Bah, character is overrated. Get an NSX for the same or cheaper price, enjoy top notch reliability in your mid engined supercar. If it makes any difference, no one would think of you as a douchebag in the process

Derecola is a eurowhore.

Nobody would think you're a D for driving an NSX? I know a lot of people that think differently Smile

- Apoc - 07-18-2007

Let's see if I can address everything...

-I think the NSX is highly overrated. It's what Honda fanbois aspire to because it's the pinnacle of their brand. That and I think they're kinda ugly.

-I'm already a Porsche douchebag if you will. I got my race license in PCA and my first track event was in my grandfather's '67 911 so I don't really care about being associated with them. That and every luxary car brand has those people.

-I absolutely must drive it in the winter but I did 3 winters with my M3 without any real issue. (Shaddup RJ!)

-911s are known for leaking all the time but a catastrophic rms failure is a whole 'nother ballgame.

-My dad thinks I should get a 993. Old cars scare me as a DD.

-Boxster. God. Awful. Ugly. Period.

I think that's everything.

Not so if you've mostly been in older ones, those guys are usually ok, a totally different group. But the latest and greatest crowd is hopeless. A 993 would at least be a slight step in the right direction, some chance for salvation. But if you have a problem buying older cars than what you have now.... :dunno: Well I barely know you anyway, I guess I should just keep my fool mouth shut because my tastes are clearly worlds different than yours.

GL in your decision!

Thank you - finally somebody that shares my sentiments. Way overpriced for what you get, especially considering the non-avantgarde technology associated with it. The other car in this category that everybody swoons over is the Supra Turbo...

While I like 993s, I concur with your concerns over their reliability. Plus driving one in the summer in traffic is a bone job with it being air-cooled as they like to overheat...

Goodspeed just died a little inside

- John - 07-18-2007

And another note, the NSX is not a supercar...

Maybe you missed this...

Apoc Wrote:I have this stupid thing where every car I buy has to be newer than the last.

The NSX is cool but the later cars are just too much $$ for what you get, and the older ones are still selling for almost as much as a 996 ($25-30k). They're cool, and obtainable, but the older models are now 15 years old.

Just carpool with the wife when it snows - that happens 4 days a year around here. Your foglights will be safe.

- Maengelito - 07-18-2007

fuck it, just buy the damn car. porsches are hot and i'll own a 911 someday. as for which model, who knows as i'm nowhere close to being able to afford one right now.

i dont think this thread is so much a "what car should i get" as it is a "should i buy a porsche or nothing". and i think that alex ratcliffe's dad said it best (in his very thick british accent) when i was instructing him at summit last year: "the boxster is a bit of a 'hairdresser's' car, isnt it?"

If only . . .

hrmm. it's too bad it's not like 10 years ago. I painted a house for a guy who had one of those that was parked half in, half out of a garage. Motor siezed, and it sat there like that for years and years. I probably could've bought it for less than 10% of that price.

- Evan - 07-18-2007

the 356 doesnt do much for me. its just a riced out VW bug.

Chris, either you get it now, or you wait until you're retired, which by that case they will be real old. I would go for it now. What does the wife say?

I don't miss you, Mikey.

- Andy - 07-20-2007

Damn. That's harsh.

- Ginger - 07-20-2007
