My insurance shot up from ~$650 for 2 drivers/3 cars to $920 when I switched the E36 to an E92. Gotta do some shopping once I get through all this moving nonsense; but I don't consider it egregious all considering.

Y'all old people doing a lot better than me. $430 a month for the truck, miata, trailer, and renters insurance *points gun to head*. 100/300 coverage. Got love being single, male, and under 25. Have a perfectly clean driving record too *knocks on wood*.

$430 a month? PHACK. Though I guess everything you owns is basically less than 5 years old.

I thought the under 25 thing made a difference, so I called usaa after my 25th birthday to get my rates reduced. Nope. No difference. I'd get different quotes and shop around.

All full coverage for all vehicles? Goddamn that's expensive... Nfw I'd be spending $5k/yr on insurance. Not even when I had a sport bike, car, and truck while being in my mid 20s.

Whoa that is savagery.  Definitely time to shop around

Dude.  That's almost what I pay in homeowners for the year.  I pay $750 a year in car insurance for 1 vehicle.  And that's a smidge on the high side. But I wanted the discount in homeowners insurance.

RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Jake - 03-28-2018

FOUR HUNDRED THIRTY A MONTH??

Jesus.

I have my trailer and racecar insured through Lockton for about $300 a year ($25/mo). Renters' insurance cost me something insignificant but that policy is paid in full each year. It might be $200 total? The F150 with full coverage and pretty high limits/coverage/whatever (need to look at my policy, just came in yesterday) is about $100 a month. I need to email my dude at Erie and see if they have an additional discount for driver safety tech.

I've shopped around and I've found it even more expensive elsewhere lol

Wait, I am dumb. It's what happens when you are trying to multi-task. Insurance company payment plan is laid out weird and I read it wrong. $220 a month. That feels much better. I was reading what was left on the term in the next two months lol

RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 03-28-2018

The area you live in makes a big difference too. Rates are high here in SC because no car inspections are needed, high amounts of hail storms and people are terrible drivers in NC/SC

RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - Apoc - 03-28-2018

We pay $1150/6mo for three cars, but insurance in WA is pretty expensive.

GTI: $430
F31: $460
911: $260

I just looked up esurance and it would be $810 for BMW+GTI (vs. $890), but they won't cover the 911 because it's too old. I've looked at places like Haggerty for it, but Geico is actually cheaper even though I've specified the replacement cost as $50,000. Maybe this is a first world problem, but I'm not sure it's worth it to have two different insurance companies, especially since I'd lose multicar discount on the 911.

Has anyone used esurance's drive track app with success? It's like the ODB2 modules some carriers have, but they use the accelerometer on your phone over 50 trips. Our household only drives 7000 miles a year, so I'm thinking this might actually help.

edit: looks like Geico ended their ODB2 option

Oh man. GTI and 4runner are $300 a month. Can't wait to get the 4runner off of there.

Haven't yet, but it's $9 off a month, so I'll give it a try. Just lose the discount right? They can't charge you more based on driving style, right?

I read a review of Progressives snapshot. The guy said he was discounted like 11%, but his base rate went up 10% at the same time. Many factors go into base rate, but it's pretty coincidental.

I just double checked Haggerty. Part of the problem is their deductible options are 0, 1000, 1500, 2500, and 5000.

At 0, it's the same price as Geico. Going to $1000, it only saves me $40/year.

Soooo... if you're still reading... switching to esurance and moving the 911 to Haggerty saves me $160/year. I guess that's not nothing.

RE: Car insurance rates and metaphorical sodomy - WRXtranceformed - 03-28-2018

I had Haggerty on the old Mustang and it was fine, for what that anecdote was worth. It wasn't a huge hassle to carry two policies especially if you just pay them both up front
