great job on the paint covers!

i'm surprised lotus didn't go the small extra mile to bling up the engine bay

- Mike - 02-06-2009

everything looks great. before i had even read what others had said, i thought to myself "painting those covers could make him some serious money."

DO IT!

working on doing a full mesh conversion for the crappy stock plastic bits.
My preconditions were that the clams couldnt be removed, everything had to be reversible, no new holes could be drilled, and no tape could be used. I am using the XXL hex mesh from customcargrills. So far I have came finished the front and am almost done with the side vents.

The front bolts on to the bottom holes, and has welded on tabs that pop into the stock grill brackets. The tow cutout is made from aluminum (I tried to make it as stock exigelike as possible)...

Here are the side scoops I'm working on. It is a total pain to fill in the top hole that the slats leave. I fiber glassed it shut and then smoothed it with filler. The XXL mesh is really hard to bend around the tight curves of the scoops, I almost gave up and used smaller mesh, but I really wanted to have the same mesh throughout the car so I finally got it on using hours of bending and epoxy resin. They are not done yet, hopefully tomorrow they will be on the car. Stay tuned for the radiator, oil cooler and engine cover grills...

nice!

I seriously wish I could pull off custom car details like these, pretty awesome. Keep us updated.

- Madden - 02-20-2009

finally got the right side vent on the car and I am in love with the look. It was a pain to get it perfectly smoothed and fitted but I got it on. Cant wait to get the LH vent on now.
I went with satin black and it fits perfect, check out the difference compared to stock...

- Madden - 02-26-2009

here are a few updates.
I ended up having to grind out the oil cooler grill brackets and adding the mesh.
finished up both side scoops and am in the process of smoothing the radiator plastic...

+1

Looks absolutely awesome man! If you ever want to do a photoshoot I would love to get something together! Great work so far!

- Madden - 02-27-2009

ya I'm definitely down for a photoshoot when I'm all done
The very front mesh looks a little jacked up right now, I may redo it. Also I almost wrecked today. First day I drove it in a couple weeks and went a little crazy. Going down resevoir past copper beach the roads get nice and windy. I didnt realize I was going 80 into a turn and got the backend out pretty nice. It scared the %$^ out of me!

- WRXtranceformed - 02-27-2009

Ugh man please be careful! Wrecking that thing puts a serious stain on your insurance record. Trust me I'm speaking from experience.

- Madden - 02-27-2009

finished up the radiator grills and engine grills and also got the diffuser back from being powdercoated. The radiator grills were a bitch to fiberglass and smooth! After I finished them black paint wasnt looking that great, so I found a place that sprays plastic coating and it ended up getting the finish I was looking for.

I also parked at dukes to get some pasta this afternoon and a brand new GTR roles up right in front of me! The guy driving it was pretty cool and said he also owns an espirit. I forgot to ask him if he lived around here and wanted to come to the car show though

I have yet to see this thing, but it looks like you're creepin' the parking deck when no one is around Tongue You need to autocross it...come to Verona!

- Madden - 03-22-2009

i was actual planning on signing up for verona but i got a pretty bad concussion on wednesday and am still feeling pretty crappy.

- ScottyB - 03-22-2009

its pretty sweet to see that orange engine cover peeking out from those hood grills. looks good!
