I think this would be a fun idea, and we have enough "cool cars" in the club (Deeeejaaaaay) that we could definitely get 12 to have some sl00ts drape across. I need to talk to the printers anyway, I can see about costs.

I have a model release that can be altered, if necessary.

We did Cafepress, 'cause I'm lazy and didn't want to deal with printers. If you order bulk they're $12.75 each, but I'm sure you could find a lot better. The one benefit of Cafepress is you can also sell online easily (for lower margin) and not have to deal with order processing and shipping.

Don't use cars that MM thinks are cool, use cars that everyone thinks are cool(ish). Putting a sentimental POS in a calendar might be awesome to you guys, but it will hurt mass appeal.

edit: ...and don't forget to sell ad space in the calendar to local businesses that feel males age 18-25 are their prime market. Big Grin

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - ScottyB - 10-04-2011

"cool to lots of people", photogenic cars off the top o' the head in no particular order:

Blair's SC300
Chan's 2002ti
Evdawg's Exige
Goody's 10th anniv. miata (knew that never ending coat of wax would pay off!)
Lee's classic stang
DJ's M3
Chris's 944 (just swipe a shot from the old calendar :lolSmile
Steve's vette
Jeff's challengaarrrr
David or Adam's STi
Justin's hatch
Scott's meeotter
edit: Pete's XR has to go in here somewhere.
profit?

boom, there's a wide variety mix of 12. now i'm no judge of what's calendar-worthy, and i'm sure i'm leaving some great cars off since i just thought of this right this very second, but that's stuff i think is cool and is not too worse for wear. granted some of these are alum cars and i have no idea who's still considered "MM" at this point, but whatever.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Kaan - 10-04-2011

lol so no R6... we need your 848 Wink

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - JustinG - 10-04-2011

I was thinking of a list to scotty, and I forgot about half of those cars!

Some others i was thinking about, granted not official MM members but owners of cool cars.

Cobetto's stang and Kyle from City Motors with his ZR1. Also that guy who brings the bentley and ferrari to the car shows????

But if we choose the right girls, the cars won't be the focus Smile

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Apoc - 10-04-2011

I think Scotty's list is full of win. A motorcycle or two couldn't hurt.

It would be a serious bitch to get them all together, but the calendar could be shot in several sessions. 3 Cars, 1 Girl.

The Ducati definitely needs to be in there. I can also bring the 1000RR up for a shoot. You'd have to do it soon before it gets too cold.

One of my buddies from work has a Cayman and would probably be down. My two roommates both have nice S2000's I could get in on the action. Also, what about Sean's E46?

So does DR THOMAS!!!! completely forgot about that as well.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - ScottyB - 10-04-2011

or how about Dan's jeep or that sweetass Kaiser Fire-Jeep that belongs to Jeff's friend?

again, i have no idea what's calendar-worthy but we have lots to pick from.

GAH! forgot about Pete's XR! that car HAS to be on the calendar.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - CaptainHenreh - 10-04-2011

How much market is there for this? Granted it's a cool idea and everyone <3's cars + tittays, but could we actually sell, say, 50 calendars? 25? Is that worth the effort?

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - JustinG - 10-04-2011

I think we could sell enough to gain some profit, however if its just alumni/current students buying the calendar, we should just skip it and you donate $25.

I like the idea of using Cafe Press, we can order X amount, sell them, and if we need more, we order more or point people to Cafepress????

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - .RJ - 10-04-2011

You only need 3 or 4 cars and a bike. Remember, sex sells, not cars.

Wink more photostock = easy calendars on "ugly" years at JMU

In addition to this, i think it might be a tad too late to do a 2012 calendar. But it might not be a bad idea to do some "MM Photoshoots" for promo photos, calendars, etc.

Always a use for sexy car pictures.

Re: Money In Da Bank (Split from GForce thread) - Apoc - 10-04-2011

Realistically, you're probably looking at 50 calendars. Assuming a margin of $10, that's $500. Sell ads at $50 per page for another $600. Subtract out anything for the "models" and you're probably in the $750 range. You could sell more if you walked around campus or the NASA paddock saying "Buy an MM calendar of boobies to help us raise cash." and push that up over $1000.

IMO, it would be worth the effort if you broke even. It's fun, there are hot chicks, it's good experience for business types and everyone gets a cool calendar. Making $1000 for the club by having fun? Umm, sure.

Probably the most realistic sales model. Hit up the AI paddock after the drinks start flowing, and watch the calendars move...

FWIW, old guys love breasts just as much as we do... and $20 is NOTHING to them.

Take a pile to a NASA awards banquet? Free money.

Set up a booth at Hyperfest? Super free money.

This is an excellent point. I propose the following:

Start planning now. Figure out calendar size, cost, and start initial "seed fund" for defraying costs. This gives us an opportunity to get ducks, models, cars, and advertisers all in a row. Start shooting in the spring, so that a 2013 calendar is available at hyperfizzy, and can be sold for a good six months following.

I wouldn't mind an email reminder on dues/donations request - how much do you alums typically give? I don't want to look like a cheap bastard.
Also, is there a better time of year to give - alums can give prior to start of the school year, before new members are recruited, perhaps a time when funds get low (or lower) and some flow would help?

Also in for helping with the seed money to get the calendar going. I was skeptical, but have been turned.
