RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Steve85 - 11-16-2019 Damn, that's some serious BS with your SIL!! Got some new quotes from a local State Farm agent. She said they probably couldn't beat Allstate since we had been with them so long. Naaahhhh, it just means they've been raising the rates for that long. We have 5 cars on the policy, includes our 3 and the girls cars, Allstate has crept up to $2176 for 6 months. Quote from State Farm was $1500, and if we move homeowners over too, another 15% off that. Most of the difference is in the vette, where even though it's antique plates and listed at under 7500 miles and pleasure vehicle, Allstate still charges full tilt. So it's basically 60-70 bucks savings on two of the cars and then 350 and 170 savings on the vette and BMW respectively. Not much interest in seeing if Allstate can match. Of course I have a son that will be on the policy in about 6 months so I'll be out there panhandling...or he will. (PS - we keep everyone on the policy, and cell phone account, because multiple cars and lines and have historically made it cheaper for everyone in terms of multiple car and line discounts and just have the kids pay us) RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - .RJ - 11-16-2019 is it worth getting your Vette on different insurance, like Hagerty? RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - ScottyB - 11-16-2019 (11-16-2019, 11:39 AM)Steve85 Wrote: Damn, that's some serious BS with your SIL!!its unreal. their own people are literally fighting each other. they've been dragging it out hoping they'll accept a lowball. really soured my opinion of them. we got the same discount from AAA for moving homeowners over to them as well as auto. definitely makes sense to have one company carry all of it, if not for the discounts than at least for the logistics of ease of keeping track of it all. RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 11-16-2019 (11-16-2019, 04:04 PM).RJ Wrote: is it worth getting your Vette on different insurance, like Hagerty? Haggerty was more expensive than Geico for the 911, assuming $50k in replacement value. They weren't really competitive at all. We have Liberty Mutual for homeowners. I found the multi-line discount to be less than the savings if I split home and auto. The logistics don't mean much to me, because home is already on easy button being paid with the mortgage. Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - rherold9 - 11-17-2019 Moral of the story is to look at switching insurance companies every few years? Sad how loyalty means increase your insurance rates. Guess I should check to get rid of State Farm. They've treated me well so far though Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 11-17-2019 (11-17-2019, 11:26 AM)rherold9 Wrote: Moral of the story is to look at switching insurance companies every few years? The answer is, yes, look every few years. Everything is a computer algorithm and tenure with the company means little to zero, except maybe something like a 5% discount off the bill. Companies price their policies artificially low (for them) early on, to get you as a customer. The gap between what you pay and what they want you to pay is considered the cost of aquisition. Over time the model regresses to the mean and you're moved in line with other people/cars like you. Switching companies has a decent chance of keeping you in that honeymoon period time and time again. I keep having to become a new FiOS customer every couple of years to get the best rates. I couldn't get that with allstate, so did hagerty for a couple of years but been on American collector ins for the past few. I think the e30, 02, and the pickup we don't talk about is like 375/year. Granted the value on the bimmers is only like 15k each.(11-16-2019, 04:04 PM).RJ Wrote: is it worth getting your Vette on different insurance, like Hagerty? Steve, I'd shop the Vette around the antique loop for sure! Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Sully - 11-17-2019 How long do you have to cancel FiOS before you are a "new" customer. I asked them about reupping my contract for another two years and they basically told me the best they could do was $20 more for the same (really less because I had free HBO when I started) package. When I said it made no sense, they said it included tons of discounts and I'd be saving so much even though it was worse than the packages they were advertising for new customers. I'm out of contact now and would really like the new style boxes and also my out of contact price went up to their new price right after I talked to them, go figure. I went with State farm auto and home when we bought our house. Switching auto would mean I'd have to change the home too cause the only way the home is reasonable is when you have auto. Think it dropped it like 30% or something Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Sijray21 - 11-17-2019 (11-17-2019, 09:45 PM)Sully Wrote: How long do you have to cancel FiOS before you are a "new" customer. I was not a FiOS customer (no service) for about an hour. I canceled in the morning of and booked new service online for the deal I wanted. Shitty part was I needed an upgraded ONT box on the house to get the speed I wanted (300/300 capable of gigabit), so I had to go a few days without wifi. We used our t-mobile hotspots for internet during the time. My suggestion was going to be if they give you issues, sign up in your other half's name. I even used the same phone number and email as the previous account, but we'll see if there are any 'gotchas' after the bill comes out. Using a spouse's name and info is what most people do from what I heard. The service I have doesn't have a contract, so if they try something I'll just cancel and use her info. The price I'm paying is time and aggravation though. Still beats an additional $45/mo though. RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Steve85 - 11-18-2019 I had the vette with Hagerty before and they cancelled me when I got hit by another car (a MB SUV backed up onto my hood) and "another driver in the house" got a ticket. Pissed me off and I won't go back, the State Farm rate of $93 for 6 months I'm pretty sure is better than Hagerty if I remember correctly. (OP was not very clear, I'm paying $93 through state farm not 350 for the vette, I'm saving $350 vs Allstate) Re-telecom: We also just switched from Comcast internet/tv/phone to FiOs and Youtube TV to save about 120/mo. We called Comcast once and they seemed willing to reduce (weren't 100% on going streaming yet) but when we called back were told there was nothing they could do. Of course when we called to officially cancel there was a lot they could do. Sorry, too late, already had the other services up and running. All this is part of our goal to find $600/mo in savings. It's been a while since we really took a hard look at these various services and other spending, it's easy to get complacent after a while... RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 11-18-2019 Haggerty is a joke. They will only insure an antique if you have more cars than drivers in the house. They refused to give me a quote when we were a one DD car household years ago. They said the risk I'd drive the 911 when in a pinch was too high if my wife had the other car... thereby negating the "pleasure" purpose. They didn't care that I commuted to work by bus. I check prices every year just to make sure I'm not wasting money, but they've never beaten Geico. I pay $311 every 6, mostly because I have $50k of coverage (including underinsured motorist) and an aggressive collision plan in case my wife t-bones one of the many overly expensive cars that drive around Seattle. (Our cars are all on the same plan - she doesn't drive the 911.) I'm convinced it's designed for guys who only drive their cars to one concours a year and are worried about their garage burning to the ground. RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Scott - 11-18-2019 I use American Collectors insurance for my Triumph and 2 Miata street cars with agreed value and my STP for the race car. They are significantly cheaper that Hagerty with better coverage. For everything else I use State Farm and have since I was 16 with the same agent. Never had an issue with them, everything is very easy (especially when you have car ADD and swap all the time), plus home owners. My rates don't really change so I never saw the advantage to shop around. That's bigger than I expected, but good to see I had the second best deal out there. Liability (BI/PD) - $100k/$300k/$100k Underinsured Motorist BI - $100k/$300k Underinsured Motorist PD - $25k Personal Injury Protection - $10k 911 Declared Value - $50k Deductibles - $500 (911 is $0) Roadside assistance No rental car THREE CARS Progressive - $840 for three cars, including a redirect to Hagerty for the 911, which has never been competitive as a standalone Geico - $1200 per six months (CURRENT COVERAGE) TWO CARS Nationwide - $850, no option for 911 Farmers - $1500, no option for 911 Allstate - $1200, no option for 911 State Farm - $670, no option for 911 online (like I'm gonna call a person) (11-18-2019, 11:06 AM)Apoc Wrote: Haggerty is a joke. This time Hagerty was $275 per six months versus the $311 I was paying with Geico. Hagerty has never been close to competitive before. Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - ViPER1313 - 12-27-2020 Progressive will jack your rate in short order. I also had to fight them tooth and nail after they claimed my wife got a reckless ticket in Alabama (a state she has never driven in), and were incredibly nasty about it. I had a claims representative instruct me, verbatim “well, maybe you need to speak with your wife” to which I responded in pure Karen “well maybe I need to speak with your supervisor.” Cost me money out of my own pocket to get a 3rd party contractor to fix their mistake and pull a DMV driving record. I don’t care if they offered to fellate me to get their business back - never gonna happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - davej - 12-27-2020 True. Mine went up like $12 when I dropped the explorer, still had the minivan and wagon at the time, which made zero sense to me. It went up again almost 300 after the first 6 months, but I'm still like 800bunder what it was before, so whatever. Quote the 911 on american classic insurance. They've been better than hagerty by a long shot Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using Tapatalk |
