Yeah I have a feeling a lot of these are going to start hitting the market soon, with very low miles. It's definitely in the running as a replacement for the //R but I just cannot get around the fact that the trunk is laughably small. Like, I can't even fit my carry-on approved luggage in the trunk small. One of my rules has always been if I can't fit a bag of golf clubs in the back it's a huge drawback. I believe you can just fit a golf bag in the back of the coupes, but then you don't get the awesome of the convertible and I think the coupes are still a little more expensive (newer).
Maybe I've been in the south too long but when I saw pics of the new Raptor I got a massive car boner. Lots of decisions to make in a few years!!

I think this is it right here. I'm kind of in a catch-22 situation right now whenever I think of my next automotive moves (whenever that might be) - I want a nice, primarily street driven w/ the comforts that entails, "project" car (as in, something I can make mine, hence why I personally wouldn't just buy a used exotic for my money but rather something I can spend part of the budget on modding/building). I think I would have enough fun with street driving, C&C, auto-x, etc, but this would end up being a car that would be too nice/personally valuable to risk wadding up on track, and I do have some desire to explore doing HPDE etc. events again. I wouldn't want to find out I'm bored after all that effort and expenditure, having a car that I'd be afraid to really explore the limits of. So the answer is perhaps two cars, but that is a lot of $, time, care & feeding, not to mention needing space for everything.

I think the common issues with Ferraris, Lambos, etc are what have been mentioned already. Too much concern over resale value and high maintenance costs that come with piling too many miles on 'em for me.

May I interest you in a 10 year old Ford that meets your demands and has never been worth less than MSRP?

Ford GT's were selling for under MSRP at the end of their run but now they're so expensive you might as well buy something more modern outright. Why pay $300k for that car when you could buy something like a 675LT, Speciale, or GT3RS, all of which will be worth more than you paid for the foreseeable future.

The only advantage the Ford has is that service would be cheaper, but you're getting a 10 year old car vs a new one. You'd still have the golden steering wheel effect and you could still get something way faster around the track for the money and have some leftover for another street car. Hell, you could buy a Superformance GT40 replica to bomb around in and a GT350 and a GT350R and have money left over for your Raptor tow vehicle.

Golfbag not fitting would be a huge letdown but I guess I can just roll by myself and buckle up the clubs

In all seriousness, so long as the convertible can fit a small duffle bag for overnight or weekend visits, I'm cool with it. we have Toni's Mazda 3 for anything else.

My wife has gotten better following my expert packing skills but man I don't think I could ever get her to fit everything she brings on trips in a duffel bag...or two...

There's always this option for the bespoke Jag enthusiast:

I'm pretty skeptical all that fits in a 7 cu ft trunk though haha

Or the Moynat version for the you so fancy rich person:

Solid point, Toni can't pack consciously for shit. Whatever - i'll make it work lol.

Uhh yeah, they need a picture and a detailed "how to" on getting that shit in there - they must mean coupe only, and even then...

Nah. Nothing "modern" does it for me.

Why not buy one car that can do both?

You could, but I wouldn't.

Yeah if the GT is your dream car have at it, but you were replying to Jake. For Jake, why spend the same amount of money for something 10 years old when you could get something brand-spanking new that is lighter, faster, rarer and has zero miles?

For the reason stated before. Unless you're filthy rich, you're simply not going to drive a supercar balls out because of the risk of damage. If you're buying that Ford GT because of its stellar resale value you are going to totally ruin it if you hit something with it. Now if you're the guy buying that car to drive it like its ancestors would've wanted and don't care abou the consequences then that's different.

If you're someone who doesn't care to blast around the racetrack with the car and would rather own the GT then yeah. But the point is that most people would simply be gunshy about pushing that sort of car, especially with the resale value being what it is.

Re: Supercars are Dumb - Evan - 05-22-2015

Here is the thing.
Supercars are not for us.
They arent for the track, and they arent for hooning.

They are like Lee's watches. A status symbol to show off your wealth, style, and status (on a larger scale, obviously) with just barely enough utility as to maintain plausible deniability that they arent pure jewelry.

Its almost cruel that it just so happens they also are perfect objects of lust for car guys like us.

There were tons of them for sale under 100k during the Great Recession™ circa 2008. Cheapest I saw was 80k.
I shopped them good, and wanted one so bad it hurt, but I bought my Lotus for a proportionally similar good deal and hoped the GT would continue going down in price.
Alas.

Sad

Man I wish I had the balls and the foresight to take advantage of one of those crazy deals during that time.

Honestly I don't think that's a good deal. For $150k you can get a MP4-12C with 30k miles that is 2 years newer (and is faster and easier to live with). Maybe at $100k it'd be a deal.

The other cool thing about the MP4-12C is that for $5k, you can give it a tune that adds 100hp, makes it way faster than the 650S, and is six figures cheaper all together.

Re: Supercars are Dumb - G.Irish - 05-24-2015

Ah I totally forgot about that article. I think it's totally hilarious that this guy is advocating spending $45k to make a 12c look like a 650S. I mean if you never plan on reselling more power to you but that really effs up the resale value of even regular cars. "Yeah it's technically a C6 but I liked the C7 front end better so I put this kit on it... I'll sell it to you for $10k off the price of a new C7, that's a steal right???"

But 100 more HP for $5000 is a steal. I don't think 12C prices are gonna drop that much when the 570S goes on sale but they're still a great deal if that's your thing. Especially considering the ridiculous price gouging on stuff like the 991 GT3.
