Chris, one thing you might wanna do when you play Halo MP is to not party up with people who are regulars at first. Reason being is that the matchmaking system will put you in matches with people of much higher skill levels if you're partied with higher skill levels. My roommate and I would play split screen and he was getting massacred until I signed out of my account and played on his account as a guest.
Really the difference between Halo and CoD is style of play, and what you need to do to be good at them. Both require accuracy but CoD is more about getting the best position on maps where Halo emphasizes taking advantage of the strengths and weaknesses of each weapon, armor ability, and vehicle. CoD is definitely more fast paced in the sense that you can kill people quicker, Halo forces you to move around more since camping isn't as successful a strategy.
Don't know if you'll enjoy Firefight but when you play locally you can customize it to your heart's content. Online if you're partied up with better players it doesn't matter because you're playing the computer.

This pretty much describes it.
Part of the reason I got worked so bad last night is because I always had the crappy spawn weapon and I couldn't do shit with them. I ended up doing a lot of waiting to spawn, running to the objective, getting killed and then starting it all over again.

Well, I've about had it with my XBOX.
Stupid fucking thing started giving me the bullshit "open tray" error with the netflix update, which may or may not be related. At first all I had to do was remove the HDD, boot the console without it, shut her down and plug the HDD back in. Well last night, it was really stubborn and that fix wouldn't work. I had to slap the HDD in while the console was running, which can't be good for it.
From my research it seems like the laser in the optical drive isn't indexing correctly, but I can't know anything for sure because the "experts" on this issue are 12 year old little bitches who make terrible quality youtube videos overlayed with even worse rap songs. My warranty is out as of November and I wouldn't want to wait the "4-6 weeks" anyway. And I sure as HELL ain't paying 100 dollars to fix a 200 dollar console. That's fucking retarded.
Anyway, if it keeps it up I'm going to replace the optical drive. If that doesn't work it's going to craigslist and I'm going to buy a goddamn playstation. I just don't understand how Julie's 20 fucking year old Nintendo STILL plays Super Punch Out and I can't get an Xbox to last 3 years....

While back, I knew a guy who owned pretty much every NES game and refused to get anything disc based because he said "the technology is flawed." I wonder if you all you guys watching a ton of Netflix on your boxes has anything to do with it. More spin time leads to greater wear?

I bet the drive doesn't go to sleep so you're increase your use time. I'm thinking that using Netflix just means your XBox is used more frequently and the drive wears out quicker.
The technology is definitely flawed and I'm certainly not making excuses. It shouldn't happen at all... just saying it seems like people with higher use have a greater incidence of problems (pointing to wear, not randomness).
