Don't ask for donations Garrett. That sounds cheesy.

Re: VIR July 19-21 - ispoonwithmugen - 07-22-2013

How is that cheesy? I don't want to charge people for my photos but I still want to make money. Also I wasn't an "official" photographer so I don't even know if I can charge prices regardless.

Re: VIR July 19-21 - navin - 07-22-2013

I have no clue how charging for pictures at NASA event work, but man the Finish Line Prod guy has an eff'n monopoly if he's the only one allowed to sell pictures from NASA events.

I wouldn't have a problem tossing Garrett money for some pictures, it would be kind of nice to get some new perspectives for on track pics. (not trying to bash Finish Line, but it's alot of same stuff).

Actually...on 2nd thought, I wouldn't pay Garret in cash... just 4lokos.

Re: VIR July 19-21 - ispoonwithmugen - 07-22-2013

4Lokos work as well. I'm not trying to make a fortune off of these. What does he charge for them? I realize that he has a huge monopoly going on with that.

Looks like a really great event.

Bummer I couldn't make it, I was...busy.

Ha, he speaks the truth. I had a great time and the car ran most of it. The cooling issue is fixed, finally. Ran full length sessions at full tilt and it never got above 200 degrees.

ECU overheated a couple of times and went into thermal protection, thus shutting down the car. Whoops. Melted the solenoid innards of the starter too, which made starting it an adventure.

Great to see everyone. Looking forward to the next one.

Peter

nasa sells the vendor rights to sell pictures *at* the event itself, but you are free to sell your photos afterwards, over the internet, etc.
and FWIW, I think asking for donations is a perfectly acceptable way for a hobbyist photographer to get a little compensation.

Yeah Jon is just salty. I asked for donations and the Lamborghini guy took the photos and gave me some moniezzz. I know it's corny but can some of you guys pass around my page on facebook? facebook.com/garretthughesphotography just so I can get more exposure to the NASA guys. I don't want to post on the forums quite yet (just because that was my first weekend and I don't want to start getting on people's bad sides).

Re: VIR July 19-21 - JPolen01 - 07-23-2013

I'm not salty. I just think asking for donations makes you look cheesy. If you said each picture costs X I think that looks a little better from a business standpoint.

Re: VIR July 19-21 - ispoonwithmugen - 07-23-2013

I'm a photographer (novice one at best) that has never sold photos to anyone. I think it's perfect to ask for donations (which seems to be working anyway) than sell each picture. I'll gladly sell prints of them but that's something completely different. Photography is a very unique field. Plus I'm really trying to get my name out there right now before I charge X for pictures.
