Do not even think about the Mercedes or Audi if she's looking for something that will hold up well for the long haul.
If she has her heart set on either of those, lease them. There are some pretty good lease terms available for the C-class and A4. If your mom still can't be sway, at least get a CPO car so that you'll have a few extra years of coverage for when stuff goes wrong. After a few warranty repairs it'll become clear what you're in for. You will lose a good deal of money on resale value though.
A 328 will probably hold up better than the Benz or Audi but I wouldn't expect to take it out to 100k and beyond without any significant out of pocket repairs or maintenance.

Every new platform is supposed to be better than the one that replaced it.
What really happens is, they're all just too new for the problems to reveal themselves. Then different shit breaks.

This. Last summer when I was looking at options, I really wanted AWD because I just moved to an area with a fair amount of elevation changes. Ended up with the RWD IS 350 and I can't really complain. Although it comes with summer tires (or at least the F-Sport does), really I only ever had trouble once, and that was getting up my snow covered driveway (which is roughly a 45 degree angle). Even then, I just turned off traction control, spun the tires, and made it up. I've driven through mild/moderate NJ snow with ease, just gotta take proper precautions as you would in any car. I didn't think about the hump in the AWD models, although I guess that would make sense to allow space for the transfer case.

Does the 2016+ AWD IS300 have this "hump"? Looks like that's 40k, she'll get the additional 3-4 years out of it instead of a used one, and has almost the HP of the GT. I too would echo that the Toyota's going to be most likely to make 200k miles with the least trouble.

I mentioned the IS300 and she hasnt had a chance to look at one yet, but shes out driving a bunch of cars today. As far as the AWD and its necessity shes basically decided on what you guys have mentioned, that it would probably be useful once here and there. I keep trying to push the Lexus as the reliable choice as its the most sensible for the situation. My dad and I do all the work on our cars and once you start getting into the German market it seems like they over engineer stuff to add unnecessary work for repairs.
The advice and insight is great and thank you all! Shes still up in the air but ill post pictures of whatever she gets which could be anything at this point.

Soooooooo, somehow she chose none of the above haha.
She went a drove the Audi at the local Audi/VW/Mazda dealership and noticed a really well priced Mazda on the lot which they dropped even more off. So now out of nowhere we own a 2016 Mazda 3 S Grand Touring, I haven't had a chance to see it but it only has 1800 miles and she wanted a car before Monday so that she wouldn't have to deal with the broken Pontiac. The dealership also gave her a certified pre-owned warranty for 7 yrs or 100k miles. Apparently its a rare combo of a pearl white with black interior and red stitching, who would've known?
