Question. If I have a bunch of AVI movies. Can I mod an xbox to play those AVI movies from a network PC? I want to put another media PC in the bedroom but the wife is putting her foot down on buying more PC parts...little does she know I'm getting a Core 2 Quad when the prices drop next month.

Yes, and more. My xbox will play just about ANY video format. I don't think I have found one that it won't play. It plays ISO files that are not burned to a disc. It plays RARed files that have not been unRARed yet. It even plays partial video files. Windows media player doesn't ever do that for me.

Yes, it works over a network. I store all my TV and movie files on my PC. I stream them over my network to my xbox. It works great.

If the wife does not want a big pc laying around an xbox is perfect its dark, small, and no one really notices it. Plus it looks like it should be near a TV.

google XBMC or xbox media center. there are a few how-to pages on setting it up. and modding the xbox.

I still can't figure out how to get songs and movies and shit onto my 360, but I haven't given it much effort. We have 1 desktop (that's hooked up to the bigscreen), 2 laptops that can be plugged into the amp for the home theater, an XB0X and a 360 in our basement though, so I'm never lacking media playage.

xbmc plays music also

Dreamcast = check! $40 for it, 2 controllers, 2 memory packs, and 7 games.
Genesis = check! From Lee.

You want the Dreamcast keyboard? I have one, never used, that I wouldn't mind parting with.

- Evan - 06-15-2007

I have a ton of dreamcast backups if anyone needs them.

I need to pick up a spare dc, in case mine ever blows up. such a great console.

I'm downloading the good ones right now... there are actually 2 torrents online that contain EVERYTHING... 50gb/ea... I may get that when I get home.

I might also need a quick tutorial on how to burn the games (it seems you have to do something special to some of them?) and how to run them.

- Evan - 06-15-2007

yeah i remember the 'dc scene' I was into that for about....3 months.

Originally there was a boot disc, and you would need to use a dummy file to push the game to the outer (faster) portion of the disc.

then there was a autoloader developed. You could modify the old isos to incorporate that so as not to use a boot disc as well.

damn, im gonna have to fire up virtua tennis and crazy taxi when i get home tonight.
anyone want to get their shit ruined in Soul Calibur?

Mike - if you want to tinker around wiht an old xbox I have one that just shit the bed - the puff of smoke leads me to believe it was the power supply, which should be an easy fix. I don't have the know-how or the motivation to try and fix it

- Evan - 06-18-2007
