My current couches (ikea) are getting a viking funeral when I move.... its been a losing battle against dog hair for the past 3 years.
When you have kids or dogs most things become disposable. I've given up on my living room rug and just buy a new one on overstock once a year, for example. I guess when the kids and dogs go away you can get nice furniture again, at least until you sell everything off and retire to the beach. Circle of life.

Please do. We didn't have bullshit furniture when I was growing up and we never destroyed it. We also don't let shoes on in the house or eating away from the dining room table.
I've never had a dog, but I don't understand why people let them on their furniture. I had friends growing up that didn't let their dog furniture, so it's possible. On my bed? Fuck that noise. Cats are only allowed on the couch and we keep a blanket to catch the hair.
Boundaries are a helluva thing.

We are also a no shoe - no pet household. Works wonders to keeping stuff in good shape. We had golden retrievers growing up and my dad is a Persian rug (handmade stuff not the cheap chinese machinemade shit) and antique dealer and we managed to keep everything pretty pristine with regular cleaning. We definitely did not let the dogs up on any furniture or in any bed. There's no way an animal is ever sharing the same bed as me...feel free to voice your opinion otherwise but it's downright vulgar imo

I let my dog on the couch and my bed but that's cool if you don't want to. I understand it either way. As long as you keep them inside the majority of their life. What's the point in having a dog if you keep it outside unless of course it's a work dog and only a work dog

Vulgar seems like a strong word to describe pets in bed. Either way I'm actually no pets in the bedroom at all. I got a kitten and for the first week or two I allowed him in the room until he became friends with the other cat. Now that they're cool neither of them are allowed in. I just don't like everything covered in hair nor do i keep the room cat proofed.

You'll probably make a corollary between dog feet that go outside and shoes that go outside and then on the couch/bed, and you're right, its the same goddamn thing but we allow it because dogs are fuzzy and cute so :dunno:
We have some pieces of furniture the dogs are very much not allowed on and they mostly follow the rule. We also have the couches covered with blankets and wash them every week. If we didnt want to do any extra work we wouldnt have dogs, so no big deal.

Dog not allowed on furniture. Shoes off at the door. Kid eats at the table, and she does not have any thing to drink other than water up stairs where it is carpeted.
Also, if you do carpet anywhere in the house and have a kid or pet, upgrade your carpet to include the moisture barrier. Liquids soak up no problem with a paper towel, and cannot get into the pad.
