well the point of the post wasnt to sturr up feelings of illegal activities.. the point of my post was to share some photos of people tearing it up. i thought they were cool pics that people would enjoy.. end of story

ok, my quick synopsis of this thread:
1) Drifiting is fun
2) Shit happens, ditches pop up on sides of roads, busted drift-mobiles break
3) The club doesn't encourage people to do stupid shit on public roads and will not engage in such activities
4) With permission from property owners, this event has every right to exist as any other event at a track.
5) There ought to more events that cost less money. Perhaps we, as MM, can arrange for that by contacting local properties.
6) We may want to re-think our "image" as a club to make sure we are consistent on all aspects.
7) Shit happens at autoX and track events too. We'll never be able to negate all risks, can only prepare for them.
So, if you want to drift or drive like a wildman, the best thing to do is find an old peice of asphalt and talk to the owner, simple as that. Stupid driving on the street is just that and there are more than enough dumbasses driving around as it is. In all cases, keeping your mind about you will help out a lot. Most importantly, we don't want to risk any foul shit happening to us or our club, so we aren't able to endorse these events (unsanctioned) but we can certainly enjoy pictures and stories if one of our members goes or participates. I've got a few fucked up stories and the MM police haven't come down on my yet to remind me that I'm a dumbass :-).

Well dude you gotta keep in mind that a lot of us have been around this stuff for a while. Over the years it's gotten much harder to try and host a legal event due to all the illegal stuff that people participate in. So when we see pictures of stuff like this where it looks as if it might be an illegal event quite a few of us will chime in.
Numerous illegal events = cops cracking down
Cops cracking down = insurance providers take notice
Insurance providers take notice = higher rates to insure legal events
Higher rates to insure legal events = higher entry fees & less events
Higher entry fees & less events = more jackasses participating in illegal events.
In the end, the same jackasses that complain about the cost of legal events, and therefore participate in illegal events, are the cause for the reasons they complain about.

just MY OPINION, as I am a car enthusiast, but wasting money on my car isn't priority if im broke. My mazda will be stock, and running the the stock class till It's payed off and I can comfortably pay for little parts. but otherwise stock is the way to go when broke.

damn, got here late...
drifting is fun but unless its a legal and sanctioned event, it cant be associated with the club. we've worked pretty hard to get our club associated with legitimacy but it'll only take one bad thing to happen to smear the MM name. that being said, if you want to drift on your own, then keep it away from me. even if you had the owner's permission, and it was in a private lot, there's still a strong possibility that when sliding sideways and going off into ditches that you roll your car over. track events have EV, EMTs, and firetrucks all on call ready to go. some of these n00bs should get out to the track to get a feeling for other racers and see firsthand that our most important priority is safety.

member, yes. had class or something during meeting times. He's been and worked at a couple track events, so I think he understands the safety aspect of track and organized events.

Um, I don't see how Blair's attendance would be relevant. If he comes to all of the meetings or none of the meetings he is still a member. If he weren't a member no one would have said anything.
At any rate I hope this isn't coming across as the older guys being nazis or anything. Its a touchy subject for many because we went through a lot of shit over the years over 'risk' and 'liability'. If people seem overzealous its not because they're trying to hate on anyone, its just that people care about the club. This is nothing against drifting in general its more about like Matt said, the perception of motorsports and the continual battle against the powers that be.

yes im a PAID member... starting this year.. last yea i never really knew about MM. I happen to have class weds night right when meeting are.. and I will continue to have weds night classes next semester... so no meetings for me.. maybe ill skip a class or 2

it completely is commin across at the older guys being nazis..i dont know really any of you and you dont know me.. i can understand how there is alot of young guys who dont know shit that join and come on here.. but that isnt the case with me. when i first came on the forum last year i read a few posts.. you guys really come off harsh.. thats one of the reasons i wasnt interested in joining last year.. but then i met some of you and its cool.
