- Kaan - 07-06-2004 i have a sparco neck thing... i dont use it... years of riding motorcycles gets you used to helmets on your head for long periods of time Re: Race Gear - white_2kgt - 07-06-2004 Chris Wrote:Any good websites for race gear? My b-day is around the corner and I'm trying to figure out what to get. Originally I thought a helmet and neck collar, but I may lean towards cheap wheels/tires. So basically whats a good helmet and collar and a place to find them. Price of Wheels/Tires == Price for Helmet and collar??? damn I hate 17x9's sometime  -c - GQROB - 07-07-2004 I thought that the neck collars are for safety in the event of an impact? They limit the head from over tilting in an impact, limiting the possibility of neck injury. I'm pretty sure they do little to none for safety. - Evan - 07-07-2004 GQROB Wrote:I thought that the neck collars are for safety in the event of an impact? Its not going to do anything but compress to nothing in a 10g decelleration. The same reason why the foam (non-SFI) rollbar padding is useless. In fact it could be said that they are adding more harm since they are adding more mass attatched to your head. May not seem like much but in a 10g decelleration, that 2lb neck brace exerts and extra 20lbs of force directly on your neck, in addition to the other forces already fucking your ass up  (yes that is the technical term for it) - .RJ - 07-07-2004 What if the impact(s) is less than 10G? I get *alot* less neck fatigue over a weekend or when karting when I wear the collar. I've gotten clocked from the backside a few times while karting, and never gotten a sore neck afterwards as long as I have the collar on. |
