my inside tread is almost gone so i'll be looking at a new set within the next few months. you guys still think the 912's are the shizzle dizzle? i'm trying to keep the price under 100 for each and around 300 treadwear.

I've put about 1000 miles on my 912s already, and I'd have to say that they are a very adequate tire. I did for some reason notice them "soften up" after about a week worth of driving. I do hardly any aggressive driving at all, but I've found that the sidewalls seem softer now through the turns. It could just be my mind but I really feel like they changed, or maybe I just got used to them. Reasonably quiet, have performed decently in the rain and are sticky enough to avoid a lot of tire squeal if I get on it off of a stoplight.
For the price I feel like they're awesome tires. I'm rotating them pretty much every oil change to try to maximize their life, so I'll report back when it's time for new ones.

i've got about 1000 miles on my RE-760's. so far i'm very pleased for what i bought them for - a sporty DD tire that can be autocrossed 2-3 times a year. i came from Falken FK452's which performed great during the 30k miles i had them. they were reasonably sticky, unstoppable in rain and had alot of tread left after 30k. however i took them off early despite having some tread left due to a nasty pull they developed for the last 8k miles or so. i had to constantly fight the wheel to the left or i'd be diving for the shoulder. i guess it was from the crowns in the roads? despite my constant tire rotation and checking my alignment twice (its fien) it wore out my patience and was super annoying.
the 760's have about as much overall grip and are MUCH quieter. they also ride alot better despite having what feels like a stiffer sidewall when in transitions - this is at similar tire pressures. i've driven through some decent rain and they feel fine. i'm curious to see how they'll do in massive downpours where the FK would just plow through. one thing they don't handle as well as the FK's is heat...in my first autocross with these they were very slippery after the 3rd run. that is to be expected though consider the 340 treadwear rating! i'm hoping for 35k out of these considering the FK's were a 300 treadwear IIRC.
C/D magazine did a sporty tire comparison in this month's issue and the 760 placed 4th out of 9 behind some pretty dedicated tires like the star spec, ecsta XS and ventus evo. they are priced decently and tire rack took care of me as well as ever. :thumbup:

Just put S-drives on the front for me man. Hoping to get good grip with those tires. I'll give input eventually on them when the car actually uses them.

so thanks to an awesome blow out driving home last year I got to replace my rears with only the finest offerings from the local pep-boys in scenic Bridgeport, CT. The Hanook Ventus were the only 18" tires they carried.
fast forward to this weekend, the M failed the state inspection because my fronts are bald (I really don't know how I didn't notice that earlier, but alas)
so I have a couple options
1. get matching Hanooks for the front, which incidentally are actually pretty cheap "max summer"
2. use this as an opportunity to get 4 good tires, not just whatever they have at pep-boys
3. get some winter tires - this winter is supposed to be pretty bad and running around on summer tires doesn't really leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling

I've got to say, I'm pretty impressed with how the Ziex 912s performed in the couple inches of snow / slush / ice we got last night. I've got a new set literally sitting on my basement floor, the ones on my car are all under 3/32" and I was able to get around pretty easily. Not that I would necessarily recommend these for winter driving, but I've been on far worse tires and it's good to know that you can at least get around if you need to.

30k (on a DIY alignment) on my 912s and I have to say that for me they have been an emergency get you home tire, but nothing to count on in over 2 inches. The Fuzion VRi on annes G35 however are absolutely kickass in the snow. About as good as you can get without going to a dedicated winter/snow tire.

Kumho ASXs, absolute beast in the snow, aside from the front bumper of the GSX acting like a plow, went through 8 inches of snow in my drive way no problem, with solid ice under said 8 inches

Sumitomo HTR Z II - Cheap, and marginal all around, if anyone cares. They are predicable, but they grip way less than my Goodyears did (which is also due to their smaller size, but whatever) and are so-so in the rain. The also grip less in the snow than my Goodyears did as slicks, but that's not really fair because they are summer tires.

yeah i had the HTR zii years ago on my wrx. not a very impressive tire for track duty, grip was mediocre and overheated quickly

I had those on the Supra, and actually liked them a lot more than the previous Yoko ES100's. They hooked up better and lasted a hell of a lot longer.

I have to agree with Lee, my 912s with about 8K on them have done well this winter on the Teg. Our neighborhood roads have been pretty bad quite often this year, obviously, and I have had no trouble. Including this week with a mix of solid ice and deeper soft spots. Probably has a lot to do with being a light FWD car, I guess anything short of a bald or all out summer performance tire would work...

Suggestions for a new set of summers? I have Azenis that have lasted me 10k miles between street use, 7 autocrosses, 2 touring lap sessions, and a weekend at Deal's Gap. They'll probably last another 2-3k but I want some ideas.
The car does need an alignment, that definitely contributed to the poor wear aside from my general fooling around on the Azenis. Since I'm picking up the Koseis from Navin, I'm now looking for a 15" tire, probably 195 or 205.
I could do another set of Azenis. Also considering the Direzza Star Specs. I want the max summer tire for the lowest price.

Jake, for lighter cars like yours, get the khumo xs. They are cheaper than the dunlops, but the dunlops perform better in the rain. I was set on getting the khumo XS until I read some more about them vs the dunlops. So I'll be getting 245/40/17 dunlops next month w/ some new shoes, studs, and lug nuts.
edit : also look at the hankook rs-3s
