- Ole - 11-30-2008 Dell is having a cyber-monday sale tomorrow, maybe I will get a laptop there. - Evan - 12-01-2008 Mike Wrote:wrong. we're all speaking of machines we had our hands on. you're relying on data from typical retard users... they can break anything.Mikey slept through statistics class! IMO there are better computers out there for the money and there is no reason to shop Dell except when the price is far less, and considering they are no longer the top computer reseller and loosing marketshare, the market agrees with me too - Evan - 12-01-2008 this is a pretty solid deal for a cheaper machine http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/ ... 1#desclink email me if you want a $25 off coupon on top of that $500 + shipping for a comparable new Dell $450 + shipping for a lower specced Dell outlet - Ole - 12-01-2008 So where do I look Oh Knowledgeable One? This is why it took me so long to decide on a bike....... - Mike - 12-01-2008 Evan Wrote:Mike Wrote:wrong. we're all speaking of machines we had our hands on. you're relying on data from typical retard users... they can break anything.Mikey slept through statistics class! Bigger sample = more reliable data Your data is crap, mine is not.. Do you know exactly what was up with all 4000 of those machines? No. For all you know, 3999 of them could have been great, but 1 was bad and it happened to belong to a decision maker. - Mike - 12-01-2008 Ole Wrote:So where do I look Oh Knowledgeable One? This is why it took me so long to decide on a bike....... Just get a Dell... Please. - Apoc - 12-01-2008 Your problem is your friendship causes you to place too high a value on Evan's opinion. You're all set to go and he comes in here and fucks everything up. Don't listen to him, he's cuckoo. - Apoc - 12-01-2008 Mike Wrote:Your data is crap, mine is not.. I wish I had back all the time I spent investigating issues that appeared to happen to only one person, but happened to the wrong person. The wrong thing breaks for an executive and suddenly you have 4 people digging into data for days, looking to prove it was an extreme case. - Ole - 12-01-2008 Apoc Wrote:Your problem is your friendship causes you to place too high a value on Evan's opinion. This way when my (other than Dell) computer breaks, I can guilt Evan into coming over and fixing the problem! My mamma didint raze no foo..... - Evan - 12-01-2008 Mike Wrote:lol.... so Mikey making shit up is more trustworthy than the reliability and cost analysis that the IT departments did to make the decisionEvan Wrote:Mike Wrote:wrong. we're all speaking of machines we had our hands on. you're relying on data from typical retard users... they can break anything.Mikey slept through statistics class! Bigger sample = more reliable data Its fun to listen to fanbois try to defend their fanboyism. - Apoc - 12-01-2008 Evan Wrote:Its fun to listen to fanbois try to defend their fanboyism. It ain't fanboyism if you've got a legitimate reason to appreciate the product. Everyone that has an opinion that differs from yours isn't a fanboy. Besides, Mike uses a Mac so I'm not sure how he qualifies. Besides, we all know that IT cost analysis is shit. If they weren't, why has every company I've worked for used Dell? - Mike - 12-01-2008 Evan Wrote:Mike Wrote:lol.... so Mikey making shit up is more trustworthy than the reliability and cost analysis that the IT departments did to make the decisionEvan Wrote:Mike Wrote:wrong. we're all speaking of machines we had our hands on. you're relying on data from typical retard users... they can break anything.Mikey slept through statistics class! Bigger sample = more reliable data What am I making up? I have had ~25 Dells in my hands, seeing regular use, over the past couple years. I haven't had a single issue. - Evan - 12-01-2008 Apoc Wrote:It is fanboyism if you say "ignore everything else and buy brand X"Evan Wrote:Its fun to listen to fanbois try to defend their fanboyism. if you were shopping for a car and I told you to only buy a Chevrolet, dont even look at any other cars you would think I was nuts Evan Wrote:anyway, Id just watch slickdeals for a good deal on machine and go from there. ...If you're looking to spend ~$500 the brand doesnt matter all that much, just get whatever is a good deal and plan to replace it with another $500 machine every 2 years. - Apoc - 12-01-2008 Evan Wrote:It is fanboyism if you say "ignore everything else and buy brand X" I'm sorry but I can't seem to find where anyone said that. He wanted an opinion on Dell Outlet and he got one. I also added that Dell doesn't suck like you think. He can buy an HP if he wants, I didn't try to dissuade him. Well, I did try to dissuade him from listening to you but I'd do that regardless of topic... so there! FWIW, I've found the deals on slickdeal, dealnews and fatwallet too restrictive. I usually want to upgrade something and it ends up adding 20% to the price. If you can find something that meets your specs, it's great but otherwise they kinda pigeonhole. - Evan - 12-01-2008 Mike Wrote:did Feerst hijack your account?Evan Wrote:Mike Wrote:lol.... so Mikey making shit up is more trustworthy than the reliability and cost analysis that the IT departments did to make the decisionEvan Wrote:Mike Wrote:wrong. we're all speaking of machines we had our hands on. you're relying on data from typical retard users... they can break anything.Mikey slept through statistics class! Bigger sample = more reliable data - .paul - 12-01-2008 get the cheapest machine taht suits your needs, brand does not matter IMHO, all computer will suck to someone else. It is just like cars, someone has had things go wrong. If dell was SOOO shitty, then corporations wouldnt be using them. Same goes to HP, and so forth. just do not get an eMachine. - Mike - 12-01-2008 Evan Wrote:Mike Wrote:did Feerst hijack your account?Evan Wrote:Mike Wrote:lol.... so Mikey making shit up is more trustworthy than the reliability and cost analysis that the IT departments did to make the decisionEvan Wrote:Mike Wrote:wrong. we're all speaking of machines we had our hands on. you're relying on data from typical retard users... they can break anything.Mikey slept through statistics class! Bigger sample = more reliable data :?: If you say "I know xxxx out of those 4000 were in for repairs," your data is valid. Otherwise, my point is totally valid and your data is not. - Evan - 12-01-2008 lol @ Mikey. Evan Wrote:lol.... so Mikey making shit up is more trustworthy than the reliability and cost analysis that the IT departments did to make the decision this could go on for days - Ole - 12-01-2008 at least 3 pages..... - Mike - 12-01-2008 Evan Wrote:lol @ Mikey. :?: Again, what is Mikey making up? Would you like me to count the machines? Give you machine names and model numbers? Shit, I can probably rattle off a dozen IP addresses too. I'm going to ignore servers for now since we're talking about desktops, but I've had another 15 or so of them (1750, 1850, 1950, 2950, powervaults): AOL 2 latitudes Anystream 6 optiplexes. 5 latitudes. Group Logic 3 optiplexes. 1 latitude. 3 dimensions. Total? 20 machines. I have never had a repair done on a dell. I have had them in sour states, but that's always due to me trying to get a Server OS on a home machine, mucking with boot settings, throwing in unsupported cards, or any of a million other things I shouldn't be doing. I have had 3 HPs in that same time. 2 had to be sent in. 3 Macbook Pros, 1 had to be sent in. 15 Mac Minis, 4-5 have died. I'm no Dell fanboy, but the data presented in my life has shown me they're quite reliable. I've been around IT departments... Making a change as drastic as you're saying was made is most often not an educated decision... It's a handful of people who feel strongly that the change should be made, speaking up really loudly (or having a lot of clout), and the change is made. |
