He will be buried in it. - Sijray21 - 09-19-2005 CaptainHenreh Wrote:He isn't. damnit.... :x - Dew_Junkie - 09-19-2005 yeah just wanted to vote against the SRT4 haha Wilks - Mike - 09-19-2005 figure out a class you don't mind being in and go for it. if you have no plans for racin go with what you'd like the most, wouldn't mind stuffing in to a wall, and is easy to work on. my votes? 2.5RS, integra, or hatch. - D_Eclipse9916 - 09-19-2005 my vote awd dsm, if you go through cars quickly, if you get a 2nd gen awd dsm, the price does not go down much, and if you find one for a good price you can sell it back for even more. Or if you want a track bitch, maybe get a cheap 1g and mod the hell out of it. However, they are on the heavy side.... - KPWSerpiente - 09-19-2005 My boy has his 91 GSX up for sale right now. Motor was rebuilt like a year and a half ago. Just new bearings, rings and seals. Frontmount, blowthrough gm maf, bbk throttlebody, slowboy 57 trim t3/t4, 2nd gen exhaust manifold, full buchur exhaust, buchur/sx bolt on fuel pressure regulator, 680cc injectors, safc, act 2600 clutch. Fidanza short shifter, autometer cobalt boost and air/fuel gauge. I'm sure there are a few things I'm missing. PM me if you want to some pictures or something. -T - .RJ - 09-19-2005 AWD DSM does not a good track car make. With that kind of power and weight you're going to be brake limited up front big time, and those things understeer like a bitch until the turbo spools and you can get on the power, and then sometimes it just understeers worse. - Dave - 09-19-2005 i'm selling both 240s in my current plans. I'll probably never sell the supra, so no point in even going there Jay :-). So, I'm feeling a couple votes for the mkIV, a couple for the DSM, and several for the 240. Looks like the 2.5, SRT, and Hondapile aren't getting much support in the choosing process. DSM and 240 will run me about the same price I imagine, whereas the mkIV would be a pretty expensive endeavour. Still not sure what I'm going to do here. Keep the suggestions coming. - Mike - 09-19-2005 the dsm and 24 will cost the same? maybe in initial cost. the dsm will cost you A LOT more in the long run. - CaptainHenreh - 09-19-2005 Mike Wrote:the dsm and 24 will cost the same? maybe in initial cost. the dsm will cost you A LOT more in the long run. SR'd 240 VS DSM...price differential isn't much. - Mike - 09-19-2005 Mike Wrote:maybe in initial cost. - CaptainHenreh - 09-19-2005 Mike Wrote:Mike Wrote:maybe in initial cost. I read what you said. I stand by my statement. - Mike - 09-19-2005 you're silly or just don't know people with DSMs i'll admit, i don't know anyone with a SR 240, but i do know 4 people with DSMs... only 1 of them is running.
- .RJ - 09-20-2005 The DSM will just be more $$ to keep running, and will eat up tires and brakes a lot faster due to the speed/weight... - BLAIR - 09-20-2005 Mike Wrote:you're silly or just don't know people with DSMs i have a SR 240.. dave.. need a ride??.. or want to drive it? - D_Eclipse9916 - 09-20-2005 wow I dont know about your experiences with dsms, but mine is very easy to oversteer, lol ask the instructor that was with me on summit point. You have to learn how to drive awd cuz its totally different. Actually getting on the throttle will increase understeer while lifting off the throttle will get the back light and slide it out....I wish I had a video, I was kicking ass through the corners, however, as im stock and slipping clutch, every car there except a corolla raped me on the straights, I passed a bunch of people tho through the corners cuz they had to let me pass as I was much faster...and these were on 215/17s original 62,000 mile RS-A. The car is a good track car if you are competent with it. Or maybe the people I was against sucked....cuz I didnt get passed except at the starting line when one passed me on the straight accelerating, but he had to let me pass two turns later. - .RJ - 09-20-2005 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:wow I dont know about your experiences with dsms, but mine is very easy to oversteer, lol ask the instructor that was with me on summit point. Driving an AWD car is no different than a FWD or RWD. The line is about the same, you still have 4 contact patches and a traction circle and weight transfer to manage. The on track behavior that you're describing applies to any car and pretty typical of how a FWD car operates - you're understeering, and then when you lift off the gas all the weight transfers to the front and away from the rear - leaving the rear with no grip - and it oversteers. No load on the tire = no grip. Either way, Dave is a good driver on track and he'd have no problem with FWD/AWD. - PDenbigh - 09-20-2005 Buy this. It would def. be a fixer upper though. - CaptainHenreh - 09-20-2005 Mike Wrote:you're silly or just don't know people with DSMs Well, I've owned a DSM, and I owned a 240, admittedly not an SR. The only problem I ever had with my Talon was a crank pulley seperation, which was pretty easy to fix (once I got the fenderwell off). The 240, IMHO, was alot more difficult to work on, enginewise. I'd buy another AWD DSM in a heartbeat if I had the cash for a decent one. They're not fantastic track cars, sure, but they are hands down oen of the most enjoyable multipurpose cars ever created. It's the Bob the Builder of sport compacts. Can we autocross? Yes we can! Can we run on track? Yes we can! Can we drive back and forth to work every day...in the snow?!? Yes we can! You get the picture. |
