i thought part of the big appeal of the ring was the unpredictability of the weather and the surface. putting the ring in a desert seems like its neutering some of the things that make it such a challenge. it would have been much better served to put it in the hills of the Appalachians. i've done a whole 2 seconds of thinking and western NC is clearly the best choice.

I read that argument on another site and it makes sense. Not to mention creating 1000 ft of elevation changes in Nevada would require quite a bit of Earth moving.

But there's no way they could pull off the elevation changes, which is why even *if* it was done, it wouldn't be accurate, so it'd always be 2nd place. The guy would be dead before all the earth movers in the US could finish pushing mountains around. I also have to say, part of the appeal is that it's run as a toll road with no real safety... It's old-school crazy with non-copyable history and a freakin castle in the middle. Probably not advisable here.

But I don't see why, if this is a serious proposal at all, why not top it? Make the largest, safest, most awesome track ever. Come up with a few "crazy" design elements and work them in there. Start now, it's done in 5 years, and its own legend begins.

1) Karussell? Bah. Bank it around ~540 degrees, doubled up on itself and exit out a long tunnel.
2) At least a mile "salt flat" stretch with no track.
3) A couple huge wind turbines in reverse and a few sprinkler soaked corners to generate some weather.
4) Esses you cannot see the end of.
5) Another 3/4 Lowes or ATL size oval.
6) All kinds of different pavement and intentional bumpy corners now and then with confusing lines and lots of passing opportunities.
7) Runoff room galore. Any walls have enough tires and bags to keep a car drivable after a 150+ MPH crash.

If you keep staring at the dot after if changes you will see a color picture, but as soon as you look away it will turn to black and white.

Then you can look back and forth between the dot and other parts of the pic to make it be black and white or color.
