Re: 1968.... - LC619FR - 05-09-2011

Sat I woke up feeling like a Mack hit me and didn't get to the garage till about 11. We worked all day to get this thing ready for paint, but the results were worth it as I think the paint came out a lot better then any of us expected.

Don't wear black shoes when sanding a yellow vehicle.

Jeff worked his magic and got these hood latches looking like they did from the factory in '68

You can see 3 of the 5 colors that we found on the truck.

Again Jeff's magic touch.

Re: 1968.... - LC619FR - 05-09-2011

While I was sanding Jeff started the process of stripping cleaning and painting all the trim pieces black.

At about 7 last night we finally got the truck sanded aired off and washed.

The Kaiser was a tight squeeze getting into the paint booth.

Jeff even thought it'd be cool to have a little bling.

Re: 1968.... - LC619FR - 05-09-2011

After staying up till about 2 cleaning sanding and priming some trim I brought home I wasn't exactly in any hurry to wake up, plus looking around the house this morning and seeing the mess that I'd have to leave my wife upon her return I once again got down to the garage late. But Jeff and his painter Phil had a lot of dedication and had shit taped off and started painting. Phil was walking out of the booth as I rolled into the lot this morning and goddamn did he do a hell of a job.

I'm sure my neighbors love me...I opened up the Golden Pond paint booth again tonight and got everything but the brush gaurd painted. I ran out of light and didn't feel like doing double the sanding and repainting tomorrow so it just got primed before I called it a night.

Re: 1968.... - LC619FR - 05-09-2011

Again mad props go out to Jeff and the guys at the garage. He was patient as hell and gave up a weekend with his lovely better half to hang out with my big ass so we could get this thing ready for next week's Jeep show in manassas. Monday I plan on going down to Woodstock and trimming out the essentials to get the beast home and then finish trimming it out in the driveway. I also have to repaint the front fenders, paint the wheels and rear fenders, spray some bed-liner in a can on the rear step and touch up some spots in the bed it self. I think for what this thing is ( 43 year old ex fire truck) it turned out to be one sexy looking Jeep. Hope you all agree.

Re: 1968.... - JustinG - 05-09-2011

I LIKE, ALOT, was on the way home from JMU Graduation and went through Zions X Roads, there was some old military vehicles parked in someones yard, and one of them happened to be one of these bad boys, in olive drab. Was Sexay. You said you were gonna do a canvas top right??? Know what color? Black or Tan?

Re: 1968.... - Kaan - 05-09-2011

NICE! now come get this workbench at my house

Re: 1968.... - ScottyB - 05-09-2011

looks amazing, i can't wait to see some full shots of it once it's out of the booth.

Re: 1968.... - LC619FR - 05-09-2011

The canvas will be tan, but I'm not exactly sure when that's going to get ordered. Kaan I'd love to come get the work bench but like I said in my PM I'm busy until the middle of next week. I'll PM you on NOVA with a date

Re: 1968.... - Jeff - 05-13-2011

Post some pics Homo!

Re: 1968.... - LC619FR - 05-15-2011

Well I guess Jeff fails to realize that sometimes people have other things in life that they have to do other then sit on here and post pictures, like working 45 hours straight! :finger: With that being said I got the truck home monday afternoon and went to work finishing up the paint on the brush gaurd scuffed the wheels for paint and mounted the new voltage regulator. I had to work on the house tuesday to get the rest of the flooring done in the kitchen so that really cut into my Jeep time although I did get the wheels painted and the brush gaurd mounted. I worked from wed at lunch till friday at 6pm straight so I had enough time friday night when I got home to load the Jeep on the trailer and get ready for the show on Sat.

Re: 1968.... - Jeff - 05-16-2011

Are the rear fenders staying black?

Re: 1968.... - Goodspeed - 05-16-2011

Re: 1968.... - LC619FR - 05-16-2011

Jeff I assume you mean are the rear fenders staying green...the answer to that is no...they will be painted but again I'm just short on time, and to make matters worse I got called today by some asshole who wants me to put on a lift kit :finger: As far as the white top, I'm starting a donation to the Zach's a poor bastard fund to help support the new top...just think you could be the first to contribute to this fund that is in much need of your help Wink

Re: 1968.... - LC619FR - 06-03-2011

Today with the weather being as beautiful as it was I finally decided to take the homemade top off. This is a picture of the bows for the soft top that they riveted the hard top to.
