Install said it would take 20 mins, that's a bit conservative as we were mounting it in a different configuration than most people do. Took us about an hour with some test-fitting to get the positioning right. But wow this thing is quality and it turned out great. 100% worth the money! Color match is spot on.

Before (under the porch awning is wet because I sprayed it with a hose to get the spider webs out):

There's a little lip where the underside fascia sticks out and hits the shade when the wind hits it. I don't think it will damage it in the long run but I may swing by Lowes and get a long thin piece of clear plastic tubing and wrap the lip that juts out just in case. The afternoon sun hasn't even directly hit it yet and it already felt a few degrees cooler under there!

Your HOA approved that?

I heard the guy with the ugly awning is going to report this weird bedsheet hanging from the side of Lee's porch

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - ScottyB - 07-05-2017

i want to hear Lee say "wife, i intend to consume beverages outdoors. deploy the porch shield"

I submitted an ARC request for my trees and had to wait almost 2 months for approval & install. I wasn't going to wait another couple months to install this but we are fine because:
A) We are allowed to install privacy screens
B) Anything attached to the house or any installed out-buildings (ie a shed) just have to match the color scheme of the house or be pre-approved styles/colors (mostly for fencing)
C) You can't see the install from the street at all until we roll it down and use it

This most definitely is not color matched and is pretty clearly visible from the house  I haven't gotten ahold of the separate HOA tenants but they are usually MUCH more strict than the single family homes (ie you can't install anything on the exterior of the home, at all)

This was said, in some variant, yesterday before we had our little neighborhood bbq / party

So uh any update on the poopatrator?

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - ScottyB - 07-06-2017

ha, no. like a true phantom pooper, vanished as soon as he appeared. right before i was going to put a sign out i noticed no new piles so i guess me shuffling the mess into the sidewalk was enough to get the point across. sorry to dissapoint

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Sully - 07-13-2017

Do we have a super official renter's thread?

Fiancé and I just signed a lease on a little two bedroom in our area. I was pretty against it but happy wife... Something something. And apparently I can answer enough questions in my sleep to complete the application.

Wondering about some furniture though. We're going to need a couch and some other things but I guess my main question is the couch.

Did anyone order one sight unseen. She's obsessed with Wayfair. I've never ordered anything from them but I'm worried about shipping and buying furniture without even sitting in it.

She really wants a sectional with like a chaise side part. And she won't even consider used which I know some of you have done. I really wish used and a good steam cleaning was an option but seems to be a no fly zone.

So...Anyone order a couch from online only retailer? Did it work out? Was it that much cheaper? Know any cheap furniture stores?

I've convinced her we need to go check out all the local cheaper stores before we even think of ordering though

You tend to get what you pay for in regards to furniture.

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - JPolen01 - 07-13-2017

I would never buy something like a couch or chair without sitting on it and feeling it in person. Just sounds like a bad idea.

I also don't do used furniture.

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - WRXtranceformed - 07-13-2017

Yeah swing by a Rooms To Go or something along those lines and just sit in a bunch of stuff. We have bought a lot of stuff from there that has turned out to last a really long time and stay high quality. I just sold the leather couches I had from there for pretty near what we paid for them. Our current sectional was by a vast margin the highest quality / lowest cost option we found out there.

I have learned that some people pay absolute crack pipe prices for furniture

Same! Had to buy furniture for this apartment and I strolled into a furniture store closeout sale cause they were shutting down and the cheapest thing was a $200 end table the size of my palm. Fuck that noise. Craigslist all day.

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Sully - 07-13-2017

I agree and would think furniture is one of those things you invest in. The problem is the ultimate goal is to buy a house cause neither of us like apartment living. But the couch that fits in our 1,000 sqft apartment is probably going to need to be replaced when we get a house. Hopefully in the next two years.

The company lovesac has a really cool modular couch that you can add pieces to and create like the ultimate couch over time but it's so pricey. Think the basic loveseat is like 2k and I'd still have to go up to Nova to sit in one. Other than that though, it seems like this may be a semi short term purchase.

You are right, don't buy super nice stuff especially if your sig other is particular about furniture. When you buy a house its pretty likely none of the big stuff is gonna work for her.

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - JPolen01 - 07-13-2017

Don't waste your time with lovesac. It's so expensive. My brother in law and sister in law have one in their basement and it's not even that comfortable. I do want one of their beanbag chairs but I'm not spending $800 on one.

Re: The Super Official Homeowners Thread - Sully - 07-13-2017

They have the couch or the bean bag?

Yea I just looked at them again and I don't think I really care for the look. I found some other companies that do similar things anyways. But I ran it past her and she wants to order some $400 sectional in the shape she wants cause it has a ton of high reviews. Reviews aren't always helpful. Everyone's perspective is different. If you go from sitting on the floor to a $400 couch, you're probably thinking it feels like the best couch you've ever sat in

They have a small couch. Only fits 2 people.

IKEA, make the trip, furnish your townhouse for $5

JustinG Wrote:IKEA, make the trip, furnish your townhouse for $5

Yeah, this. We have dogs, so ikea furniture it is. For your rental place, consider it disposable and upgrade later when you buy a house you want to live in for a long time. But a lot of the ikea stuff is really nice, too and looks good.
