I think the dude said it was 650+whp...he said it was terrifying but gratifying to drive. Super sweet, but I was turned off by the way they drive. I want to drive a modern IRS one, hope the steering, chassis, suspension feels a lot more crisp and smooth (and some damn finesse). I rented one as I was thinking of building one (at the time instead of the race car, I made the right choice). ![]() ![]()
Re: Beautiful Car Pics!! - WRXtranceformed - 05-31-2013 Can you be more specific about how it sucked to drive? Re: Beautiful Car Pics!! - Mike - 05-31-2013 was this from one of those exotic rental places? if so, keep in mind that those cars are ragged on all day in desert heat and are only maintained enough to keep them rolling. Yes, but not the first and only time I drove one. A friend's was much better, but it is still a kit car. Does not have that "finesse" that a modern porsche, bmw, and (yes) a modern corvette. I think the big problem is that I had built it up in my mind a lot more than can be reasonably expected out of a "kit" car. I certainly wouldnt do a "donor build". Therefore my want reduced, as to get it the way I want it, I would have to go the expensive route. Full tilton brake/clutch setup, flaming river steering rack, IRS kit (which is still just a thunderbird rear suspension), and massive tires. The car doesn't have the grip it should have considering the components, so you have to make it up with tire. Edit: Remember, most Factory Five Cobras (if we are talking reasonable pricing here under $50k), are built from Fox-Body mustang parts, probably one of the worst cars ever to pull steering, and rear solid axle suspension/geometry from. (sorry Matt) Re: Beautiful Car Pics!! - fiveoh2go - 05-31-2013 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Edit: Remember, most Factory Five Cobras (if we are talking reasonable pricing here under $50k), are built from Fox-Body mustang parts, probably one of the worst cars ever to pull steering, and rear solid axle suspension/geometry from. (sorry Matt)I don't know about worst ever, but I get your point. Let's be real here....Fox bodies (with their stock suspension that was designed during the Carter administration) are best left to pealing away from stop lights and going down the 1/4, NOT carving corners. I know that and I'm cool with that. You need to find a ERA or Shelby continuation series car to drive before placing final judgement on these beasts. Although they are big money, those cars have the IRS, steering, and brakes that match or exceed the original cars capabilities. And if it doesn't have a big block FE Ford engine in it....don't even bother! Re: Beautiful Car Pics!! - Goodspeed - 06-01-2013 fiveoh2go Wrote:You need to find a ERA or Shelby continuation series car to drive before placing final judgement on these beasts. A bunch of kits have turrible ladder frames that basically serve to get the car rolling without much thought to handling (Street Beasts, Backdraft, even Superformance I believe, to name a few). Don't worry, if I run into stupid money ill be building a full IRS, flaming river steering rack, race control armed, procharged FFR. I wouldn't hold your breathe. Actually a bick block Ford motor is heavy and hurts handling from what I have heard. Have either of you guys driven them? It just seems like I am catching a lot of flack for my OPINION (didnt say everyone else had to agree). Driving old muscles cars also ruined them for me. Cool as crap, but god I don't like driving them at all. (and worse of all I didnt particularly like the E39 m5, yes sacrilige) Edit: and yes I drove a turbo eclipse a few years back, talk about numb chassis and steering. I wouldnt buy one now :? Re: Beautiful Car Pics!! - ispoonwithmugen - 06-03-2013 I've followed his build thread on Vadriven for awhile. It's amazing. Re: Beautiful Car Pics!! - CaptainHenreh - 06-03-2013 ![]() ![]()

A replica Cobra is usually in my "fantasy garage" cloud somewhere, but you hardly hear about any of the other mfr's cars from a handling standpoint, or really from anyone who has any interest in the dynamics of the car beyond pulling into and out of a car show. I was looking for a confirmation-of-crapiness, so to speak, if that car was indeed anything other than a FFR.
