Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - JPolen01 - 08-13-2013 If I come for the day Sunday, will I have to pay some kind of entrance fee because of drift nirvana? Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - FlaakCM - 08-14-2013 I am trying to talk myself into coming. I am *supposed* to get my car back from the shop tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the drifters will be gonig through the new gate by shenandoah Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - D_Eclipse9916 - 08-19-2013 Pics soon, but I had a great weekend despite a big setback. #186 is down for the count, I was playing around in a rain race that I was bored with and ended up with the consequences. Pics soon. That said, however, it was an awesome weekend. Race #1 on Saturday. My previous GTS2 record at Summit was a 1.21.103. I was on mid-life BFG R1S and the stiffest competition was not there that weekend. We had a porsche that was way underprepped and an E36 M3 new to the guy. I thought I would putt around a bit and try to do some testing. So I played with the shocks a bit before the race. Unlike usual races, GTS2 got paired with GTS3/4/5/U for the start. I worked my way through a couple gts4 and 3 cars and got to one gts3 car that was top 3 of gts3. The car felt great, he was at least 3-4 seconds off 1/2nd place so I started messing around with him. The car was warmed up and feeling loose but fast. Turn in was amazing, and exit speed was by far increased. Usually I bounce off real quick the rev limiter at 7200rpm in 4th gear before turn 5 and between turn 9 and 10. Just real quick right before braking for the next turn. This time I was bouncing off the rev limiter before I even hit the curve around 4 and was hitting the rev limiter just 10-20 feet past the bridge between 9-10. My fastest ever through the chute was 118mph, but just briefly before braking at turn 5. This means I was doing ~118mph all the way from early apex of 4 to turn 5's braking point. I was also running out of third gear before wrapping the car completely around turn 7 (usually shift to 4th between 7-8). All this translated to a much faster lap time. I nailed down a 1:20.629, amost a full .5 second beyond my previous track record. Then, in the fun race, I was battling it out with Chris Cobetto's AI (piggy that cant handle, but awesome driver) mustang, and John Huebners e46 m3 GTS3 car, (~380rwhp, and ~290rwhp respectively against my 209rwhp). This meant I had to REALLY work it in the corners, and using some draft of their cars out of the corners before they drove away on the straights. During this battle I managed 5 laps beneath a 1:21, with a best of a 1:20.430. Definitely helps to have rabbits to chase! The car was fast but loose. The next day it rained for the race and my main competition dropped out with the Porsche staying in. I went out on rains at the last minute (I was expecting it to clear up), but unfortunately on my dry suspension setup. The car was nasty loose, but I kept it on track, only to see my only other GTS2 car porsche spin off into turn 3. I ran a couple more laps but got bored quickly being alone so I started playing around. Throwing the car real sideways and just some dumb antics. Well, it bit me hard as I came around turn 10, I hit a flatspot and the car went from 5-10 degrees to a quick 45 degrees. My steering rack is limited, meaning I didnt nearly have enough steering angle to catch it. I maneuvered the car around during the spin trying to keep it on track backwards, but momentum + rain had their way and eventually the car hit the wet grass. I had slowed the car significantly to around 20mph. It hit the grass, was all over and the car spun right round to the front and nailed the front left and slapped the left rear quarter. I luckily didn't black out once I hit the barrier and killed the engine before she even came to a stop. Quick diagnosis when I got home = engine started up, fired and ran just fine, just a coolant hose popped off to the radiator. Hood, left front fender, core support, and splitter all damaged beyond repair. Front bumper, one small crack, not structural means a good spare bumper, canards are still good (now have survived three crashes, two on jims, one on mine). Frame rails are bent to the right-side only in front of shock towers, so a quick jot on a frame alignment machine hopefully means it'll be good. Mike D'Amico's alpine white front end should be a quick throw on. Just need to find an alpine white hood, and decide if I want to use my spare bumper and fender, or just get all freshy parts. Lesson learned: Don't be stupid. Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - JustinG - 08-19-2013 Porsche guy was bragging about his Sunday win on Facebook. I was like lol wut. Then a friend of the driver commented saying he dominated his competition by 2 laps. I lulzd Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - navin - 08-19-2013 SCREENSHOT! I thought I was having a bad week (clutch is done-zo), but glad was glad to see the DJ giving the thumbs up when he was in the car. Even though I only got 2 sessions in I still had a great time at the track, Group 3 is tits. I think I clocked off at a 1:29 according to GoPro video (probably slower, inaccurate) -- but it was my first session with tire pressures wrong, and after an anxiety :vomit: Now to fix this hooptie. ps. thanks for anyone who helped push the car up on the trailer, and whoever brought the Budweiser's... they helped drown the sorrow. Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - CaptainHenreh - 08-19-2013 DJ, you can never let him win again. Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - ScottyB - 08-19-2013 lol, what a douche. the great equalizer when your superior competition is parked in the grass. Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - Sully - 08-19-2013 I need car number and description. That prick isn't coming on my grid ever again. Yes, DJ may own the track but that Grid is mine and I have a strict anti-douche policy. You know, like past normal race car driver levels. He issssss a Porsche driver :p. funny enough, the black flag earlier in that race was because he spun off track and got stuck in the sand pit in turn 3. Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - Jake - 08-20-2013 Glad you're okay, DJ. That crash looked far worse as it happened, compared to what's actually damaged. I took a few photos so here's part of the carnage: Frame rail (this is the worse of the two): ![]() Motor mounts look like this: ![]() The schnozz: ![]() Tell me when it's time to spin wrenches and we'll rebuild her. Just popped in my head. Thanks, Yeah I laughed at what safety equipment I had to replace and realized my belts were already expiring at the end of this year. Kaan, What say you about selling those belts to HPDE/street guys? The passenger side is probably fine, but I worry about the driver's side. Ill just sell em to some stance guy if they arent good enough for HPDE  Jake/everyone that wanted to help with either the race car or the LS1, I am working on both all wednesday after work. Would like to strip down the front end of the race car, and the LS1 just has tons of stuff to get done  Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - Evan - 08-20-2013 JustinG Wrote: porsche racer AND road cyclist racer? thats a perfect storm of douche. is this the same guy? http://www.peakscoachinggroup.com/bios/hallenabout.aspx Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - Mike - 08-20-2013 so... he was the only finisher? this can't be for real. Re: August 17-18th Summit Point - Summer Breeze - JustinG - 08-20-2013 Pretty sure there were only 3 GTS2 cars. DJ, Him, and the third guy pitted like 10-15min in to the race. |
