That's a 675R no? I really like those, but for the prices I've seen I'd just get another CBR1000RR. Most I've seen for sale used are in the $10500 range.

I think I'm narrowing down to the RSV4, CBR1000RR, or CBR500R. I figure with one of the Hondas I can do a project series of posts for Temple of VTEC. The RSV4 for jimmy rustlin.

Or a 6th gen VFR, and the TOV project series can be about a motorcycle w/ VTEC

Nice G! Congrats!

dang, that is a sweet looking bike.

Re: So now what? (what to buy) - PDenbigh - 05-08-2013

Sorta has a bat-mo-bike look from that picture. In a good way.

Re: So now what? (what to buy) - Kaan - 05-09-2013

you brought it home in the truck? whhhaaaaa? did they quit giving temp tags at the dealers or something?

So now what? (what to buy) - G.Irish - 05-09-2013

Yeah I picked it up in MD cause that's the only dealer with the matte black.

I'm actually lucky I did because there was an accident on 70 that had the highway closde for 4 hours. We got the tail end of it, but apparently some Harley's on a group ride hit each other and a guy and his fiancée died. They had just had a child too =(. Even worse was that it was his dad that hit them.

that thing looks evil. well done!

Rode her in to work today. First big difference with the Duc, the Ape is a LOT quieter. I miss the deafening boom of the 1199. The V4 sounds good, especially when it gets moving and the exhaust valve opens up (they've got a valve in there to cut down on noise at low rpm). I think may have to buy an exhaust sooner than later tho, even if only a slip on. I'm thinking Akrapovic like I had on my CBR but I could probably go with the Leovince too.

There are a lot of settings to play with so I'll need to read through the manual again. 8 levels of traction control, 3 levels of ABS, and 3 different fuel maps. The power delivery feels a little bit soft down low, it feels more tame than the Panigale. But it might just be because there's a lot less noise and vibration.

Ergonomically it's similar to the 1199, not as comfy as the CBR was. The seat is more comfortable than the 1199. The Ape seat has more padding and better contours. The turn signal is awkward tho. Seems like it's made for someone with a 7 inch long thumb.

Gotta break it in for 600 miles so gotta stay under 8500 rpm. Can't wait to hear that melodius V4 soundtrack at WFO.

Very cool!

The bike. Not the harley guy killing his own son.

and not that "exhaust valve" either. Remove please.

Resurrecting an old thread because I think theres some good input to be had in this forum (especially interested to hear from G).

I was involved in a motorcycle accident yesterday, commuting home from work. I'm okay, just a little banged up - no broken bones or major injuries. I wasn't at-fault in the accident, and a police “incident report” was filed. Basically some idiot cut across a median to exit Rt. 50 onto Gallows Rd. while I was on the exit and ran me down side ways. The guy was only issued a “failure to pay attention” ticket. Anyways, I’m sure the bike is going to be totaled.

I was riding a mint 04 Honda RC51 Nicky Hayden edition. I really enjoyed that bike, but I’m looking to get some thing different this time around.

I’m considering:
-2012-14 Ducati 1199
-Ducati 899
-09+ Honda CBR1000rr
-Aprilia RSV4
-BMW S1000rr
-Kawasaki ZX-10r

ABS and traction control are two features I’d like to have on my next bike

I’ve never ridden most of the bikes on this list, and its hard to speculate based on what you read on the interwebs that’s written by a bunch of strangers, so if anyone has any input or any other ideas on other bikes to consider please chime in.

Oh my god please get a white 899 so I can touch it.

Re: So now what? (what to buy) - Tyler.M - 04-30-2015

Fz9??? So cheap and I hear pretty great commuters too. If not I'd say maybe stay away from Ducs or BMWS since maintenance could be expensive down the road.

Re: So now what? (what to buy) - Jason08 - 04-30-2015

Well I can't stop thinking about the 899 or 1199. I'm going to go check out an 1199 tomorrow. All of the other bikes seem more practical i.e. more comfortable for commuting, cheaper to maintain, less temperamental, etc......but the 1199 is one of the sexiest machines I've ever seen
