Yeah I'd like to try my own marinade but it just adds to the cost and mess of the meal for daily eating. Maybe for a special dinner or something I'll fire that up! - Evan - 01-05-2009 I heart flank steak. I need to figure out how to make london broil. - CaptainHenreh - 01-05-2009 G.Irish Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:I got Jenn a couple of Kyocera ceramic knives for xmas. Those things cut like a hot knife through butter. I weighed the pros and cons of ceramic knives and pulled the trigger. She seems to like them a lot so hopefully they'll stay sharp as long as advertised and won't break if they should be accidentally dropped.I brought my dad back a ceramic knife from Japan and he cut himself pretty good just taking it out of the package. MONDO sharp! I just bought a ceramic folder from Flint Knives. Very reasonably priced, I'll let you guys know how it is. - Apoc - 01-05-2009 WRXtranceformed Wrote:Ohh. Doing your own is cheaper. - .RJ - 01-05-2009 WRXtranceformed Wrote:Ohh. Yeah I'd like to try my own marinade but it just adds to the cost and mess of the meal for daily eating. Maybe for a special dinner or something I'll fire that up! It only takes a few minutes to whip up marinades and dressings and its not much more $$. - WRXtranceformed - 01-05-2009 Not when your roommate bought the marinade
- ScottyB - 01-05-2009 anybody have plans for a Big Green Egg grill? there's a display of them at the local ACE hardware and i find myself drooling over them all the time. they have a cooking festival at their factory not far from me and i really want to go this fall. they have a hefty price tag though. but can you put a price on quality leisure? - Apoc - 01-05-2009 I know some cooks that have them and love them... but I just got a regular Weber charcoal to augment my gas grill. I really couldn't justify the price tag. - Mike - 01-05-2009 Evan Wrote:best knives in the biz. the best knives in the biz are the knives that fit and work for the person who is using them. when i was shopping, i really wanted to like them, but they didn't fit my hand properly. - .paul - 01-05-2009 Mike Wrote:Evan Wrote:best knives in the biz. tr00f. that is why i didnt like the henkles or wusthofs - ViPER1313 - 01-05-2009 A knife isn't a knife? - Mike - 01-05-2009 ViPER1313 Wrote:A knife isn't a knife? is a ferrari very different from a taurus? - ViPER1313 - 01-05-2009 Mike Wrote:ViPER1313 Wrote:A knife isn't a knife? I'll admit, I'm ignorant to this. What does buying a baller knife set get you over a generic set and a grinding stone/sharpener? - WRXtranceformed - 01-05-2009 I had a knife set that was pimp until I put them all through the dishwasher... FAIL! I'm such a single dude. - Apoc - 01-05-2009 ViPER1313 Wrote:I'll admit, I'm ignorant to this. What does buying a baller knife set get you over a generic set and a grinding stone/sharpener? Quality of steel determines how sharp an edge a knife can hold. Crappy knives not only dull uberfast, their edges can't even be sharpened to something worthwhile because they chip/crack at a microscopic level. - .paul - 01-05-2009 The handling of a knife is huge too. The grip/handle, and weight play a huge factor. - Evan - 01-05-2009 Mike Wrote:hah, didnt think Id offend anybody, I guess I should have said IMO! (and in a lot of other peoples opinions too, like Alton Brown!Evan Wrote:best knives in the biz. )But yes you are right. The Shuns are a different feel from the German blades. Much lighter and nimbler. Like comparing a Katana to a Broadsword. I actually have a big set of forged Chicago Cutlery that I got to fill in the gaps since the Shun set is only 6 knives. They arent as sharp or as well balanced as the Shuns but I REALLY like the feel of them and for the price they are a steal. - HAULN-SS - 01-05-2009 I have a set of those Chicago Cutlery knives as well, and you're right for the money..i'm not entirely convinced they'll stay as sharp as some, but then again, i abuse them a lot too. |
