The Super Official Homeowners Thread - ViPER1313 - 05-24-2018 The idea of spending 500k on a house makes me feel ill. I’ll keep on livin Hood Rich. When the metro actually got there prices didn’t rise at all (in fact I saw a slight drop). Yeah, I got in around that time. But even then it wasnt a huge bump - nothing like the pricing insanity around 2007-2008. Maybe that nonsense kept values from blowing up as people were buying and not speculating but who knows. I feel like I'll have a reasonable return when I sell, but its nothing crazy. Bought @ $370k, will likely sell at $460k 7 years later and I've put about $30k into the house in updates/upgrades. RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Apoc - 05-24-2018 Everyone pays somehow. It's either money, commute, area, or ease of access to a certain lifestyle. For me, money is the least important of them all. RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Ken - 05-24-2018 (05-24-2018, 10:40 AM)Apoc Wrote: Everyone pays somehow. RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - D_Eclipse9916 - 05-24-2018 Everyone also has different taste and are in different points of their lives. hocker:I have zero interest in living in Washington State or Hoboken. But I also had 0% interest in living in a NC suburb community 5 years ago. Our lifestyles change. I had a kid and wanted to be a in an upper middle class neighborhood with kids. Once my kid graduates high school/college? We are out and onto another place. I loved NOVA in my single/DINK days, it lost lots of it's appeal once I had a kid. I don't hate NOVA, it just doesn't suit my lifestyle anymore. The only people that drive me nuts are those that pretend their happy and push it on others; and those who bitch about it and don't do anything. Oops, I might fall into the latter with racing .

I was really pushing for a move to richmond or charlottesville... we'll see. If I'm stuck here, we're moving this summer. I need a garage and a 911. RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Ryan T - 05-25-2018 Well we are officially moved into our new place! 3 bed, 2 bath, all on one level, 2400sqft, sunroom, deck, 2 car garage, little over 1/2 acre and extra storage in crawlspace. Our new house is at the end of a cul-de-sac and there is a horse farm behind us and a cattle farm beside us. We really only have one neighbor who is a retired state trooper. After talking to him, pretty much everyone who lives in the houses on our street are retired, which is perfectly fine with us. We closed at 11am on Wednesday and moved a few things with the truck and trailer that afternoon after cleaning up and coming to terms with the fact that I signed my life away, again. Thursday morning at 9am I met the movers (3 of them and their truck) at our 15x20 storage unit that was packed full. We filled the truck up once, unloaded at the new house, went back and put all my garage stuff/tools/some master bedroom stuff in it again and came back. Only things they wouldn’t move were my gun safe and gas grill. They were done by 2pm. Best $525 I ever spent. After they left one of my coworkers helped me move my gun safe and ammo box, along with a few other odds and ends. After that me, Sam and my uncle went out to the barn and loaded up all our patio furniture and riding mower. Got back and unloaded about 5pm and unpacked/organized until around 9:30 then we passed out. Woke up this morning at 6am and started again. Went hard until about 7pm, unpacking, placing, picking up the grill, etc. Broke down 3/4 of our boxes, which filled up my entire truck bed, and took them to the recyclers. We’ve called it quits for the day. The only thing left to organize is the garage. But we accomplished our goal of getting everything to the new house (from my moms, storage, and the farm), so everything that’s left takes place on our property. So far we love the new place. Only future plans are to put up a black chain link fence in the back yard and put in a paver patio/fire pit. RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - HAULN-SS - 05-26-2018 Previous owners took off the shutters and never put them back up for some reason. I thought it looked a little weird so I bought a bunch from Amazon architectural website. Been in the basement a year but I finally got around to putting them up. Think it improved the look quite a bit. Some before and after https://imgur.com/a/fcNjgRP The Super Official Homeowners Thread - davej - 05-26-2018 That looks a thousand times more proper! Are the lunettes decorative or could replace them with glass? The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Sijray21 - 05-26-2018 Way to go Thayer! Sounds like a good place to be. Derek - that looks a TON better. I'm amazed as how much that makes a difference... The Super Official Homeowners Thread - JPolen01 - 05-26-2018 Nice work of the shutters. Looks complete. Unfortunately they are decorative. I think they go up too high to be replaced with glass based on my ceiling height only being 9 feet. We are thinking of replacing the front door and I want to do something to let more light in but I think we will have to go wide to do that not up RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Jake - 05-28-2018 (05-25-2018, 08:29 PM)Ryan T Wrote: Well we are officially moved into our new place! 3 bed, 2 bath, all on one level, 2400sqft, sunroom, deck, 2 car garage, little over 1/2 acre and extra storage in crawlspace. Congrats on the new place and nice work knocking out the move and unpack so quickly! It's easy to get swamped with boxes and end up living among them for way longer than you plan. Post some photos once you get a minute to breathe! RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - D_Eclipse9916 - 05-29-2018 Congrats and wow! Can't believe you are mostly done. We are at our 30 day mark and lots to still be done/hang/organize. Bought my first lawnmower (Reston did all our yard work). Went gas and got a Husqvarna with the Honda motor. Thing fired up on the first rip and is exceedingly nice to use. I remember in high school mowing my grandparent's was such a pain. Don't tell my wife but it's not so bad mowing the lawn. Next one will be electric if it will work with the amount of grass I have. Can't stand having to deal with getting gas and all that after seeing my neighbor with his ballin' electric Kobalt mower. The Super Official Homeowners Thread - JustinG - 05-29-2018 No complaints with my EGO stuff. RE: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Jewels - 05-29-2018 I've been using a like 1st Gen Battery powered mower on my yard. The battery is old and doesn't hold the kind of charge I think it should, but I can currently mow my front yard or back yard on 1 charge. I should be able to do both of course, but I need to go get a new battery soon. Rex's dad bought this mower for his mom to use when he's outta town, but he's letting me borrow it for a while til I can get my own mower. I don't want the hassle of gas powered either because while my yard has two sheds on it, they both need to be torn down and replaced and I don't really have a good place to store fuel. Plus you all have had such good reviews that I'm definitely on the battery powered train! My worx cordless mower uses a $125 replacement battery and a $80 charger. I've already needed to replace one battery in 4 years and the charger is finicky, but I'm able to make it work... So irritating. Gas for me next time.(05-29-2018, 10:55 AM)D_Eclipse9916 Wrote: Bought my first lawnmower (Reston did all our yard work). Went gas and got a Husqvarna with the Honda motor. Plus there's nothing more irritating than either forgetting to charge your mower or it dying half way through a mow... I guess the same can be said for it either not starting due to a spark or fuel issue on a gas mower. I have a gas backpack blower that I use throughout the year and haven't had an issue yet. Don't tell my wife but it's not so bad mowing the lawn. Only 1/4 acre but all of the reviews stated the electrics lasted about 1/3 an acre at most, and I imagine a year or two on the batteries will cut that to half. I also found all the electrics that were self-powered were $500+. I just couldn't justify spending that much for not having to deal with a can of gas (which I always have #BCRACECAR). I do want self-proppelled because while my backyard is flat, my side yards have an angle and it just makes it that much easier. Learn me if I am wrong, I made sure I have 30 days to return the honda powered husqvarna. https://www.husqvarna.com/us/products/walk-behind-lawn-mowers/lc221rh/961430130/ Of course now I am looking at reviews... |
