Re: Zach Gordon - President (WALL OF TEXT) - Jake - 04-15-2015 Senor_Taylor Wrote:Having stuff on Friday is difficult. Most people want to drink and dry hump on Friday nights. We *did* do that last year, I think on a Thursday or Friday, and it didn't work out too well. The only people that came were the freshmen I knew personally. People who are seriously interested would certainly come out for a 6 PM cookout, no? Run something from 6 to 9/10 and let those who want to get shitfaced later, get shitfaced later. Re: Zach Gordon - President (WALL OF TEXT) - Senor_Taylor - 04-15-2015 The Kline's meet on Thursday or Friday after class is good for that. Re: Zach Gordon - President (WALL OF TEXT) - Gordonovski - 04-15-2015 We could easily get the area by the basketball courts in the village to have a cookout and then drive from R1 to get Kline's. Offer food to get freshmen out and then riding in cars to get ice cream. Also helps being out in the open like that - tons of people walk through that area and wonder what's going on. Re: Zach Gordon - President (WALL OF TEXT) - Sully - 04-16-2015 Just to throw this out there. One of my favorite parts about the first parking deck meet (which lincoln dragged me to btw) was that it was around cars. I'm a car guy and I had just bought a busted project car two days before leaving for jmu freshman year. It wasn't fun not being anywhere near any type of car for the first couple weeks I was at school so it was cool to see a bunch of cars and people who liked them in the same place. Might not be for everyone but what I'm saying is I think a first meeting around the cars is helpful and then it could move elsewhere where the food and mingling is the focus. Also, the first meeting, we went to klines, which was the first time I had been off campus so that was also a big deal to me and I thought it was cool some stranger was letting me ride in his, i believe it was a sti (david longquest) to get ice cream. I know it's been mentioned in previous years, and may have also even been done more lately but I think maybe two or three of the meetings a semester could be done in a parking deck or a lot with a post dinner or ice cream trip. The classroom can be helpful sometimes but I think the car meets can be nice. With some of the other ideas being tossed around, it may not be necessary but just something to think about. Re: Zach Gordon - President (WALL OF TEXT) - Jake - 04-16-2015 ^^ I like that, Matt. Why not have the meetings in a parking lot when the weather is nice? Not like you need the classroom necessarily anyway. Re: Zach Gordon - President (WALL OF TEXT) - Gordonovski - 04-16-2015 The only reason I was thinking about possibly doing it somewhere besides the parking deck (just at least for the first meeting) was due to all the sorority girls crowding up the area because of recruitment or whatever. I was thinking meet in R1 and have the car hangout bit, then move to the basketball courts to get some food, then ride to Kline's. Keeps all the previous elements, we just aren't meeting in the garage that week. This idea is definitely scrap-able if people really want to meet in the garage that first time. ninja edit: just remembered there are grills at the courtyard near Shorts. We could park in the garage then walk over there. I just think food is a good way to entice people to come out. Re: Zach Gordon - President (WALL OF TEXT) - Sully - 04-16-2015 I'm not saying it needs to be in a deck. I'm just saying, keep the cars involved for the first part of whatever you do |
