Back when I tracked my WRX, it was going through rotors a little quicker than I would have liked. So I got talked into buying a set of very expensive rotors from DBA that had all kinds of cutting edge garbage like pillar-venting (even before brembo used it) and supposedly used much better metals than typical junk metal commodity rotors. But unfortunately, I couldnt get them as "blank" rotors. They only came slotted. I even asked if I could pay a little more money for them to simply not stick them on a cutter. But no dice. Of course they assured me all would be well, I could beat the hell out of the brakes, there are enduro subies in europe and austrailia running them etc etc. 3 track days later (less than 2 weekends) ![]() all the way through ![]() the reason we occasionally see high end GT cars with slotted rotors is because they are already running 14"+ rotors with lots of cooling, and thus have plenty of thermal capacity to spare. They can use the slots for tuning pedal feel and pad bite. - white_2kgt - 06-16-2005 just don't buy the rotors .RJ and John C use, ![]() --chad - .RJ - 06-16-2005 Rex4life Wrote:and please do not think less of me as a person. We'll let this one slide.... just once
- Rex4life - 06-17-2005 .RJ Wrote:Rex4life Wrote:and please do not think less of me as a person. thank you kind sir. but, does anyone know why porsche, ferrari, and motorcycles ever used/use them? - .RJ - 06-17-2005 Porsche - they claim it imrpoves wet braking performance. Ferrari.... just for the bling, I'm afraid. Ferrari challenge racers would trash a set of rotors in one weekend, I believe they successfully lobbied SF to let them use solid or slotted rotors for the race cars. Motorcycles use them for unsprung weight - many of them use stainless steel rotors - they are lighter but the heat transfer properties and thermal capacity is not nearly as good as iron... but when you've only got 400 lbs to stop, its ok
