My coworker has a hilarious story of working at a shop that repaired/restored one of those (the Magnum PI one..308?). Owner paid like 17k for the car, then 30k to get it decent. A headlight is still 3k, an alternator 1700, etc. Anything with a prancing horse on the hood is a horrendous money pit, and yes, even the Mondial. I did my homework and I feel that I have pretty much the best combo of vehicles right now, so I probably won't be switching things up for a while :dunno: Add to that the fact that I have no idea what I want to do or where I want to live in 5 years and playing with cars is less of a priority  If I had to give it a thought, I'll probably continue playing with the Miata for a long time. Its basically a faultless platform (IMO) and even getting stupid with it is still going to be ~1/2 to 1/3 the cost of anything else I'd want to drive for fun, which means the $ to fun ratio is through the roof. Works for me. Way out in the future, if I'm lucky, I wouldn't mind building something over time. FFR Cobra, 60's fastback Mustang, etc. The lure of cars like a C6Z, 4th gen Supra, Caterham/Lotus/Atom is there at times as well. Re: What is your car buying future? - Jake - 07-22-2011 I forgot about the Legacy GT's. I'd DD one. OrOrOr... another E34, this time in Technoviolet M5 Touring form: ![]() That's a pipe dream though, since A) they never made a Technoviolet one en masse and B) the M5 tourings never came to the US. Guess I could paint a 540iT purple and do a 6-speed swap. Assuming I'm not broke, the dollar hasn't collapsed, and zombies aren't roaming the earth... I could see: Turbo diesel something, I guess it STILL won't be a BMW :finger: , so I'll likely revisit the TDI. I can't say I'll have a track car, we'll see. I'm just not missing the track really. Suzuki V-strom or Honda CRF150 depending on if I'm living out in Botetourt as I hope to be. Seems likely I'll be tired of the 2002 in 3 years. Just going on my track record here, NO car has made it that long. Re: What is your car buying future? - HAULN-SS - 07-22-2011 A few things on my list. I basically am presently trying to stave off buying a 2007 CTS-V so that when the prices drop a bit more on the 2009's I can get one of those. I always have a Grand National on my watch list. Im not sure why I havent pulled the trigger on one of those yet. I think maybe if/after I see the GSXR? Some sort of diesel pickup truck. Too many toys, not enough toy haulers. I also have a need for one fairly often around the house, so it'd be something i wasnt afraid of scratching up the bed or whatever Re: What is your car buying future? - V1GiLaNtE - 07-22-2011 HAULN-SS Wrote:I basically am presently trying to stave off buying a 2007 CTS-V so that when the prices drop a bit more on the 2009's I can get one of those. I can't believe I forgot about that.. I would absolutely drive a CTS-V daily.. Excellent choice sir! Re: What is your car buying future? - ViPER1313 - 07-22-2011 I have been putting some serious thought into getting rid of the Grand Prix for something else, but I don't have any clue what I want to get so I will probably end up holding on to it for a while. I either want something new that gets 30+mpg because I drive 80+ miles every day (Chevy Cruze, Ford Focus, Mini Cooper) or something new-used and ridiculous (2005/2006 C6 Vettes keep coming to mind.) The 2012 Mustang V6 has caught my eye recently too as kind of an in-between. It currently is valued at $23,500 by KBB and i only have under a year left on the lease and the buy-out is like 14ish, seems like a deal to me. Ahh yes of course, i'm still debating whether or not that's worth the inevitable headache, but i do want it really bad and they're not all to expensive. Also, just realized, along the whole truck lines. I'd LOVE to pick up a used Jeep SRT-8 or the Ram SRT-10. I realize the Jeep can't tow but frankly i've never had the need, i just need the space. Oh, and the stupid fast it provides. Re: What is your car buying future? - Evan - 07-22-2011 *sigh* I think about my automotive future and all I can see is depressing. I specced out a BMW 1M a few weeks ago, went as far as contacting dealers, but then came to my senses. Next car, next 6 months or so will be a boringbox commuter car that shifts itself, relatively cheap and gets good gas mileage. 5 door / wagon is a must. 2012 impreza is looking like a strong possibility if they arent delayed again. Possible alternative is to sell my Titan and buy a smaller Tacoma or Frontier. would really like a wrx but commuting in traffic i really need an auto ![]() Very likely to sell my Exige, probably next spring. Replacement Id like to think would be something sporty and fun, like the toyobaru or next gen miata, S2000....or maybe nothing? who knows. Very slight possiblity I would build up the new factory five mid engined wrx thingy whenever it comes out. been toying with getting back into track events and thinking about something rwd , reliable, and bigger than a miata. not sure what that would be thats not an old busted bmw. more than a couple years out who knows. if i have kids then everything changes Re: What is your car buying future? - CaptainHenreh - 07-22-2011 Evan Wrote:been toying with getting back into track events and thinking about something rwd , reliable, and bigger than a miata. not sure what that would be thats not an old busted bmw.
Re: What is your car buying future? - Evan - 07-22-2011 oh, and doesnt handle like dogshit. i figured that was implied. Re: What is your car buying future? - WRXtranceformed - 07-22-2011 What say you all about a turbo Sky? I see them every now and then and it kind of makes it move. Re: What is your car buying future? - .RJ - 07-22-2011 WRXtranceformed Wrote:What say you all about a turbo Sky? I see them every now and then and it kind of makes it move. YES WANT SO MUCH. Re: What is your car buying future? - WRXtranceformed - 07-22-2011 Can't you boost the living daylights out of those too? Ecotec motor? Or am i thinking about something else.. Re: What is your car buying future? - .RJ - 07-22-2011 Supposedly there's a factory upgrade kit that takes it to 300hp - I think ECU & fuel injectors. I havent looked too much into those, but they sell for ~$20k in really nice shape. Re: What is your car buying future? - Evan - 07-22-2011 WRXtranceformed Wrote:What say you all about a turbo Sky? I prefer the swoopy solstice lines, but Id take either Re: What is your car buying future? - Steve85 - 07-22-2011 WRXtranceformed Wrote:What say you all about a turbo Sky? That will stop her from saying "MG" which makes me twitch...and I obviously have a high tolerance. Re: What is your car buying future? - JustinG - 07-22-2011 Hmmm... Well wife is stuck, since our recent acqusition of the SAABlazer. Ive been contemplating selling the Jeep, and we both are thinking along the lines of a car, 4 doors, preferably AWD. So I am trying to convince her a EVO/STi is a good idea as a DD or even a IS250/350. We both have a commute of 10 minutes to something that gets 45MPG isn't really a necessity. After today I want something with seat coolers. |
