Yeah those look surprisingly good even at stock height.

RE: The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - SlimKlim - 05-21-2018

I do really like how the fronts are just a showcase for the brake calipers.

RE: The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - WRXtranceformed - 05-23-2018

Solid use of the ole bonus!

RE: The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - Sijray21 - 05-23-2018

saw the green gti with wheels in-person yesterday. looks really nice.

RE: The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - Goodspeed - 05-23-2018

Those look so, so much better than the stockers. Nice work! Curious to read your reporting over the life of those Contis, too.

The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - JPolen01 - 05-23-2018

Any plans to address the wheel gap?

RE: The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - SlimKlim - 05-24-2018

Thanks Guys!

Polen, I dunno if you're just screwing with me at this point but no, I've been pretty adamant about not messing with the ride height because the approach angle of my driveway is really severe, I have to use a ramp to get the BMW and other low cars in and out without fucking them up, but the stock clearance on the GTI gives me about 1/2" of wiggle room so I can just slam it up in there without worrying about it at the end of the day.

APR tunes are 15% off....

The Itty Bitty NOVA VW Committee - JPolen01 - 05-24-2018

Have I asked that before? I've never been to your house, I don't know your driveway!

Crossed over 6000 miles. Took it to the dealer to get some things addressed.

Very loud clacking noise from engine on cold start. No idea what it is, dealer says it's not a big deal, but it honestly makes my car sound like a piece of shit, so I'm not happy about it. They ordered me a new speaker because one of mine is already blown and rattling. They can't reproduce my clutch squeak or the issue with my led map lights flickering. The material on the shift knob is also wearing away quickly and causing light irritation in my hand.

These cars have plastic oil pans with single use oil plugs (WHY?) so I bought a new plug so I can't change my oil at some point. Other than those issues, the car has been fantastic. I honestly can't think of a better daily driver for me. Stupid fast from 30-90 so it is perfect for Nova Traffic. I've driven to South Boston, JMU, Maryland, back home, VIR, Summit, Virginia Beach and all over in it without issue. I've carried 5 people in it with no problem and shoved large loads in the back with the seats folded down. The seats are the only seats I've ever been able to drive more than 2 hours in before my back hurts and the clutch is so light that I never have knee pain when driving, which is also a first. The headlights are amazing, the shifter feels good, the brakes and diff make it a dream to drive. It has all of the features I want/need and consistently makes me smile with all of the turbo woosh noises it makes with my blow off adapter.

Do I have a desire to mod it? No. Am I a VW fanboi now? No. Do I love GTIs with all of my heart now? Probably not.

Is this car the best car for me right now? Absolutely. Still happy with my purchase. Finalizing paperwork today to refinance with my bank, and I'll soon be submitting the forms to get a nice check from VW for cancelling my wheel and tire protection plan.

the threads probably have to be super soft to keep from stripping the plastic pan out. or "because German", honestly. whats the oil change interval on these?

glad you're enjoying it. great cars.

10k or annually.

The internet gets in a tizzy if you say you're going longer than 5k, but that's not supported by data.

VW recommended 10k. I ran a bunch of oil samples in the first few years and 7k-ish was the maximum recommended by testing. Doing it every 5k isn't hard and isn't too expensive and IMO has more benefits vs pitfalls. The oil changes in these vws are so easy to do. The plastic plug is a lot easier to use after changing oil in our mk7 vs my mk6 (no threads to screw up); 1/4 turn plastic plug > threaded bolt/washer.

Aren't the MkVII supposed to be nicer on oil than the MkVI?

i would assume so, being a newer design. i know the mid-gen mkvi refresh (late '12 to '13) changed a few things including an oil-pressure-driven timing chain tensioner that was an issue for the earlier ea888 motors (gtis and tiguans 2012 and older). Doing oil changes on the mkvii is easy enough that i really don't mind doing it every 5k just to be sure (works out to be about 2 times a year). I'm sure running it to 10k isn't a huge deal, but i've been paranoid with what i've read about for timing chain tensioner failures on cars of my generation. Plus the oil filter location is so nice compared to other cars i've owned that i almost feel obligated to do it myself and every 5k for the long-term reassurance.

Didn't you get the memo? You aren't supposed to keep cars long enough for any of this to matter!

I had mine changed at one year, but it was 2500 miles, and the dealer acted like I was crazy. Dude... it says annual. I'm not changing my oil every four years.
