really good Roadside assistance. For 7 dollars ever 6 months, I get free towing (yes ive been twice towed from Harrisonburg to Northern Virginia, and once towed from VIR all the way to Northern Virginia, never saw a tow bill and never got questioned). Hell id say the VIR to NOVA bill was probably more than I pay every 6 months for all three of my cars (about $580/6 months). It has been invaluable for me when I had the gsx Tongue
