Evan Wrote:just curious why the site was down earlier today?
was giving a sql connection error, was the site not closing its open connections?

No idea why the site was down earlier. I happened to catch it on my lunch break at work and did what I could to bring it back up. Resetting the databases through PHP MyAdmin worked after two attempts. I think we are on a shared server with other folks, so it's not necessarily our site causing issues. Some Googling showed that the specific error we had was related to too many SQL connections at once.

As far as Quick Reply, it's not 100% implemented yet. I'm in the process of messing with that and the auto-picture-resizer thingy.

YAAAY!

I was ninja-ing around behind the site and I saw the option to make avatars different sizes...could we possibly bump them up from 80x80 to say 100 or 120 pixels? IMO they're a bit small...I think the old site was unrestricted, but I'm a pic whore and if nobody else wants sig pics at least let me have ballin avatar pics! Thoughts?

I still vote no sig pics. That is like the least classy thing you can do on a website

its rare, but I agree with Deersty

some other things I've noticed:
When clicking links, it should open a new tab or window but it doesn't.
URLs are hacked up unless you use the URL tags.
The quick reply box only shows up in a few of the subforum's threads.
Smilies show up as text when quoted.

+1 For no sig pics.

Sig pics are gay. When we were young, we used asciiart in our sigs and we liked it!

Re: Forum upgrade - give me input! - BLINGMW - 06-18-2009

80x80 is enough for me, though I wouldn't cry if it was changed to 100x100. It wouldn't make the left bar any bigger, though the date and specific TIME that each person joined seems like a silly reason to have that left bar be so wide.
no sig pics!

so is ascii art. can we get rid of it, please?

Re: Forum upgrade - give me input! - Goodspeed - 06-18-2009

I didn't say I wanted sig pics, just that I understand no one else does so I want bigger avatars! Jesus!

O rly? I fixed the Link In New Window and URL tag dealies. What browser are you using? It works for me on Safari and Firefox. Haven't tried IE 8 yet because Firefox is freely available Big Grin Although I do understand some of y'all have no choice but to use IE at work, so I'll look into compatibility.

Sig pics won't happen... I like them but too many people cheese it up too much. I can make avatars larger - dunno if members will have to re-size them or if the forum will re-do it for us. I think 100x100 is a good size. I can delete the joined time but the date is staying.

In general, how is compatibility on Windows machines and IE/Firefox? I tested things on Win XP and 7 when the redesign was new, but haven't checked some of the newer mods and stuff.

Anything else? Keep in mind I won't be able to do much in the next two days - iPhone 3G S launch is happening tomorrow and I will be working 10-12 hour days tomorrow and Saturday.
