There really isn't any better way other than an Aeropress. I like the Aeropress if it's just me. Packs well, it's light, and makes a great single cup of coffee. If it's a big group I bring my 9 cup percolator. A lot of people complain it's hard to use, but it takes 2 or 3 tries before you figure it out. Good dark roast and a percolator and it'll make some seriously potent coffee. Re: Do Bears S**t In the Woods? Re: Do Bears S**t In the Woods? (The Camping Thread) - Sully - 06-30-2017 For tent camping, I like my quechua 2 second tent. I want to say it's 3 but maybe it the 4man XL air (sides open up slightly for air flow). Literally unbag it and throw it in the air and down comes a tent. 4-5 stakes and done. It's roomy enough inside for sleeping. You can't really stand up all the way but it's ease of setup is hard to beat. It is bulky (size wise it packs down to a giant flat pancake shape) so it would be hard to backpack with but I never do that anyways. I'm trying to plan a trip for jetskiing and camping later this summer but I was looking into trying to rent something like Scotty is building. I want to find a way to get the fiancé somewhat interested but so far no luck. She won't even consider going. I don't camp enough anymore and never had alot of camping "gear" so no point in listing other things. One of my favorite things was cooking though. Camp fire cooking is pretty awesome. Usually car camping, but sometimes up a mountain so the list fluctuates a bit. REI Half Dome 2 tent - fits two properly sized adults nicely 15 degree Sea to Summit bag - For the colder months, but if chilly in summer I'll use it as a top layer 55 degree REI bag/liner - In the summer I start with only this, but if chilly or camping as two it'll be a bottom layer Exped Synmat HL Duo pad - pretty much the fanciest/lightest two-person pad on the market. Blows up to 3" Thermarest compressible pillow Black Diamond rechargeable headlamp Coleman 2-burner stove or MSR Pocket Rocket if going light Jetboil 10" frying pan Small metal pot with a collapsible handle and locking lid Metal cup - used for drinks and eating Plastic plates Long titanium spork ENO double-wide hammock REI Flexlite chair Leatherman Wave Estwin 14" hatchet Paracord - always seem to need some Rechargeable + dynamo camp lantern Lighter 5G collapsible water bag Columbia Thermal Tote - Cooler that fits anywhere, is very light, keeps ice separate from stuffs, and collapses Anker power brick I also do Starbucks Via or any fancier instant coffee packets I can find (REI has some currently). I bought my mom a lightweight one that rolls up for her hiking trip in Peru a few years ago and have thought about picking one up just for emergency purposes for the house. The one I got for her IIRC you can just loop around the top / back of your pack and it will charge while you hike Re: Do Bears S**t In the Woods? (The Camping Thread) - Apoc - 07-05-2017 I have an external battery that can charge via solar. It's noticeably bigger than a non-solar version and it takes like 12 hours of direct sunlight to charge for 1.5 phone charges. You'd be surprised how little time you spend in direct sun while on the move, so I don't think they're worth it. If you want something for emergencies, a hand crank wouipd probably be more efficient. It's slow AF and sun isn't all that easy to come by in the woods. Re: Do Bears S**t In the Woods? (The Camping Thread) - Mike - 07-05-2017 Apoc Wrote:No shame in my game. (Wife is six months pregnant here.) Nope, and I know it. Doing it > not doing it. Only issue is when it comes to trying to minimize vehicles. I suppose your cargo box helps with that. I've toed the line on all my purchases of comfort versus minimalism just in case I do some serious backpacking thing... I've got the gear for it. Unfortunately minimal and comfortable come with a huge price tag. In other news, I'm hoping to get deep into dispersed camping this year. It's a whole better underworld of camping. Basically find a spot in the woods that's a touch off the beaten path and it's yours for free. Re: Do Bears S**t In the Woods? (The Camping Thread) - .RJ - 07-05-2017 Those REI flex chairs look nice. I should probably pick some of those up. Re: Do Bears S**t In the Woods? (The Camping Thread) - Mike - 07-05-2017 .RJ Wrote:Those REI flex chairs look nice. I should probably pick some of those up. I sat in everything there including the high price tag ones. The REI one felt best. They were on big sale prior to the 4th :/ Re: Do Bears S**t In the Woods? We were able to fit everything and three dudes in the wagon with no roof box for rafting, so it wasn't horrible. I did come to realization that we're camping with him next month and there's no way the gear box and Yeti will fit in the trunk. I'm probably going to break down into smaller boxes for our trip and leave all the unnecessary crap behind because we have to bring a pack/play for him to sleep in. :? Once he's old enough to camp like an adult, I'm going to have a Camping Light version like yours. If I camped as much as you, I'd probably be very sick of our camp set up and break down time. Right now, we're kinda in the worst of all worlds. I know people do it with infants and a lot less, but I'm also catering to the desires of someone who first time camping was that tarped tent pictured above. Re: Do Bears S**t In the Woods? We grilled chickens: ![]() and ate s'mores: ![]() The girls all loved it, I have never really done any "serious" camping but this seemed to work out OK as an exploratory mission.
