Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 07-29-2010

Ok gentleman.. & ladies if present.. So I finally get to stop spending money on my car for repair parts.. Looking to get a little aftermarket action on my RIA 1911.. I'm looking at grabbing a pair of VZ grips.. I think I've handle a 1911 with them before and I loved the profile and texture. Any have 2nd opinions on these or other grips? I can't decide between black or the green.. Also looking into getting a trigger job.. What would you say is the "average" cost from a reputable gun smith to do trigger work? Also feel free to add an necessary 1911 things I could buy in reasonable cost..(other than more mags.. Big Grin )

I'm not sure you need new grips, new training is more better. Then a guide rod laser. :-p Grips last, it's not a purse.

As for the AR, I didn't build it. Bought it out of the box. POF P-308 16". I only put about 80 rounds through it for my testing the other night, but as far as I can tell it runs slicker than snail shit, with the only 'issue' being inserting a full mag on a closed bolt -- You have to insert it with authority for the mag to lock in. Other than that, it ate my British surplus 7.62NATO like a boss.

Next will be to see how much it chews up non FMJ bullets when loading. For the money I paid, it ought to feed anything I can fit in the mag, but we'll see.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Jewels - 07-30-2010

I'm the one currently building an AR in Casa de Elsea. At this point I need my barrel, and I need to go down the street here to VA Arms and buy my gas tube and then my PEW- PEW will PEW-PEW.

IDK.. My buddy just bought a Smith 1911(some tactical version) and the grip profile was A LOT thinner and more comfortable to handle.. I feel the stock wood grips are a little too chunky for me.. Lol with training comes ammo.. I've got 200ish rounds of .45 brass that I'm saving to be able to reload(plus like another 300 at school).. just haven't had the time to get to my roommates house to use his dads press..

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 08-14-2010

After selling my beloved CZ-75 (which was actually HARD to do) I picked up a brandy new Smith and Wesson M&P9 Full Size from Dennis @ Ashby Arms. As usual I got excellent service, a good price, and exactly what I wanted.

Can't wait to hit the range with this thing. It fits me pretty well with the 'medium' backstrap, which is a little surprising, I figured I would need the large. Now I gotta fill out my rebate form for my two free mags. Smile

Looks just like dis:

grats rex! Smile all i got this weekend was my chest rig Smile

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Mike - 08-16-2010

Thinking of picking up a police trade-in P229 from Nova Armament. They (NA) seem to get great reviews online. Pistol is a .40S&W, 2 mags, night sights, hard case, and some holster wear. Pretty good price.

Thoughts?

You won't go wrong with Nova Armament, they seem like good people.

Things to consider:
Tritium has a 12 year half life, so find out when it was produced so you'll know when the vials need to be replaced
.40S&W is expensive, and IMHO doesn't do anything 9MM doesn't. Do you have a reason to want .40 or is that just "what they have"
Hardcase doesn't mean bupkis. It's a nice bonus for a used pistol I guess, but all modern pistols come with a hard case instead of a box.
$495 is a good price for a SIG but it isn't all that good for a used autopistol. I paid under 600 for my NEW M&P. (Granted, no night sights but with everything else you listed AND two additional mags on the way.)

Also, are you going to carry? If not, why are you getting the compact? Full size will shoot better, be higher capacity, and probably feel better in your hands.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Mike - 08-16-2010

1. Re: Tritium... thanks, will ask.
2. It's what they have. I would prefer 9MM.
3. CPOs seem to go for $525 online, but you seem to need an FFL to get one of those. Is there a method of having Nova do that for me? Like they buy it on my behalf, and I give them a little extra cut?
4. Not going to carry (unless shit gets really fucked up Tongue, then it would be nice to have the compact). I've shot the P229 and really liked the size and how it felt.

I could just go new w/o any bells or whistles for $800... Hrmm...

Yes, if you find a deal online, you can do an "FFL Transfer". Nova Armament only charges 20 dollars for this service.

Is that frowned upon since you're "supposed to support your local dealer"? If it is, I get it; kinda same thing with bicycles.

Kinda. I try to "support my local funstore" whever possible...why not tell them what you want, and what your budget is, and see if they can help you?
