For what it's worth, my roommate has an Integra (RS) up here for the second year in a row. No issues parking it at Pheasant Run. His brother's early 90s Civic got broken into for the radio twice over in Madison Square.

I was worried with the Miata being a soft top that is very easily sliced through. It's one layer of vinyl. Really, I think if you make sure you don't leave anything worth stealing in plain sight, that'll help with 90% of it. Obviously stealing wheels/the whole car is different. Ben's RS has the steelies with hubcaps, far less desirable than the LS/GS-R rimzz or aftermarket.

I also had Andrew's LS up here for a week and parked it at P-Run with no issues. His is more attention-grabbing but it was OK.

Just watch where you park, some complexes are better than others Smile

Welcome to the Club and a great looking teg'! I'll vouch that if you need somewhere to store your car for a semester I have plenty of parking right behind my house downtown... We hosted a BBQ with at least 10+ cars there... Once again welcome and we look forward to seeing you at the meetings and events!

Since the theft thing came up I might as well throw in that my sisters civic si had her spoiler stolen her freshmen year at JMU and her wheels stolen another year.. Would be scared to have a honda.. But.. im sure youll be just fine.

thanks!! and yeah sometimes it does suck. i'm always so nervous when i leave it anywhere. i had these two guys come up to me when i was getting into my car back where i live and asked if it was a type r (obviously not) i told them no and that it was an LS (it's a gsr but they gave me the creeps) and they still followed me for about 10 miles. i sometimes think about selling it but i've put so much into it to stop now. just gotta upgrade security and get me a bowie knife Wink haha

yeah im nervous about my exterior being torn apart- sidemarkers, itr wing, koseis, oem fogs, etc. but i guess it's a risk you have to take. and yeah, andrew told me about keeping his teg up here. ill feel much safer when i have my apartment and can check out the window every once in awhile Wink and yeah, im staying out of the commons for awhile. 2 of my friends got their windows busted in, i got my qp keyed, and my friend's m3 coupe got its hood smashed in.

My roommate plowed into my left-front fender and driver's door on a bike 3 weeks after we got to school. Its just the facts of life living in a college town really. I'm going to fix it over winter break. Next year I'm living in charleston townes with Ken, which is nice and far from school and errant bicycles. Who's your friend with an M3 coupe? Smile

Re: Shanna M. - balactm - 12-02-2009

security tip for honda = make it look like hell, i.e. my car. then no one will want to steal it.

those tips don't help :-P

don't keep anything of value in or on the car and get good insurance coverage - go ahead, ask me how i know... :?

i'll save you the trouble of asking:

Re: Shanna M. - Lov3myDC2 - 12-02-2009

^wow :/ that makes me even more nervous haha. i feel like i may just keep her back home where she's safe until i have the security i want and can have her at my own apartment complex outside of my window lol

i didn't really want to scare you, but it's just reality. i actually never had an incident in harrisonburg when i was there with the Si for 3 years, but i had alarms, kill switches, etc. and it never really stopped thieves in the DC area. Hell, i even went so far as to have a steering wheel with a quick release hub, put the steering wheel in the trunk, took the rear seat pull tabs out and locked them in the glove box....and they still broke into the car to steal quarters from my change compartment... (see incident #7)

in my history i've found that the more i did to deter a thief, the worse my situation was because there was more damage to fix. i didn't even report all of those incidents to the police because the damage or amount stolen was less then my deductible (which was dumb, i should've reported it anyway), but i was happy to have a functional car to drive home in.

in your situation i would just try not to attract too much attention and possibly even use a car-cover when parked for an extended period of time. again, just don't leave anything of value in the car and carry atleast comprehensive insurance on it. i say bring the car - after all you do have the car to enjoy it.

Move to north 38 and get a garage, problem solved. I can't tell you how much stress it has relieved not having to worry about your car all the time (especially after living in the devon lane area)

Re: Shanna M. - G.Irish - 12-02-2009

*Sigh* I loved my DC2 GS-R I had while I was in school. Did a lot of track days and autocrosses with it, and never had a problem with theft or anything at JMU (I lived in Sunchase). But what happened? It got stolen in Lorton while I was traveling for work =( That incident ruined my automotive life. Or at least, it was an excuse for me to get into bikes...

Anyway, cool GS-R, I hope you get to take it out to autox and do a few track days with it. I had a blast with mine and it was totally stock save for tires and brake pads.

EDIT: Actually some moron tried to steal my VTEC badge but ended up breaking it. It said OHC TEC from that day on.

Re: Shanna M. - Lov3myDC2 - 12-02-2009

^yeah, i mean i got the car in order to have fun with it. so i'm going to upgrade the security like i said and bring it up. i don't really have any plans for the exterior for awhile besides the itr lip i'm getting for christmas. the rest of my time is going to suspension. but i hope nothing happens to her next year when i have her up here. and yeah, i wish i knew north 38 had garages before i signed my lease or else i would have tried to get my roommates to go there haha.

Tight. I'm a bit late on this thread but, those wheels look good. Jake, you should definitely look onto those.
Hope to see your car at an AutoX and see you at the meetings.

Welcome.
