The Germans tend to make cars that are built in a more complex way but are better to drive as a result.

It's important to keep in mind that for all of the random little stuff Taylor has had wrong with his Mk7 GTI, Joey has owned two that have required... oil changes. Other friends of mine have also had positive experiences with them.

RE: The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - RawrImAMonster - 12-12-2018

I've got a 2015 GTI with a engine tune that bumps it up around 80whp over stock and a transmission tune to go with it. So far I've had to tighten one bolt on the door because it was making a noise. Otherwise, just oil changes.

Overall the MK7's tend to be very solid cars.

RE: The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - Apoc - 12-12-2018

They're just nicer to drive... but I'm highly biased.

I think every person that's been in my GTI has complimented it. When I tell them it's the base model and what I paid, they are impressed.

The Sportwagen is kinda crap, though.

I can agree with this. The build quality of my wife's GSW isn't quite as nice as my mk6, which is weird since it's 7 years newer... I'm assuming the mk7/7.5 GTIs are nicer.

The halogen headlights are trash though. Shocked they even came on the GTIs...

Ask Adam how he liked his new VW

Yay anecdotes from everyone!

Just as many Japanese cars on here as German... but confirmation bias is a helluva thing.

I'm actually surprised to see BMW as far up on that list as they are this year

Oh boy, so now it makes sense to buy a Porsche.  Honey, I NEED the GT3 for reliability, look at how it ranks compared to my M3!

The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - Sijray21 - 12-12-2018

lol, over half of the bottom 9 in that list are the same manufacturer...

[edited out the IQS since it wasn't VDS - below is still relevant since it pushes DJ further toward a 911]

https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2018-us-initial-quality-study-iqs

For DJ:
"Porsche 911 posts best score of any model: The Porsche 911 has the lowest overall problem level (48 PP100) of any model this year. This is also the lowest level recorded in this generation of the study (2013-2018)."

The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - ViPER1313 - 12-12-2018

Initial quality score != reliability. It measures a lot about how the user feels about / likes the car (ex... how “easy” the infotainment is to use)

ah, that makes sense.

...still tho... Versa, Rio, Sonic... let's see how those hold up.

Good to see the GS up there as that's one of my prime targets for the next daily driver

You see this recently, about a woman with a million miles on her newish Elantra?

The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - Senor_Taylor - 12-12-2018

Sent some angry tweets out and tagged VW Care.

This bastard dealer is telling me they don't see or hear a problem with my speaker or the lights.

The fucking dealer that sold it to me said the speaker was blown and ordered one.

The lights flicker like a disco every time I open the door when the car is cold. I left it over night for them to see that. I'm so tired of this shit. The burden of proof shouldn't be on my end.

Lindsay? why wasn't it installed? i can understand the inconvenience since you live in tysons now, but i'd probably take it back to them. i can see how a dealership would be that petty by not performing (or resisting to perform) warranty service on a car they didn't sell to the customer.

Why? They get paid for warranty work regardless of who sold the car. The warranty comes from VW USA not the dealer. That excuse is a cop-out.

RE: The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - Sijray21 - 12-12-2018

i just mentioned "petty", because that is what it would be if they didn't sell the vehicle since they get paid for the work regardless. i have heard that warranty work is either a PITA or the dealer gets paid less for the work than the standard work, but i'm not sure how much truth there is to this claim.

RE: The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - Senor_Taylor - 12-12-2018

So, VW reached out to me and just straight up asked "What would you like?"

Uhhh... a Golf R?

I don't know.

Edit:

Let me be clear. I don't care as much about the dealer as much as having a car that's broken ever 6 weeks.

The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - JPolen01 - 12-12-2018

Tell them to fix the issues reported regardless of whether the tech can replicate the issue. And put you in a loaner until all is fixed. That or compensate you for the time taken off of work, time getting to and from the dealer, and time you've been making payments on a car that has been sitting in the shop.

RE: The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - Senor_Taylor - 12-12-2018

Honestly a box full of VW swag or something may make me feel better about it. At the end of the day, these little issues like the lights don't bother me. It's the fact that there's always something wrong with the car, which the fix is to make my car not have more issues, which isn't a possible reality.

Who knows, nothing else may break for the next 50,000 miles, or something semi-major like the oil pan gasket may fail again next week. I have no way of knowing and that's what's got me angry. Who knows, maybe this will go on for another year and I'll eventually end up in a Golf R Big Grin

"Hi Taylor, what I would like to do is escalate your case to one of our Region Case Managers (RCM). Our case managers act as a liaison between our dealers and our drivers. Your RCM will reach out to Stohlman VW and discuss the issues that your GTI has been having. Once the RCM has consulted with the dealership they will follow up with you. You should be receiving a call from your RCM by close of business tomorrow, 12/13. In the meantime, if you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask.-KT"
