I'm crossing my fingers - one of the ram sticks in the computer had a bad address - replaced both with the ones you gave me and it passed Memtest86 running overnight. I think the CMOS memory was also corrupt - reset the BIOS and it doesn't seem to be having any boot issues. I haven't left it off for an extended period yet (only a few hours at a time) - I'm leaving it off all tonight and tomorrow and seeing if it will still boot alright. Good deal either way - it does run stable, the HD doesn't have any bad sectors (rare) and the battery is good.
