I could, but the windshield is a mile away from me and I'd have to run a power wire behind the dash. Meh.

I was thinking I might be able to nestle it near the A-Pillar and run the power wire from the center console under the driver's side of the dash. That would ahve it much more in my line of sight and wouldn't be too much of a pain to install.

How does that app read things like pressure and temp?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - CaptainHenreh - 05-09-2013

Through the OBD port?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 05-09-2013

ohhh okay, thought you would just use the cell phone's battery

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - SlimKlim - 05-09-2013

Jon you buy one of these cheapo OBD2 dongles from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Supper-Compatible-Andriod-2-Blue/dp/B009NPAORC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1368133167&sr=8-2&keywords=bluetooth+obd2 and hope you get one that works. Then it just streams the data to the device.

Some people claim the boost readings and other stuff are inaccurate, but others say you just have to take the time to set up the app correctly, including your elevation, so it knows how to calculate everything correctly. We'll have to throw it in Jake's car and compare it to the analog gauges once we get it set up.

Ken I thought about just doing that but if I hard wire it I can get the screen to stay on 100% of the time. Maybe I'll even use one of those UI apps to show a VW logo when it gets power and lock it down to only that app.

Kinda hoping your friend pans out because I kinda wanna do this now lol. let me know how Jake's works out!

Ive used OBD logging before on my WRX, and the sample rate is pretty low. Perhaps the app interpolates, but unless things have been improved (and i think its an OBD spec thing) youre still losing a lot of resolution for spikes and such, especially when it comes to boost and a/f. Other things may not matter as much like water and oil.

btw, they make mounts that will suction stick to a textured dashboards and a-pillars now.

ive also used one that clamps inside your (assumingly unused) cd slot

Sound logical. I'm not too concerned about 100% accuracy, its mostly just for the gimmick of it, and it'll be nice to know when my oil temp is actually up so I can guiltlessly hoon. Although I guess if I'm ever having boost issues I'll regret not having an analog gauge.

That mount is sweet! I might grab that and a 90* power connector so I can stick it on the dash near the a-pillar and have it look not too junky. Sneaking the wire down the side of the dash and under the steering column can't be that hard.

I'm waiting for my buddy to locate that phone and drop it in the mail before I order any of the other stuff, then it's game on!

if youd rather not take the chance, and you have $100.

Anyone have any suggestions for a case/keyboard for the first Gen Ipad? Theyre pretty scarce and the only one I found is DAMN expensive http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/ ... dition=new

iOS7 feels a lot like android/webOS/metro all pushed into one. Lots of features, but all kind of kluged together.

Is that a diaper genie?

trashcans come in cheaper non-apple branded versions too.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - HAULN-SS - 06-11-2013

Did they announce pricing on that yet? Also, I can't believe they went with ATi on the GPUs. Regardless of the specs, no one is using ATi for GPGPU computing, and no one is going to buy what is surely to be a super high priced diaper genie to only play video games on, that may or may not be able to take advantage of dual GPUs.

Edit: There may be some market for media editing crowd, I suppose.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JPolen01 - 06-11-2013

What is that nonsense?

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - BLINGMW - 06-11-2013

yeah I don't *THINK* it's for playing video games. And it's a little small for diaper capacity. :dunno:

I had already edited to include some of the other potential uses. My basic objection is that in trying to force expansion of their OpenCL framework, they went with ATI GPUs which almost no one in the GPGPU world uses for simulation or real time GPU processing (because CUDA + Nvidia is superior).

You are speaking Spanglish right now. What is that thing and why does it suck?
