Re: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 09-02-2014

the ND rendering is honestly more beautiful to me than the Alfa 4C. that is just pure talent poured into that design.

Here's hoping the actual design is just as good. What time is the reveal?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Steve85 - 09-03-2014

Looks like 8:30 tonight. And yeah, hoping the actual is at least close to that rendering!

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Evan - 09-03-2014

lots of conflicting rumors, some say it will be a kodo theme like that render, some say it will be more of a throwback to the original and be more oval-y and cutesy.
im hoping it keeps the kodo, but either way the car will be smaller than the current car which means no go for me Sad

Me too - the camo shots at least seem to support the rear 3/4 render

I was getting a kick yesterday reading the 10 page thread over this latest render in the ND section of miata.net - 50/50 love hate. A lot of grumpy old men upset that it doesn't appear to be a bar of soap with popup headlights (which is to be totally expected of course).

read the lugnut thread. Guys get worked up over 5 lug vs 4. Its hilarious.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Beej - 09-03-2014

That rendering is gorgeous.

Looks like the thing under the cover has a "bumped" (?) rear flare as opposed to the "smooth" one in the rendering. I much prefer the latter on this application.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Evan - 09-03-2014

I think the render is the more extreme concept car, and the camo car is the more toned down production version.

Why they never showed a concept miata (like the 6, cx5, and even 2) who knows

Sounds ripe for maximum trolling

Six lugs is clearly the best to give optimum torque distribution among the hub diameter. This is important to reduce hub temperature and to prevent brake rotor warpage.

Goodspeed Wrote:Speaking of trucks, I'm pretty excited to see some revitalization of the small/mid-size truck market. The XJ, for all its old-car quirks, is an awesomely usable daily that's been pretty handy on more than one occasion, so the thought of a small, 4 door, short(er) bed DD-able pickup that gets close to or above 30mpg highway is pretty tantalizing.

Apparently the moldy-oldy Frontier could be receiving diesel power in its coming update if this "technical study" is anything to go by (checking back for updates):

Cool. Just bring the rest of it into this decade

And the Colorado, though to me it needs more small

Plus the Tacoma which should be getting an update soon. If these are smartly priced and properly sized, I think they'd sell like hotcakes and be pretty much perfect DDs.

Colorado configurator went live today.

I was dissapointed yet not surprised that GM fucked up the pricing. Apparently, midsize doesnt mean cheaper anymore, just smaller. Perhaps they see what happens in the used car market where the tacomas and frontiers hold their value better than full size trucks, and figured there is demand for smaller truck, same price.

I put together a midrange model with a few but not all options, and it came out $33k. In real life Id probably buy a Z71 because less chrome, and thats $34.5k not even with a diesel. Next year when the oil burner is out, thats got to be at least $36k. So much for that idea.

But GM! You can get it for 10k off their asking price.

Has Nissan even face lifted their truck line in the last 10 years?

I like it a lot. Front kind reminds me of an s2k. Good work, Mazda.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 09-03-2014

front 3/4 is pure mini ferrari. i don't like many cars in candy red but this fits great. BRG with gold mesh wheels would be an atomic JIMP moment

cannot wait to see the mazdaspeed variant and (fingers crossed) fastback

Outdoor car on 17's vs. 16's on the reveal car

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 09-03-2014

Looks great! The NC looked silly. Could this be the Miata that breaks the whole "Girl car" persona?

No.

But it's still awesome!
