Not worth the drive time in my opinion.JPolen01 Wrote:I wouldn't waste your time going back to the dealer. If they knew about the repairs and didn't disclose it then what makes you think they will open up about it now? The airbag show should have a timestamp on it which would prove that it did not happen under my ownership. Also the body panels not lining up is my main issue, not so much the repaint. 4-5 hours for an entire buy back sounds worth it in my opinion.. Seems pretty fancy for it to track time and date of such a thing. It actually only tracks when the wiper fluid light comes on, only thing that's important honestly Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Re: Found out my car was in an accident.. - Jake - 03-27-2017 Senor_Taylor Wrote:GTBrandon Wrote:The airbag show should have a timestamp on it which would prove that it did not happen under my ownership. Every system in the car has some form of "ECU" module, and yeah, you can see exactly when the codes were stored. This has been a thing back to the E36 - my buddy Austin pulled codes from every module in the car when I bought the white one and we traced a lot of its history that way. I wonder how the clock is controlled. Does that mean there's a battery somewhere running it? Does that mean some day those batteries in the ecu will die and the car can no longer record codes properly? Re: Found out my car was in an accident.. - Jake - 03-27-2017 It's probably all stored in some form of non-volatile memory, hence why you can disconnect the car battery and the codes will still be there (aka why you can't clear your CEL with a battery disconnect). But then the clock wouldn't run. There has to be a continuous power supply running to it for the clock to tick. Found out my car was in an accident.. - ViPER1313 - 03-27-2017 I would bet most ECUs have a battery in them just like the motherboard in a laptop/desktop computer. The DSM does... and that was made in 1990. Re: Found out my car was in an accident.. - JPolen01 - 07-18-2017 So when the dealer bought this back, what did you buy as its replacement? Never ended up having the time to drive 2 hours just to argue with a dealership known to do things like this per Sterling BMW. Might still look into it before too much time elaspes but more than likely I'll just enjoy the car as nothing is terribly wrong with it and it will still get me to class and work everyday. Guess there's always a reason something looks like a good deal |
