Thanks to all who have posted. It has been pretty exciting and it all happened rather fast, but I am happy. The only reservation so far is the rather critical parking situation. If I host a MM Thanksgiving party the parking will be as fun as a ride on the failcopter.

HAULN-SS Wrote:Looks nice. I like those kitchen cabinets as well. Are you done with school already? I don't know what you majored in or plan on doing or whatever, but I guess you'll be around woodstock for a while now huh?

I graduate in May with a BBA. I'll be working at Woodstock Garage in sales for awhile and doing all the Chrysler training to manage the service side. I want to have a grasp of how everything works so I can fill any roll that is needed. "The Garage" as we call it has been in the family for over 80 years, so I plan to keep that going.

House stuff done today-
1. 1X Door knob and bolt - Jesus, why is this process so complicated and damn hard? Who knew boring 2 holes in a door could be such a pain in the ass? 2 more to go...
2. Cleaning - Sylvia, her whole family, and my whole family cleaned from early morning to near dark. It looks 1000X better then it did. The general funk is lifting and it is starting to look like a 2 y/o house should...you know...kinda new?
3. Programed garage door opener! If that isn't a homeownery thing, I don't know what is.

Lots of progress for a Sunday!

Wow, holy shit I've been busy.

-Mexican garden as been excavated and hauled away
-New floor in kitchen
-Walls fixed and primed
-Downstairs mostly painted
-Custom equipment cabinet being built above fireplace as we speak
-New light fixtures and fans throughout
-GE Fridge and Maytag front-loading washer and dryer coming in Friday
-HDMI and speaker wires run through walls and floor...clean custom install

I'll get pictures early this coming week and explain the grand vision for the entertainment center. Its pretty freakin cool.

- Dave - 05-24-2008

wow, that's a damn impressive list Jeff!

The entertainment center is finally done! WHEW! Now all I have to do is paint it. Its pretty sweet considering what it could have looked like. I also got some pics for you fools. I'm going to do before and afters from the front door in showing what all has been done downstairs. The upstairs has almost been ignored at this point.

The original front door.

New door with storm door, fresh paint, and new lock/deadbolt

In that original door pic you can see the ugly gold contractor grade lights... the new lights (I replaced 6 of these)

Kitchen when I moved in...

Now... (Should have taken a wider angle...shows the floor more then anything)

New fan and light over table (fan is RF from my harmony remote)

And last but not least...THE entertainment center. If you recall the fireplace was originally designed to have a TV over it. An old style CRT. Well I have a 52in Samsung LCD...which needs to be on the freakin wall. So I decided to put all the equipment over the fireplace and hide it all. There is a 2in piece of conduit run to the basement to run the wires. I got a Harmony 890 RF remote to control it all behind the wall.

Stage 1- Shelving and wire management. There is a cutout in the back of each shelf to run all the wires, the MDF shelf is for the Onkyo 606 receiver. The others are for the PS3, Dell 1505, Sony VCR, and Direct TV box.

Stage 2 - The face

The wall is made of 3/4in MDF. It is framed with 2X2 pine and the door is a 24X36in frame from Micheal's. We recessed Euro hinges into the frame and put magnets on the other side to hold it closed. The molding along the bottom conceals about 10 routed out air vents to help circulate the cabinet to keep the machines cool. The wall stops about 3in from the ceiling.

Well, there it is. The work so far on the downstairs. The fridge and washer/dryer come today sometime. Madden if you are reading this that is where that painting would go if you can find time to do it. Thanks for looking guys, suggestions and comments appreciated!

Yes, its going to be painted the same color as the walls. That darker green color thats on the ceiling in the dining area. The moldings and all are going to be that dark color so they don't stand out.

damn i need to start a project thread for my crib...jeff your place is lookin' good

- WRXtranceformed - 06-06-2008

You're being a lot more productive with your house than I am. I've been meaning to get some painting / trim projects going but fracturing my hand and purchasing a new car quickly brought that to a hault. I'm gradually tearing my place apart with weekly binge drinking fests

Mike Wrote:seriously bawlin.

Soon. I wish there was some way to make it jive with a Summit event, but those weekends are just too busy I think. We just need to make sure not to make it too much of a "burn it down" party until I have lived there for awhile.
