Hangovers. Such intentions are easily forgotten the morning after you run out of beer and decide to see what liquor-pong is all about. Not justifying it, just answering the how. Its still no excuse. Sorry ass excuse. Jesus people. What happened..? Not an excuse. If I recall my sorry ass once puked, drove the 30 minutes, passed out in my backseat until my heat, then drove the crap out of my car and worked the last heat. AWESOME DAY. EDIT: God I wish I could make another. So far away
Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - JPolen01 - 10-14-2013 I'll tell you why no one has signed up. Y'all are going to be mad but whatever. Auto cross is not that appealing. Personally I don't see the enjoyment in it and I think that's the problem others have too. Flinging your car around a parking lot full of cones (although possibly beneficial to your car control skills) is not exciting for 30 seconds at a time. Couple that with the fact that you then have to go stand and pick up cones for way more time than you got to drive and you have a recipe for unenthusiastic people. I know there are a lot of people that enjoy autox so I'm not knocking it at all, just stating another opinion/side you may not realize. Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - JustinG - 10-14-2013 Then come spectate. You're still standing around in a parking lot, so it shouldn't be too foreign of a territory. Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - Jake - 10-14-2013 I totally realize it, Jon. I also totally realize how nobody came to VIR except Samantha. Who, by the way, rode in every car she wanted to and had a goddamn blast. And we bought rounds of drinks, the food was free, etc. I just... if you really claim to be an enthusiast and SAY how much you are excited to come out and meet people, see what this motorsports thing is all about, etc., whether you're gonna drive or not, then fucking put it on your calendar and show up when you say you will. It's just not that hard. Projects and exams don't just "come up" last minute. These events have been on the calendar since January. The officers have (presumably) been sharing dates ahead of time. We shared the entire semester at the first meeting. Learn to plan, people. Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - V1GiLaNtE - 10-14-2013 Jake Wrote:Learn to plan, people. QFT. Or you'll find you ass on the curb with all your stuff from your cube....or place of residence Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - ispoonwithmugen - 10-14-2013 So what I'm hearing from everyone from different colleges is that it's there fall break and they are going home (which should be even more easy to go to since they don't have classes). So I'm not sure. CCVT said they may have good attendance but Ben (their pres) said that a lot may flake, so I can't even get a good number. As for our people, I can't seem to let them know how much fun just getting out there is. I have Ray coming down on Wednesday and I'm sure he will amp it up with his presentation. Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-15-2013 I don't think we should be bashing them, we just have to get them out there. Some people will enjoy it, some will not. But geeze, if you never try something, you will never know. It's $35 and a day of your time, I remember many a wasted weekend in college just drinking all weekend, spending more money and time... If you don't like it, that's fine. The car culture has many avenues which we entertain in this club. Car show for those who are just about appearances, and the track/autox stuff for those who enjoy the driving. Maybe wrench days for those who just enjoy tinkering
Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - rherold9 - 10-15-2013 Well Im registering right now and I have no clue what I'm doing so let's see how this turns out. Can we not put MM as our club? I just put Blue Ridge for now. Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - ViPER1313 - 10-15-2013 Signed up last night... Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - Sully - 10-15-2013 I agree that I no longer enjoy autocross. Not enough seat time to work time or time spent there in a day. 4 minutes of seat time to all day spent there, but I loved it as a freshman. That was my first MM event and it was awesome to be able to get off campus and beat on someone else's car, even if he did show up 30 minutes late and passed out in the back seat of it :dunno: I guess it need to be sold more to the current members that it really is something they NEED to try :dunno: Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk now Free Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - rherold9 - 10-15-2013 Am I able to still run Novice class even with mods? (Coilovers, rear sway bar, and intake). Stock sized tires that are all-seasons. Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - JustinG - 10-15-2013 Yes. Novice is experience not mods. Fixed my class, I went full retard on signing up. Got it now. Y'all are going to be mad but whatever. You do realize the name of the Club is Madison Motorsports right? The club has been straying from that for an alarming bit now. The Alumni and older guys (like my old grumpy ass) seem to be the only people out there on the track or autocross keeping it alive. These Alumni and older guys were also burning tires when they were students and showed up the track/course hangover and final exam be damned (Studied less for a Spanish exam and got an FTD instead...best decision EVER! Still got a B in that class). I remember when Cody and Jake drove back all night from a Spring Break Beach Vacation to autocross with NO SLEEP. Plan, organize, promote and make those sales/entry numbers because those skills might help you in your future career. For those of you who are getting out there and getting new blood in the game please ignore everything I typed above. We've all had a first autocross so we're willing to help and don't worry how you finish (I sucked my first year and eventually worked my way through the field...humility is your friend). Rherold9, Novice would be perfect for your first few events. It puts all the folks with less than 1 yr experience together and rates them by pax score first to last. Only catch is that once you win Novice you have to compete with your normal class as you've graduated from being a noob. Your run group though will be with whatever base class you're in (ex: HS or GS) as we only separate run groups by base class. Oh and...bring sunblock. Working the track or BS'ing in the paddock often results massive sunburn. It may simply be that a lot of people just aren't really driving enthusiasts. They may like cars, but haven't really gotten into the actual driving of said cars. The way I see autox is it's a gateway. It's cheap, it's low risk, and in the case of Verona you don't have to go far to try it out. You do some autocrosses to get a feel for driving, then you try some of the other stuff like karting or tracking. You get some car control skills out of it, and you get some light competition too. I agree that the time you spend at an autocross can be a drag after awhile, which is why I got into track events. But you'll be a lot more successful on track if you autocross first, and it's a good way to try out what it feels like to drive as hard as you can. Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - rherold9 - 10-16-2013 Thanks, DLingenfelter. I'll switch my class back again haha. But, honestly Jon is right. Some things aren't appealing to others. Some people like different things. Some people want to go to a lot of events, some people don't really care, some people don't have time, some people have last minute plans come up they have to go to, some people don't want to drive or even be driven to events far away or even close, some people in general are really in to the club. Everyone has different preferences. We have been promoting all events pretty good and have had great attendance to even classroom meets where last year it was pretty slim. This club isn't dead I'm just confused about what is going on as well. People stop being so grumpy. The alumni are grumpy because we don't live on/near campus (with the exception of Rex & Julie) so we don't get the chance to meet students unless they come to events. Namely, autocross, track weekends, and go-karting. When I was a student, I went to some events and discovered how cool the alumni were. They wanted to share stories of hoonery, talk about shitty old cars we've all owned, "that one time Pete launched his F-150 over a snowbank to run from the 5-0", give rides in their cars, and buy me some drinks at the VIR Tavern. You have no idea how much us "new alumni" would like to do that. It's a pay-it-forward sort of thing. And if nobody shows up, we can't. I bought a round of drinks at the tavern on Friday night for the MMers. It was $39, and that's because I bought Maeng and Cande shots as well. Maybe this'll be some better insight as to why we want y'all out. We just want to see who's excited about cars, because most of the world isn't these days. Dinner on Saturday at Quaker Steak, 6 PM. Be 'dere. Re: BRR-SCCA College Challenge Auto-X: Oct. 20th @ Verona - JustinG - 10-16-2013 Jake wanna split one of those giant beer tower things? Natural Light preferred. |
