- DierwulfBL - 09-15-2005 kanye west is the whitest black man ever to rap.......that's why white kids like his music. I liked college drop out, I downloaded this cd 3 days ago and i can't say im too impressed. After he rips it on diamonds(and the remix) i feel that the rest of the songs were a lyrical let down, besides the game rips it way better on the diamonds from the sierra leone beat in 300 bars and running better than kanye ever could. Also, i agree with what mike is saying about american youth buying hip hop for it's catchy beats. It's more hip-POP nowadays than anything else, i can't honestly say i've liked any new rap cds that have come out (most over the summer were southern rappers which can "chop and screw" themselves). Go truely "thug" and go get The Game mixtape - ghost unit. and oh yea.........American Idiot for life - Feersty - 09-15-2005 I mean I am a big fan of underground hip hop as well, it is just that I really like this album. Although kanYe is chomping from a lot of typical jazz beats that have found their way into underground hip hop, like he uses Curtis Mayfield's Move On Up in Touch The Sky Atmosphere, Skillz, Ruth Babe all kill it in my book. - Sijray21 - 09-15-2005 Feersty Wrote:I mean I am big fan of underground hip hop as well gangstarr was always my favorite  - Jeff - 09-15-2005 There is some cool stuff out there that isn't main-stream. I listen to the hip-hop stations on XM and there is a lot of good artists who don't have major names or contracts...yet. - DierwulfBL - 09-15-2005 immortal technique, best rappers out right now. Whenever i played their cds at parties we threw soooo many people would be like "who the hell is this, it's awesome". If you guys wanna check it out, start out by listening to "dance with the devil" really powerful song, itll make you wanna hear more of them. - Mike - 09-15-2005 dance with the devil, eh? that was a techno song that was pretty hot a few years back. it was by d-devil and i think it was called judgement day or the 6th gate... anyway, we played that all the time at parties but it definitely wasn't hip hop

Should be dope, the new CD drops in October too.. Back to Seven Travels stylez! - Feersty - 09-15-2005 navin Wrote:Rob.. Nah man I didn't even know about it. Where is he gonna be? I would love to go though. - navin - 09-15-2005 9:30 club - HAULN-SS - 09-15-2005 haha..that place is in the freaking ghetto - .RJ - 09-15-2005 HAULN-SS Wrote:haha..that place is in the freaking ghetto Some of the best shows i've ever been to were held there - KPWSerpiente - 09-16-2005 Jesus, Jordan...why you trying to validate this thread? They were having a good time discussing everything but the topic and you got to bring it on track...and now I got to say something because I'm a thread killer...one more post from me and this thread is gone. Firstly...Mike really needs to listen to the first album again. That way he can wade through track after track of Kanye not saying a damn word about white people. I think he mentions them once, if at all. He does mention his distaste for the police on multiple occasions. Maybe that's what you were thinking about. Second...Andy needs to reconsider whom he is calling uneducated. Kanye dropped out of college (a disappointment to his mother who holds a PhD) to try and make it big as a producer in the music industry. And guess what...he is fucking huge now. How long would you have stayed in school if you could instead, start doing exactly what you want to do, be at the top of the game, and make the kind of money he is making now. What an uneducated move on his part, huh. He had to beg to be allowed to rap by the companies he worked for because as Jordan points out...he is from the fucking suburbs and never hustled a day in his life. No one thought he would sell based on his background. He owns more polo shirts than the average UVA frat boy. Jordan also points out the painful truth about his skills...his flow is weak. I think it is mostly because he broke his jaw and simply cannot spit the faster more metered rhymes... but hey, he might have sucked just the same before the accident. I've never heard anything he rapped on from before that time. Sadly Jordan is once again dead on...mainstream hip hop is about the beat...not about the message or skills. If you could hear the words to Get Low you'd kill yourself...but damn, what a hot beat and hook. I'll argue Eminem as the best in the business right now (please ignore his last album) because he has a message whether you like it or not, he has good musical production and usually a solid hoook...and his skills and writing ability are top notch. He lures you into his album with a couple radio singles but usually pushes a more mature track at you should you take the time to listen to an album. As for Kanye, he has sold mad records because his production skills are genuinely genius and he started with big time industry connections. He was pushing beats for the top rappers before and after he released College Dropout because they are that damn good. His flow might be weak, but he can be witty and his slow, choppy rhymes are easily heard. He is a huge contradiction in terms of background and message and that sets him apart from your average rapper. White people love him because white people love rap. There really isn't anything extraordinary there. -T PS....if you think the 9:30 club is ghetto you need check yourself. It is one of the better venues in the area, in my opinion. - Mike - 09-16-2005 travis in the heeeezie! good post, consider me somewhat more educated on hip hop i stick by my guns... kanye pretends he hates white people. - Feersty - 09-18-2005 Great post Travis. I learned a lot. - .RJ - 09-19-2005 KPWSerpiente Wrote:How long would you have stayed in school if you could instead, start doing exactly what you want to do, be at the top of the game, and make the kind of money he is making now. Anyways.... i watched part of some 30 min interview show w/ him on MTV while flipping channels today, and damn he is one arrogant bastard. - Maengelito - 09-19-2005 good god, how come there hasnt been a "sm0ke w33d everd4y" pic of the legomen posted yet. this thread hurts my brain which is why i bring it back to the top - Andy - 09-19-2005 KPWSerpiente Wrote:Second...Andy needs to reconsider whom he is calling uneducated. What an uneducated move on his part, huh. Uneducated is uneducated. He didn't even know about blood diamonds until this year for god's sakes. A whole lot of people make a whole lot of money, doesn't mean they're educated. Suge Knight, Master P are two good examples. Kanye sucks. Pharoah Monche, Talib Kweli and Mos Def are real MC's. Travis, you're what 19,20. Please consider that you may not know everything, and others may know a little more than you give them credit for. Stick to talking shit about your car. - Feersty - 09-19-2005 .RJ Wrote:Anyways.... i watched part of some 30 min interview show w/ him on MTV while flipping channels today, and damn he is one arrogant bastard. Yeah I saw that too with Sway, They both care about no one but themselves. Definitely indicative of the MTV generation. - KPWSerpiente - 09-19-2005 Be serious Andy. If you think you need to know about how diamonds get from Africa to here, and about all the turmoil in between to be educated...well fuck...I guess I'm uneducated. The new term is 'conflic' diamonds, fyi. I didn't say Kanye was a real MC...I said he has a gift for musical production. Which is true. I said his first album doesn't hate on white people. Which is true. And you stated that Pharoah is a real MC. Don't make me point out how untrue that is. -T |
