just say no to b00st

seriously though, ^^^^ what mike just said, and Ill add -- more power is pointless in HPDE, especially when you are starting out. (and lets be honest here, if you really wanted a fun track rocket, it wouldnt be a crx or any fwd honda product for that matter) Put that money into a consistent, solid, safe car. And whatever else put into track time.

maybe the only thing i'll do, in the near future, is in stall the afc and put it back on the dyno to see if i cant get it to run healthier. i think i do want to build a d series H1 style motor for some retarded day when i actually can "race". BUT its not going to be any time soon since that bottom end was just reworked and i'm not about to foot the bill for it to be cracked open twice.

i'm tracking down a used full bolt in for the crx... 2 evo2s... even if they are in RJ blue. obivously harnesses fit into that whole equation. after reading the homemade turbo website stuff... i'm not b00sting this pile i dont think... espeically not any time soon. i mean you have to realize i still have a koni/gc setup at home that isnt on the car. my ideas never generate into instant results.

even if the crx turning into a full out "race car" its not like it matter what class i'm in .... i'm gonna get rolled! i'm building up slow  i just have tons of parts to play with when i want to.

I'd disagree on the turbo Honda thing. Of course poorly put together and poorly tuned aftermarket turbo cars are not going to last on track. Hell, most turbo RX-7's have trouble with reliability on track. But I guess since most people don't take the time to properly tune their cars, aftermarket turbo apps are for most purposes unreliable for the track. As a side note, we saw a lot of this in H1 last year: people going for big power but doing it wrong and grenading what would otherwise be reliable engines.

I think part of the reason you don't see many turbo Hondas is that there are plenty of N/A options to make decent power and the cars are light to begin with. Also, having much more than 300 hp in a fwd car starts to cause handling problems.

I would say don't add more power early in the game but its your call on how much you can handle. I bought Geeser 1 cause it had enough power to be a challenge and I didn't feel like I needed to upgrade it until I had been in group 3 for awhile.

I think a high compression D16A6..... which some people on HT say is a better build over all then any ZC top bottom combo can reliably put down 160 to the wheels... saying i take it back and use the dynopack 3000 again. they say the head flow on the A6 head is the best of the D series... and properly built with the zc pistons you can have a very quick machine... and with a built head you can reliably rev to 8k. its a motor with less weight then the B20/vtec... but it will be down on power and tq. and my only real premiss for doing it is because no one else has one. I'm sure a much more experienced driver could be a consistant middle of the pack in H1 kinda driver.

and honestly i dont mind building what i have. its not like i'm going to be racing soon. and even if its not the car to race... i could sell it... be it at a loss, to someone for an HPDE car or something.

Super D motor!!! You can get more compression than the ZC pistons Wink

Do it!!

- Kaan - 10-18-2004

you get more power from the A6 top and bottom with ZC pistons then any other combinations with the Ds

- .RJ - 10-18-2004

So, more compression = less power?

- Kaan - 10-18-2004

under the rules the ZC pistons are legal and generate the most compression... yes compression = power.... but the best build seems to be with the A6 top and bottom... it seems to produce the best overall results even though it doesnt produce the highest compression. though you can within the rules produce TONS of compression with the motor non the less... decking and head gaskets that is.

- .RJ - 10-18-2004

You can get more compression with other pistons, i believe. It is legal to notch pistons for valve clearance. Why are you worried about rules anyways, it wont be an H1 car.

- Kaan - 10-18-2004

you are telling me that a d16a6 with zc pistons is legal for H4?

- .RJ - 10-18-2004

You cant produce "tons" of compression with an H4 legal motor. There is a service limit for decking the block and head, and it aint much. You cant use a thinner head gasket than stock. And on top of all that, it specified you can only gain an extra .5:1 in compression ratio no matter what you do anyways.

You were talking about ZC pistons, which would be H1, but its my understanding you can get even higher compression with other pistons - just probably cant drive it on pump gas. Why are you worrying with HC rules?

- Kaan - 10-18-2004

cause i'm a ricer and i wana be cool

i dont ask you why you have blue seats do i? sheesh... maybe one day i dream of being a race kaaa driver in HC... so i can rollNr!

you did ask why i worried about the rules

Because....

GSR pummels crxs.... i have to make up for my lack of tallent

- G.Irish - 10-19-2004

See Oscar for that one. He a bad ass in a CRX with r-tires and Konis.

- Kaan - 10-19-2004

Gerald... shhhhhh i'm feeling the need for a ricer crutch
