Lost power, the house is shaking from the wind, although no trees down so far (knock on wood.) I am kicking myself for not fixing my generator right now.

:? you guys slow that thing down some before it gets to Roanoke please

Re: Ready for this Sandy Bitch? - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-29-2012

A little wind and a little rain is all I have seen here in Reston. Still have full power, but we have underground power so I didnt expect to lose it.

I cant beleive the Fed closed down for 2 days because of this, I would have preferred to go to work. There are other regions that are getting it much worse and I hope everyone is okay. Oh well, took the time to relax, get some sleep, and pulled the head off the m3.

Re: Ready for this Sandy Bitch? - Jake - 10-29-2012

Power has flickered a little, but stayed on. We are fine aside from our one large front window leaking:

All is well in the burg. Classes haven't been cancelled yet and I am drunk. This might be a problem. Oh well that is a problem for Jon to deal with tomorrow.

Re: Ready for this Sandy Bitch? - HAULN-SS - 10-30-2012

Cable went out in Falls Church. That was it. I also agree about it being dumb the government shut down. Oh well, traffic was easy these last two days!

Roanoke City and County schools canceled today. And I see the DMV is closed, don't know what other gov stuff is closed. Because it was kinda windy last night and 20MPH winds this morning. And something like 2% of people don't have power. :dunno:

Well thanks for taking the brunt of it NJ!

Re: Ready for this Sandy Bitch? - Evan - 10-30-2012

ceiling started leaking last night....the first floor ceiling...tell me how that is possible (no plumbing above it or on that side of the house)

other than that and the river in my backyard we are good

Im really annoyed that I have to miss a 2nd day of work for this

Re: Ready for this Sandy Bitch? - CaptainHenreh - 10-30-2012

The Derecho was like eleventy times worse than this here in the valley. This was a little wind, a little cold rain, and a while bunch of:

could be anything..water will travel down a wire or anything inside the wall. Have a TV cable running over there or coming into the house on that side?

Re: Ready for this Sandy Bitch? - Mike - 10-30-2012

first storm to ever get my blood pumping a little bit. i couldn't unglue myself from looking out the window, the least safe place to be.

power stayed on, the garage leaked a tiny bit, and we had a branch the size of a small tree end up on our roof. time to call the landlord.

Re: Ready for this Sandy Bitch? - ViPER1313 - 10-30-2012

Power was still out this morning. One of my windows was leaking around the trim during the storm and I still need to check the roof out back, but this was way less severe than the storm this summer.

I was lucky enough to stumble into a generator Sunday but didn't need it. If you want it, its still unopened. Cost 700 + whatever tax was.

Too bad even all that rain couldn't wash the stink off of jersey.
( sorry dan)

yeah, I think its either coming in from an upstairs window and dripping down, or coming in somewhere around where the siding meets the roof. there is a damp spot of board i found in the attic

Re: Ready for this Sandy Bitch? - Ken - 10-31-2012

Welp, i'm alive. Somehow managed to retain power despite 90% of LI being down, no internet and no cell reception however. There are downed trees EVERYWHERE, every other street is blocked by either a power line or a tree. I'd say on average every block has at least one house with a tree in or on it. I had one tree that started to have it's roots lifted out, so in the middle of the storm (roughly 11PM) i ran out there and took the hose and tied it around the tree and then to some fence posts (pics later) which seemed to have stop it from tipping onto my house/deck. Spent yesterday cleaning up and helping neighbors out. Today i'm in the office and can finally get some internetz, glad to see everyone else is okay!

Confusedhock: that must have been exciting

Good to see you're still alive Ken - that was a monster and I know you NJ/NY people really took it on the chin.

Re: Ready for this Sandy Bitch? - WRXtranceformed - 10-31-2012

Just flew out of LaGuardia like 2 weeks ago. What good timing...it's such a mess up there.

We got a tiny bit of wind and some normal rain here. WV got smashed with snow.

Re: Ready for this Sandy Bitch? - Steve85 - 10-31-2012

Just a near miss from a large branch. The two trees on the left of the picture are the ones that keep me up at night during a storm like this. The boys sleep in the that upper left corner, they were in our room on air mattress'.

[Image: 894D8CB8-28FA-4E2C-81A1-E94783B545F4-115...A41095.jpg]

This one is uprooted and leaning against the neighbor's tree so we'll get that out but it's not threatening anything.

A nerve wrecking night but ultimately nothing to complain about.

Office closed for two days with no effect on pay and the caveat "You are expected to complete your work assignments as scheduled".
