Re: Factory Five 818 - D_Eclipse9916 - 06-26-2013

It really makes me sad everytime I see the 818...and the potential it had to be gorgeous and fun. Then they stuck that body on it...

I am messed up, but...it doesnt look too bad in white/at this angle. Id like to see straight on.

Interior is surprisingly good for such a cheap kit car (door panels were not finished at the time, but I like the unfinished look)

Re: Factory Five 818 - Evan - 06-27-2013

yeah, fit and finish (for a kit car) is definitely Factory Five's strength. thats why its such a dissapointment to me that the car looks so bad. it really could have been the perfect kit car

Re: Factory Five 818 - Sully - 06-27-2013

Idk. I haven't followed this thread at all but from what I picked up from skimming is this is a $15,000 kit car? So 15k before you get a donor car/motor...do you need anything else that is major and would eat up a big chunk of change or can you be out the door so to speak for $18. Or maybe another grand or two and get a sti turbo (or motor) or maybe a turbo upgrade...

Doesn't sound bad to me for how that car looks. I think it looks decent in white and it looks damn better than any other rear/mid engined sports car for under $20k. On what planet do those even exist. I'm guessing it rwd and not awd but still sounds like a damn good idea to me. Looks just as good as most of the shit automakers have been feeding us these past few years (decade really)

Edit: kinda sounds like you guys are saying 15 out the door before labor of course. That would make it even better.

I think the "idea" is $15k out the door, but in reality probably 20-25k.

Evan on page 2 Wrote:If you could walk into a dealership write a check for $15k, and drive out with an 1800 pound WRX powered mid engine car Id agree with you.

But the sweat equity you have to invest in this is considerably more, so if Im busting my ass spending all my free time building this thing, the final product, light at the end of the tunnel, needs to get my blood pumping to make it worth it.

I think FF has lost sight of the fact that its the emotional attachment that has driven the popularity of their cobras all along.

agreed - but i think everyone's main gripe here is that the company essentially got about a million FREE submissions of really decent, creative designs, that would have blended together into a seriously sexy little car. instead, in the end they went with some kind of bastardization of a tiburon and a boxster :dunno:

Re: Factory Five 818 - Sully - 06-28-2013

Well I don't think that catfish thing looks that much better

Re: Factory Five 818 - ScottyB - 07-21-2013

140 down the backstraight? 1.3g at the top of the esses? that's pretty cool. i bet a street tired version with a stock powertrain would still haul ass on track.

dear factory five, this is how you do it.

I was curious how this project was going, they are making good progress and should ship kits soon. Here is an update and new pictures in street trim for anyone interested.

they also have done a bunch of endurance racing, so the car's pedigree is stout

I thought I was done with miatas, but this kit is really calling my name.

Re: Factory Five 818 - BLINGMW - 07-08-2015

I guess the body and door gaps aren't noticeable at speed....

Re: Factory Five 818 - Evan - 07-08-2015

we'll pretend thats just because its the prototype

Re: Factory Five 818 - BLINGMW - 07-08-2015

fair assumption, when you ordering one?

*edit*, just need silver prices to double and I'll let you build one for me too
