It really depends on the point of the picture. - .RJ - 08-05-2007 Mikey just doesnt want to see my mug in the reflection! - Mike - 08-05-2007 Apoc Wrote:Mike Wrote:when making reflection shots, make sure you're not in the reflection... well no shit... when the picture is cool because you're in it, yeah... a reflection of a motorcycle? not cool to see the photographer. - Apoc - 08-05-2007 Iunno... I thought it was a pretty cool shot with him in it. I figured he was trying to do it, kinda like "hey look at my camera and my bike" sorta thing. - white_2kgt - 08-06-2007 I picked up the Sigma 70-300 the other weekend, bad ass lens for the price! - white_2kgt - 08-07-2007 oh if you are going to be shooting inside w/ that 70-300 you might want to get a speedlight. The built in flash can cause the telephoto lens to cast a shadow on your image. - .RJ - 08-07-2007 What's a speedlight? I cant think of anywhere that I could use a 70-300 inside. - white_2kgt - 08-07-2007 .RJ Wrote:What's a speedlight? It's a flash, ![]() And there are TONS of ways to use it inside, just depends on the kind of picture you want to take. A good flash is also useful outside on a sunny day. - Apoc - 08-07-2007 I carry mine wherever I go and always use it for outdoor shoots. IMO it's MUCH more useful than a 50mm. - white_2kgt - 08-07-2007 Apoc Wrote:I carry mine wherever I go and always use it for outdoor shoots. Which one do you have? I have the 430EX and was thinking of getting the 580 so I could do some off camera flash, there's some situations when it would really come in handy, especially w/ a mobile baby. - .RJ - 08-07-2007 How much do those flashes sell for? - white_2kgt - 08-07-2007 .RJ Wrote:How much do those flashes sell for? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/3results/co ... rand_Canon - Evan - 08-07-2007 430 is my next purchase... along with a sigma 17-70 whenever they get in the country. (fack this is more $$ than i thought) - .RJ - 08-07-2007 Sigma 17-70 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EG ... 357CHVU1QU Are they on backorder or something? - Evan - 08-07-2007 yes, there are none in stock at any store Ive looked at. A few on ebay but i dont do ebay for stuff like this. btw, I disagree with chris, I think a fast 50mm kicks a lot of ass, you just have to move your feet more. Mine has made up for my lack of photog talent on a lot of shots.
- .RJ - 08-07-2007 Evan Wrote:btw, I disagree with chris, I think a fast 50mm kicks a lot of ass A lot of photography stuff seems to be a matter of opinion, and everyone else's opinion is wrong. 50mm lens, filters, lens hoods, canon vs. nikon, canon/nikon vs. 'aftermarket' glass, and so on.... - white_2kgt - 08-07-2007 .RJ Wrote:Maybe - I have a mini-tripod but thats not going to cut it. Chris is trying to talk me into a UV lens filter too. you want to get that UV filter, and maybe a circular polarizer, seeing as how you like to take pictures of shiny things it will come in handy, I just wish I didn't' lose so much light w/ the UV filter since a lot of my shots are indoors. - Apoc - 08-07-2007 white_2kgt Wrote:Apoc Wrote:I carry mine wherever I go and always use it for outdoor shoots. It doesn't make up for that blob in the bottom right corner of your picture. Taking a clear picture is not the point of a 50mm lens, it's just what you're using it for. You can do that with any lens. The point of the fast 50mm is the ability to dial the aperture way up. Maybe I'm just not used to dealing with shitty Canon kit lenses. ![]() white_2kgt Wrote:you want to get that UV filter, and maybe a circular polarizer, seeing as how you like to take pictures of shiny things it will come in handy, I just wish I didn't' lose so much light w/ the UV filter since a lot of my shots are indoors. Take the exposure compensation up one step (or less). It should combat the effects of the filter without having to deal with lengthening shutter speed. - .RJ - 08-07-2007 Apoc Wrote:Maybe I'm just not used to the kit lens being so shit. No, I think this is your problem  Evan Wrote:you just have to move your feet more If the 50mm lens came with an ATV you'd be all up on it! - Evan - 08-07-2007 .RJ Wrote:I didnt say he was wrong, I just said I disagreed.
