I'll trade you for a 21-year-old, 194k BMW. Then we can talk about what breaks.
Haha well, you get what you pay for.

When you spend $30k+ on a 3 year old car you don't expect simple things to break or malfunction.

Re: Project DD: 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI - Apoc - 11-17-2011

When you spend anything on a car, you don't expect it to LEAK.

Unless your name is Rex.

Well, you still don't expect it... but you find a welder and teach that bitch a lesson so it doesn't happen again.

I dunno, I kinda expected half the shit I've dealt with on my E34. And all of it on the $700 E30.

But I agree with Lee... for a fairly new and expensive ride, it should be close to perfect.

Re: Project DD: 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI - WRXtranceformed - 11-23-2011

Back in the shop, for the third time in a month. Not really anyone's fault on this one though, the tinters when they fixed the tint left the battery on like dummies. Threw a CEL and caused the car to forget idle position. Dealer fixed it and is actually replacing the cracked wood grain on my shift knob under warranty. Hoping they fix my cracked key fob too, that might be wishful thinking though.

Have another 12+ round trip hours of driving coming up this weekend so I'm looking forward to being in the Caddy instead of this rental Impala LS POS.

Re: Project DD: 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI - Jeff - 11-23-2011

Would yo say you are having "a lot of issues" with this new car or is it just growing pains and you are satisfied that it will work itself out? I am asking from a "preceptions of the buying public" angle, not trying to say anything negative about your car.

Re: Project DD: 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI - WRXtranceformed - 11-23-2011

I think it's just growing pains. Overall I'm very pleased with the vehicle. I mean I think the leaks are retarded and it certainly adds to the credence of people talking trash about American engineering. But it was a first MY car for the 2nd gen so I'm going to cut Cadillac some slack. It was Car of the Year after all when it came out, and I can see why.

If more stuff comes up that make me have to leave it in the shop and drive a rental, I may change my tune and swap back to a jap car.

Do that and sell me caddy for cheap

Re: Project DD: 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI - WRXtranceformed - 11-28-2011

Damn speeding ticket this weekend! 3+ years without one, I got a little too secure in my uber-sweet radar detector bubble. 86 in a 70. Statie in WV got me on LIDAR.

Looking at laser jammers now...slowing down is probably not going to happen Tongue

Bawlin'

Re: Project DD: 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI - WRXtranceformed - 01-19-2012

Hit a big rig tire going 65 mph. Bumper held up surprisingly well, no marks from what I could tell. The chrome foglight housing had a tab and the side of it popped out, which I popped back in after some struggle. Unfortunately, the bottom right side of my new bawlin grill broke in half Sad

So I guess I'll pull off the bottom left side off and leave that the boring plastic, unless I can find a replacement. Who knows what kind of damage running over that tire did to the rest of the car. It didn't seem to throw off the alignment (enough to notice anyway) even though it lifted up the car when I hit it.

I find myself caring less and less about wear and tear damage on my cars as I get older and as I drive so much. It's hopeless to keep a good car in good shape. I dread the day I get the Stang completely restored and dread taking it out for fear of something like that happening. Or if I ever get a REALLY nice car how it might all come back to me.

Re: Project DD: 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI - Apoc - 01-19-2012

It was a great day when I realized I didn't really give a shit about my car. I mean, I still want it to look nice... but I really don't miss stressing over every little ding and blemish.

city living did this to me. its actually a great sense of freedom. yeah, i don't want it to look like crap, but there's all kinds of blemishes in the paint now. ideally, you have a DD beater and a play car that you can keep all minty. keeping a DD nice is a losing battle.

glad you're OK though man. highway shrapnel is no joke. if that was in heavy rain who knows if the car would have tried to kick sideways on you.

Seriously. I backed into DJ's mailbox the other day - it was very early morning before we went skiing and I just misjudged the distance. Oops. It was so great to be able to just kinda laugh at the dent I put in the car.

Re: Project DD: 2008 Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI - Jeff - 01-20-2012

Glad you are OK. That shit can cause serious issues! I backed my green Dakota into the fire hydrant out in front of my house. Messed up the otherwise perfect chrome bumper, was enough to make me sick. Even with my old shit I like to keep it 100% if I can. But heck, it had 140k on it and most of the paint was gone, wasn't going to spend $360 on a bumper! I think you need to get a big baller all stainless bling bling grill. Turn that shit in to you insurance, cost of an OEM Caddy grill would easily cover baller status grill with cash to buy drugs and guns with left over!

One of these things is not like the other.

Dude, I daily a 20-year-old 5-series. It's kinda beat up around the edges. Gives it "charm" or something.

First oil change. Decided to do the transmission fluid too since I doubt it was done before I owned it (book says first change at 100k...yeaaaaahhh...haha).

Used Pennzoil Ultra, OEM filters and OEM tranny fluid. HUGE change. Never tried this oil before but have heard only good things..and I got it on the cheap at Walmart. I am wondering what kind of cheap synthetic (or maybe dino??) was in it when I bought it, but it's like a different vehicle now.

Transmission fluid came out pretty clean other than a bit of copper shaving on the magnetic plug which is a good thing. My good buddy manages a mechanic shop here and one of his best mechanics was a master tech over at the Caddy dealership that I got my car at. Score. He knew everything about my car.

Seriously considering about a catback Magnaflow exhaust and maybe some intake work, then slowly some cosmetic stuff so I like to look at it even more. All coming slowly though...looming expensive vacation in April, my buddy deciding he is getting married in April in Charleston (engaged yesterday), etc.
